To be gutted about Jimmy Savile

mrsrosieb · 07/10/2012 12:42

I have just watched Jimmy being interviewed by Louis Theroux on YouTube. He seemed childlike and lonely.
I grew up watching this guy and thought he was some sort of saint-raising £40M for charities. I cannot believe what I am reading in the press and I really hope it is not true.

So if because you know this particular woman and what you know she has done in the past makes you feel she is lying why do you doubt a heck of a lot that was said by other victims and those who worked/knew him

DreamsTurnToGoldDust · 07/10/2012 13:46

I dunno Rosa but you have made me feel very uncomfortable about your posts, you want to discredit a woman who has said JS abused her, you hint that she has done something unforgivable, you know her so well and have been by her side since she was a young girl, she is now in her fifties? You could just have a personal vendetta against her, I don't know.

I do believe the woman though, absolutely.

On the bbc yesterday they were discussing the reporting of this and the rep said the women were abused by js. He said it is now important that they get the help they need. There was no doubt or alleged used it was fact.

MrsjREwing · 07/10/2012 13:55

Rosa I am sorry you were harmed by a damaged victim of js.

antlerqueen · 07/10/2012 14:08

Rosa, bad things don't just happen to good people.

Leena49 · 07/10/2012 14:15

I just think about the time he was chatting to my daughter in the park and it creeps me out.
So glad that when we were student nurses my friend told him to shut up! I cringed at the time but glad now.

HeadfirstForHalos · 07/10/2012 14:19

Didn't quite a few of his victims have dubious pasts? I thought that was why he chose them, so that if they said anything their pasts could be used to discredit what they say.

Just because someone hasn't had a perfect past, that doesn't mean they can't be abused.

To all of the victims, "alleged" or otherwise, I believe you.

Jinsei · 07/10/2012 14:24

Rosa, I don't think you can claim to "know" whether this person was abused or not...unless you were actually there when it supposedly happened. Whatever this person has or hasn't done in her life proves nothing. And shame on you for suggesting that it does.

WildWorld2004 · 07/10/2012 14:29

IMO js only did charity work so that he was seen as a 'saint' meaning he could do what he wanted.

I always thought there something odd about him.

Tailtwister · 07/10/2012 14:49

I always thought it was common knowledge he had an unhealthy interest in young girls. I remember my Dad commenting on it and not wanting me to apply to Jim'll Fix It.

I does seem to be part of a much larger problem though. Various women have been coming out with stories about other male celebrities who it seems, thought it ok to abuse young girls and women.

AnOldieButNotSoGoody · 07/10/2012 14:52

I agree tail in the back of my mind I thought I always knew this?

I've never liked him. He always creeped me out.

clam · 07/10/2012 15:11

Let me get this right, you're "gutted" about Jimmy Saville because it has punctured some rose-tinted image you had of him in the 70s.

How about being gutted that some creepy pervert used his fame and power to abuse under-age girls for years and get away with it? And that those girls are living with the fall-out decades on?

MrsjREwing · 07/10/2012 15:15

It would seem from Rosa js victims may have taken out on others what was done to them.

YouOldSlag · 07/10/2012 15:36

clam- exactly.

mrsrosieb · 07/10/2012 15:38

Just found the Exposure documentary on catch-up TV.

Going to watch that and see if I change my mind on him...

God I hope it does OP, the evidence is overwhelming. Stop thinking of Jim'll Fix It and start thinking of the poor women (young girls) he abused and who were too cowed by fear and afraid to come forward when he was alive.

dopishe · 07/10/2012 15:59

I don't blame you for being gutted-that's understandable-however, you still have to accept that it is entirely possible that he was an abuser. But, yes, it's natural that you feel gutted.

Fakebook · 07/10/2012 16:44

I loved watching Jim'll Fix It. I didn't really care for jimmy savile as I grew up. Whenever I saw him on tv I used to feel sick at his appearance, because let's admit, he didn't ever look like a clean person with that hair and choice of clothes. Anyway, I was quite sad when he died. What pissed me off on his death was his gold casket and the vigil that was held with his coffin lying in state. Apparently, he had asked for all of this to happen on his funeral. This is how much importance he held for himself. I felt sick that someone could think so highly of himself.

Since all these revelations, I still feel sick. This man did all these horrible things because he thought he was untouchable. I feel so sick for the victims and their families.

Apparently he was also linked to the jersey care home abuse too, but nothing came about of that. I think we're going to find out a lot of shit about this demon in human form. If there is an afterlife, I hope he pays.

mrsrosieb · 07/10/2012 16:54

Just crying now. The evidence is overwhelming. Hope an independent investigation is launched into the BBC for protecting him.

clam · 07/10/2012 17:44

I vaguely recall one year my mother commenting on the fact that the London Marathon coverage (BBC???) totally blanked the fact that he was in it. In previous years they'd been all over him like a rash. She surmised that it was because of some rumours circulating.

mrsminerva · 07/10/2012 18:33

clam your Mum is pretty smart reading between the lines like that. Impressed.

mrsrosieb · 07/10/2012 18:59

The press seem to be rounding on John Peel now.

I hope to God he is innocent-I was one of his best fans.

Getting a bit concerned that my fave TV/radio stars are paedos-clearly I have bad taste.

OP posts:
monkeysbignuts · 07/10/2012 19:07

I feel sorry for the victims, I have no sympathy for the predator. He must be guilty as the evidence is mounting and the accounts very similar.

MrsjREwing · 07/10/2012 19:30
