to think that vomitting into a carrier bag in the middle of a cafe is not on, even if it is 'just morning sickness'

Was in a cafe this lunch time with my parents and my DD, a lady came in with three other adults and a toddler and sat at one of the tables, they were about halfway through their lunch when the lady took a carrier bag out of her handbag, vomitted into it, tied a knot in it and put it under her chair next to some shopping bags. She then loudly talked to her fellow diners about it just being morning sickness and picked at her remaining food.

Don't get me wrong, I remember the morning sickness days well, it's a horrible feeling, I don't miss it, BUT this was a cafe, other people are eating and there was a well-signed toilet a few metres from her table - did she really need to do that?

Fortunately it wasn't a carrier bag with holes........

YABU I wouldn't have made it to the toilet with the MS I had with DS1, I had to be in arms reach of a plastic bag at all time, there was no warning it just came up, sometimes as I was walking along before I could even get a bag out of my pocket! it was all day for about 14 weeks so at some point I had to leave the sofa and my bucket from time to time!

but YANBU because she just popped it under the table?? I'ld have taken it outside to a litter bin straight away!

Mines not been so bad this time, it started to ease up a little at 16 weeks but I still get it occasionally. Like today.

With ds3 it was like sea sickness. I spent most of the pg laying on the sofa

Mintyy · 12/10/2012 20:52

P M S L at "no opportunity to avoid cafe"

halloweeneyqueeney · 12/10/2012 20:53

Rule britania it is well accepted that the term "morning sickness" does not apply exclusively to morning time, it is the term used for pregnancy sickness and mine was morning till night!

lucky you if yours was reassuringly regular! that doesn't mean the rest of us can do anything about it if ours isn't so convenient

scottishmummy · 12/10/2012 20:54

I worked throughout pg
when needed to eat I had to use cafes, couldn't gallop home
did external meetings, in cafe as other participants wanted to eat too

chibi · 12/10/2012 20:54

i empathise with anyone who has had morning sickness, especially hg but

i'm sorry, but, having a job = not having the luxury of avoiding cafes

oh my sides

this transcends the concept of first world problems

imagine being so unfortunate, so beset by woes as to be unable to avoid cafes

Cafes are not places where you have to go. If she had vommed next to me or in cafe while I was there I would of barfed my guts up what a disgusting person.

I had terrible morning sickness with one of mine, to the point I would heave so hard I would piss myself on the school run. Never vommed in a cafe though and would jump off the bus before I would barf on that. (was a close call a few times but I did it)

Floggingmolly · 12/10/2012 20:54

How is avoiding cafes not an option, scottishmummy?
They're totally non essential Hmm. If there's a chance you'll put other diners off their food by puking in front of them, stay out! Of all the things to think you have a God given right to...

nkf · 12/10/2012 20:55

I know. And "excluded" from pate and ice cream. It's not even first world. It's like other world. MN world maybe.

ya gotta eat when you can, especially if you have been having bad MS, she obviously thought she'ld be up to it otherwise she wouldn't have wasted her money on the food if she KNEW she would just throw it up!

perhaps she was unable to pack a lunch as it was worse in the morning, there were times when I couldn't even walk into my kitchen as I knew there was food in there and just thinking that made me sick

nkf · 12/10/2012 20:58

Maybe - and I am trying very hard to see how it might not disgust some people - if you are so constantly sick, you become innured to it and think it's normal and forget that nobody wants to see and hear you do it, particularly when they are eating.

HoneyDragon · 12/10/2012 20:58

My work were brilliant when I had HG. I moved nearer the bathroom, when I didn't make it I was near enough our meeting room to wheel my chair, vomit in a bag and return to my call.

I would immediately dispose of bag in the large bins outside.

It was a grim time. One colleague was phobic and appreciated my going behind the door. But when I wasn't hospitalised and on a drip I was in work.

I personally think that vomiting noticeably and obviously into a bag and then not being seen to dispose of it is awful Sad

expatinscotland · 12/10/2012 20:59

Eeewww. I used to carry around a bag when I was pregnant with DD1. On Thanksgiving Day, my first in the UK, I was feeling grim but just had to go to McDonald's for my lunch break. I ate, then tried to make it to a litter bin, but wound up having to barf in my bag in the West End of Prince's Street.

Two auld besoms tutted as they walked past, 'Imagine that! Drunk in the afternoon!' I opened my mouth to justify myself, but only barfed more.

scottishmummy · 12/10/2012 21:00

god you're hard of thinking.let me explain
I worked, got invited to met people external venue.usually food orientated
can't discuss confidential business on park bench.are you familiar with uk weather drench, cold. so cafe and/or restaurant was venue of choice

nkf · 12/10/2012 21:01

Yes, but you didn't vomit at the table did you? And carry on eating? That would be one strange business meeting.

nkf · 12/10/2012 21:02

I can imagine the thread: Am I being unreasonable not to give the contract to a woman who threw up in a bag, put it under the table and carried on with her lunch?

TunipTheVegemal · 12/10/2012 21:03

I think possibly a few of the people on this thread don't realise that for some people 'morning' sickness lasts all day, all through the pregnancy.

scottishmummy · 12/10/2012 21:04

keep up I've answered that I refer you to previous posts

nkf · 12/10/2012 21:04

I understand that. That's easy. I don't understand vomitting into a bag, putting it under the table and finishing your lunch. I'm sorry but I don't. It is totally outside my experience and I can't imagine why anyone would do it.

Inneedofbrandy · 12/10/2012 21:05

Having a chain reaction of vomit is not unusual either. I imagine the owner wouldn't be happy with everyone else barfing on the floor.

This scenario being described is my worst nightmare. I can take shit, piss, animal shit, mouldy food even spiders over someone vomming where I can see/hear/smell
