To be gutted about Jimmy Savile

mrsrosieb · 07/10/2012 12:42

I have just watched Jimmy being interviewed by Louis Theroux on YouTube. He seemed childlike and lonely.
I grew up watching this guy and thought he was some sort of saint-raising £40M for charities. I cannot believe what I am reading in the press and I really hope it is not true.

gordy- I believe them all too.

I want to say to them "I believe you".

McHappyPants2012 · 07/10/2012 13:19

It was in 2007, someone did come forward but there wasn't enough evidence and some how to media didn't get the info till after he died

cantspel · 07/10/2012 13:19

a woman's past should never be used to judge whether or not this sort of allegation is true. Her case should be judged on its merits and the very fact she has a bad past could be a direct result of what JS did to her

A case like this is bound to dredge up a few attention seekers jumping on the band wagon and I agree that one of the women in the Exposure programme seemed a little, errrr, keen to be 100% reliable but the similarities in the other stories were very very convincing. I'd rather give someone a little attention by saying that I believe them than dismiss them all out of hand.

I believe you.

YouOldSlag · 07/10/2012 13:21

This is an extract from an article by his biographer.

Jimmy recounted in the book that the girl came in to the Locarno that night and it was ?agreed that I hand her over if she could stay at the dance, come home with me, and that I would promise to see her when they let her out?.
At 11.30 the next morning she was willingly presented to the female police officer, with Jimmy adding that she ?was dissuaded from bringing charges against me by her colleagues, for it was well-known that were I to go I would probably take half the station with me?.

AnyaKnowIt · 07/10/2012 13:22

Guys I am talikng about ONE PERSON , I know I know what she did in the past and lying is what she does best .

So you know her whole life story then?

glastocat · 07/10/2012 13:22

Over forty women have now come forward with allegations. While a few of them are bound to be fantasists, I believe most are telling the truth. Their stories were consistent and believable, and after reading many accounts corroborating events, I think it's a shame the dirty pervert died before he could be tried and jailed.

Rosa, are you her? Grin

AnyaKnowIt · 07/10/2012 13:25

Really, everything?

McHappyPants2012 · 07/10/2012 13:26

Ross, are you confusing a not guilty or not enough evidence with she must of lied.

Many rapist get off, because rape is a hard crime to get a conviction.

GhouliaYelps · 07/10/2012 13:27

So it's the case of the Woman who is raped before or has a history of difficulties; they can't be believed again as they have used up their quota of compassion. "real" Rape and abuse only happens to Women with a nice, conservative past. Hmm

McHappyPants2012 · 07/10/2012 13:27

Rosa sorry not Ross

DreamsTurnToGoldDust · 07/10/2012 13:27

Look, Rosa if you have creditable evidence that this person is what you say, then you need to ring the met police who are leading an investigation into JS. However, that by no way means that all the other people, victims, witnesses and a member of his family are lying. We don't know you so we have no idea whether you genuine tbf.

PerryCombover · 07/10/2012 13:28

rosa
Very often childhood abuse can greatly affect the way a person behaves in adulthood. Please try to consider that before claiming to know whether someone has been abused or not.

As the programme was run by a police investigator and there had been a similar BBC programme made I would doubt that the victims had not been thoroughly investigated.

I find it terribly sad that anyone would claim to know that another person had not been abused. I can't say that for anyone I know - as abuse can be so very hard for the individual to ever discuss or disclose. Sometimes it lives silently inside a person.

DreamsTurnToGoldDust · 07/10/2012 13:29

However, I agree with Ghoulia.

maddening · 07/10/2012 13:30

Rosa - maybe she was like she was because of experiencing abuse as a child?

I agree various forms of abuse can change people, they make bad choices as a result, it can make someone over compliant or to push against authority, it can make someone look irratic too.

RosaMosqueta · 07/10/2012 13:42

Can I make it very clear that Rosa and I are different posters.

And to Rosa - I think you are touching on very dangerous territory which has the potential to hurt the alleged victim very much not to mention discrediting the others who have been afraid to come forward.

whatsforyou · 07/10/2012 13:45

Rosa, I realise when you personally know someone and are aware of a 'dubious' past it is very difficult for you to be able separate that from future events they may (or may not) encounter. Perhaps because we don't personally know this person we are able to objectively look at the situation and can see that, despite what is in a person's past, it is highly unlikely false allegations about this are made, especially when there seem to be so many similarities in the stories.

I haven't seen the documentary being discussed but would find it really hard to believe that the researchers didn't investigate every allegation and the people making them given the huge can of legal worms they would be opening.
