to think that vomitting into a carrier bag in the middle of a cafe is not on, even if it is 'just morning sickness'

Was in a cafe this lunch time with my parents and my DD, a lady came in with three other adults and a toddler and sat at one of the tables, they were about halfway through their lunch when the lady took a carrier bag out of her handbag, vomitted into it, tied a knot in it and put it under her chair next to some shopping bags. She then loudly talked to her fellow diners about it just being morning sickness and picked at her remaining food.

Don't get me wrong, I remember the morning sickness days well, it's a horrible feeling, I don't miss it, BUT this was a cafe, other people are eating and there was a well-signed toilet a few metres from her table - did she really need to do that?

Fortunately it wasn't a carrier bag with holes........

And how can you be "excluded" from pate. It's just a meat paste that doctors recommend pregnant women avoid.

OhDeerHauntingFENTON · 12/10/2012 20:33

so you are excluded from the eating of it Confused - or are you splitting hairs?

TidyGOLDDancer · 12/10/2012 20:33

I wouldn't want to confine pregnant women from cafes, but I would like to ban them from storing vomit under their chairs. I doubt anyone can say anything that would make me think I'm unreasonable in that view.

whiteandyelloworchid · 12/10/2012 20:34

oh op take it youve never suffered with hyperemesis then?

i have and its a killer, good job the lady was gettign out i say, have some compassion

scottishmummy · 12/10/2012 20:35

I travelled around to appts pg,had to go cafes.I went out socially too
was ill 24-7 couldn't have avoided cafes.had to eat,sit if tired,get lunch
and why the hell should I be excluded,I had a life and job pg didn't have luxury of not going out or avoiding cafes etc

crashdoll · 12/10/2012 20:35

Oh FGS, pregnant women aren't a hugely oppressed group nor are they excluded from eating/drinking anything.

Just don't keep vomit bags in eateries and if you're having a really pukey day, perhaps avoid food establishments for a short period of time.

Tuttutitlookslikerain · 12/10/2012 20:36

I was confined to the house when I was pregnant because I couldn't walk. Strangely enough, other than a bit of boredom and cabin fever I suffered no ill effects!

And as nfk said, no one is saying stay on, don't go out, just don't go into a cafe if you are prone to puking at the table, because everyone else in there is eating and a lot of them will think it is pretty bloody gross!

RuleBritannia · 12/10/2012 20:39

So it was a 'lunchtime' meal? It was hardly morning sickness then, was it? My morning sickness was when I first got out of bed and certainly not after about 10.00am.

Moominsarescary · 12/10/2012 20:39

I've had hg in all my pregnancys and was hospitalised because of it with tge first two.

I've thrown up on the school run, had to pull the car over to be sick. However I've never sat there in cafe, thrown up and just carried on. I would rather run outside with my bag to be sick than throw up where others are eating

berri · 12/10/2012 20:40

Since when could pg women not have ice-cream Confused

scottishmummy · 12/10/2012 20:40

what bit of hyperemesis can you folk not get.it can be 24-7.no oppurtunity to avoid cafe etc
it's not an option to avoid cafes if you're working when pg.it's untenable
one should be careful of disposal, and certainly under chair is not cool

nkf · 12/10/2012 20:42

Anybody with the ability to throw up, put her vomit filled bag under a chair and finish off her meal is is no need of compassion. That is one tough lady.

pointyfangs · 12/10/2012 20:42

RuleBrittania you do know that pregnancy-related sickness does not confine itself to mornings in everyone, don't you? I was 'lucky' enough to have it every waking moment for the first 20 weeks. Both times. This is not abnormal - and I did not even have hyperemesis, I was just really intensely nauseous all the time. I'd have confessed to anything if someone had told me it would stop if I did.

So please remove the judgey pants, ok?

crashdoll · 12/10/2012 20:42

I'm sure there are some people who cannot possibly avoid cafes and work all the time without any breaks HOWEVER popping into a cafe for a casual spot of lunch when you know you're going to vom everywhere is a bit gross.

Moominsarescary · 12/10/2012 20:43

rule my morning sickness lasted all day and night.

However the hg was so bad I wouldn't have been able to go into a cafe

OhDeerHauntingFENTON · 12/10/2012 20:43

RuleBritannia - morning sickness can occur the whole live-long-day actually - if yours ceased at 10am consider yourself lucky Wink

nkf · 12/10/2012 20:43

It's easy to avoid cafes. I walk past dozens of them every day. I don't go in. Why are they difficult to avoid? Is there some sort of addiction I've never heard of?

scottishmummy · 12/10/2012 20:44

oh so seeing you never hurled after 10am no one use should britannia
clearly you don't understand
and can only see things your way

nkf · 12/10/2012 20:45

Are people going to get competive about their vomitting now? Hurling is a sport I know but this is a bit weird.

Tuttutitlookslikerain · 12/10/2012 20:46

"clearly you don't understand
and can only see things your way"

Oh, the irony Scottishmummy!

Moominsarescary · 12/10/2012 20:47

Well I'm being sick right now nkf so I win!

Glittertwins · 12/10/2012 20:48

I wasn't even able to walk 100m with HG. My episode in pub was around 16 weeks of being housebound - I thought this should be over by now!

OhDeerHauntingFENTON · 12/10/2012 20:48

Jelly babies were the only thing to stop me hurling, - not ginger, jelly babies.

True.

I watched Madagascar over and over with DS1 when pg with DS2 - cannot get through opening titles now without feeling a leeetle bit queasy Grin

Glittertwins · 12/10/2012 20:48

Competitiveness over ;-)

Mintyy · 12/10/2012 20:50

Utterly disgusting and big fat roffle at the people attempting to defend it. I have nothing but sympathy for hyperemesis sufferers but, honestly, does anyone other than TheDetective think its fine to vomit in front of other people eating in a cafe??
