to think that vomitting into a carrier bag in the middle of a cafe is not on, even if it is 'just morning sickness'

Was in a cafe this lunch time with my parents and my DD, a lady came in with three other adults and a toddler and sat at one of the tables, they were about halfway through their lunch when the lady took a carrier bag out of her handbag, vomitted into it, tied a knot in it and put it under her chair next to some shopping bags. She then loudly talked to her fellow diners about it just being morning sickness and picked at her remaining food.

Don't get me wrong, I remember the morning sickness days well, it's a horrible feeling, I don't miss it, BUT this was a cafe, other people are eating and there was a well-signed toilet a few metres from her table - did she really need to do that?

Fortunately it wasn't a carrier bag with holes........

It's just so rude to do that when other people are eating- vomiting is noisy and smelly. Totally not on in a cafe.

pointyfangs · 12/10/2012 19:42

There's a difference between mustering the self-control to get the bag out to use it and managing the movement of getting up and walking - even two steps under those circumstances might be too much as motion affects the inner ear and could well be the final straw.

Personally I'd have got up, gone outside and found a bin for the bag of vomit, but having been there I can see why she acted as she did for the first part of it.

Keeping the bag and carrying on eating is just disgusting.

TheDetective · 12/10/2012 19:42

If you don't know how someone who has just thrown up can eat again when they have pregnancy sickness, why not go and google hyperemesis.

And it isn't just bile. What makes you think it would just be bile??

Honestly I hope some of you suffer the utter utter whiteness of hyperemesis. Then I don't think you'd be as damn quick to judge.

BeyondLimitsOfTheLivingDead · 12/10/2012 19:43

Could she walk? My back used to completely freeze with sciatica...

Trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, but it prob would have made me sick too.....

TheDetective · 12/10/2012 19:43

Shiteness grrrrr

Figgygal · 12/10/2012 19:43

Never had any morning sickness so I shouldn't judge.......but will anyway Grin

That is grim!!

storminabuttercup · 12/10/2012 19:43

I had horrid hg, but wouldn't have done this, you are sick you move it you dont save it for later!

BeyondLimitsOfTheLivingDead · 12/10/2012 19:44

Eating after- i threw up the whole of a meal I very much enjoyed in a restaurant in the toilet went back and ate dessert Grin

YouMayLogOut · 12/10/2012 19:44

This is so disgusting and rude, it's hard to believe it's real!

TherapeuticVino · 12/10/2012 19:44

That's grim. I had HG and the puking is not controllable, but she should have disposed of the bag. If you'd seen someone grab for a bag, throw up and then take themselves off to the loo you wouldn't have been posting here because that's just unlucky, but keeping the bag.....ew.

filetheflightoffancy · 12/10/2012 19:45

She sounds like a bit of an attention seeking twat to be honest. Ok fair enough, if you cannot make it to the toilet in time, although the fact that she didnt even try is Hmm but to then leave the bag of vomit under the table whilst people have to carry on eating is just disgusting. She is probably one of these 'I am a pregnant lady, the world must revolve around meeeeee' types. Judge away.

And I say this as someone who suffered from horrible 'morning' sickness and once vomited all over myself and the steering wheel whilst I was driving.

scottishmummy · 12/10/2012 19:47

oh get you with the dr crane analysis.got frasier box set have we
how can you possibly even try justify that comment
nope you're just sounding off

Pourquoimoi · 12/10/2012 19:48

I had bad morning sickness and was hospitalised and on a drip for part if my last pregnancy due to it. I threw up in he car whilst driving even, that was pleasant!!!

I still think it's disgusting. You don't go somewhere people are eating if you know you are likely to be sick. It's not fair on anyone.

And to leave a bag of sick under the table is gross. So unacceptable.

TheDetective, can't believe you think it's ok and wrong to judge...

nkf · 12/10/2012 19:51

Totally, totally disgusting. How anyone could carry on eating after that!

scottishmummy · 12/10/2012 19:51

I hurled when folk eating had no control.was mortified
couldn't not go cafe in case vomited or I'd never have gone anywhere pg
it's not the boaking it's the not disposing of appropriately that's the deal here

VinegarTits · 12/10/2012 19:51

oh christ how vile

nkf · 12/10/2012 19:52

If you can't control your vomitting, stay out of restaurants. Oh, dear, I have chronic diarhhoea. Look it's running down my leg. Not to worry. Can I have a latte please?

TheDetective · 12/10/2012 19:52

I can't believe you can be so judgemental about another person!

Walk a mile in their shoes I say!

You do know that eating is sometimes the only way to stop the sickness at times? So why would you not go somewhere to eat????

nkf · 12/10/2012 19:54

I'm not walking an inch in that woman's shoes. Probably full of vomit.

nkf · 12/10/2012 19:54

And you wouldn't go somewhere to eat because you might vomit and make other people feel sick too.

Annunziata · 12/10/2012 19:55

But you would really leave the bag on the floor thedetective?

Besides, clearly everyone around this woman heard/ saw her throwing up and was put off by her if she had to explain herself.

scottishmummy · 12/10/2012 19:57

stay out if restaurants if prone sickness?it's not that easy if you feel sick 24-7
I had a supply of sturdy bags suitable for fluids, sick
and I had hand gel and I was discreet and disposed of appropriately when I hurled

Alitoomanykids · 12/10/2012 19:58

As a three times sufferer of severe HG I am utterly amazed that she even attempted to go to a cafe... not exactly an essential outing. The fact that she had bags to chuck up into suggests that she was expecting this to happen so she is not exactly caught off guard. The fact that she didn't bother to go to the loo is just inconsiderate for other, and stashing the puke under the table, eeeyeuw. Yup, severe morning sickness is hellish.. but come on! YANBU! If you know you are going to chuck up, keep it to yourself and keep the socialising for when you feel better... in my case when the baby arrives!

SauvignonBlanche · 12/10/2012 19:59

Eww, how gross!

nkf · 12/10/2012 20:00

Well, I don't suffer morning sickness as I am not pregnant and I manage not to go to restaurants and cafes. So I am sure if I was prone to vomitting, it would be just as eas. Why do you need to eat out? I don't get it.

Sorry, you say, I'm so unwell right now and restaurants aren't a good place for me. Can we meet somewhere else?
