To be gutted about Jimmy Savile

mrsrosieb · 07/10/2012 12:42

I have just watched Jimmy being interviewed by Louis Theroux on YouTube. He seemed childlike and lonely.
I grew up watching this guy and thought he was some sort of saint-raising £40M for charities. I cannot believe what I am reading in the press and I really hope it is not true.

Rosa - You know that how?

Fred West was never found guilty of murder, is he classed as innocent then?

McHappyPants2012 · 07/10/2012 13:06

As I have said on every JS thread.

The victims I BELIVE YOU

manticlimactic · 07/10/2012 13:06

So did all the 'alleged' victims meet up and discuss what happened? Because their recollection of what happened sounded very similar.

There was only one woman who I thought seemed rather too enthusiastic recounting her experience (that's probably the wrong wording, sorry) Rosa - wonder if it's the same woman? The rest sounded wholeheartedly genuine.

dottyspotty2 · 07/10/2012 13:07

aldi it's not about choosing to come forward it's about the right time I reported this time last year nearly 30 years after it stopped wasn't ready before, don't feel bad about it. In this case others where involved in the abuse not just him if their still alive maybe they can be tracked down and brought to justice.

LadyBeagleEyes · 07/10/2012 13:07

Exposure was on ITV, Rosa.
It included the testimony of five different women, all with independent stories and all scarily similar.
Plus all the other women now talking.
Jimmy Savile was a pervert and an abuser.
Not alleged.
Fact.

cantspel · 07/10/2012 13:09

He might be dead so not be able to stand trial but if there has been a culture of procuring and then covering up by those who were closest to him than it is right that it is exposed and someone held to account.

i bet there are alot of high up media types that have not been having the best nights sleep in the last week or so.

marquesas · 07/10/2012 13:09

mrsrosie - I feel exactly the opposite to you, I grew up with JS on the TV every week and always in the news for raising money. I never liked him, always thought there was something odd about him and I suppose felt guilty for not revering him as most people did.

It's no comfort to me of course that this has come out now.

aldiwhore · 07/10/2012 13:09

YouOldSlag I feel for the victims too, my goodness do I! What I think I mean is that it's okay for those who had a precious memory on Jim'll Fix It to still have it as a precious memory... it doesn't mean they have to condone the actions of the private man.

I am a big Arthur C Clarke fan, his writings that is... I love his writing. I am not a big fan of his more dubious private activities.

I LOVED Michael Jackson's music, the public persona, wonderfully whacky... I do not condone any dubious behaviour that created victims.

I adore some of Gary Glitter's tracks... they are STILL good even though the man himself is a immoral pervert.

I do feel for people who were huge fans, who have been let down. Obviously I feel more for the victims, absolutely. I don't think people ABU to voice their disappointment.

If it was my daughter, niece, sister, cousin, aunt or any of my family, then I would be disgusted that they wasn't belived just because of what is on her CV.

Rosa · 07/10/2012 13:10

Sorry I am abroad, the prog was downloaded and sent to me

YouOldSlag · 07/10/2012 13:13

A person interviewed and who testified or talked on that programe is a media attention seeker who cannot be trusted with what she says or does.

and it's attitudes like that that kept JS's image intact during his lifetime. "How could some woman making allegations do such a thing to Jimmy Savile who raises so much for charity and is a loveable rogue off the telly? She must be lying. etc etc." His charity work and public image and connections kept him safe from litigation when he was alive. It made him untouchable. If you ask me, that was no accident.

If the victims were attention seekers why have so many asked to remain anonymous?

GhouliaYelps · 07/10/2012 13:14

Yeah attention seeking. Describing what some revolting old creep did to you as a child, really going to get you some positive attention to lie.

Cause that's what Women do don't they, lie.

marquesas · 07/10/2012 13:14

Rosa - was the person you know one of the first to come forward about the abuse or has she followed others?

If I'm totally honest one of the women on the programme was less convinving than the others, I'm not saying I don't believe her as they've all been through a terrible ordeal and aren't TV naturals but it would be awful if even one dishonest women cast doubt on the truth of all the others.

What media attention, please name me someone who has become rich and famous by being raped!

NotGeoffVader · 07/10/2012 13:16

I've not read the whole of this thread (not having a good day and keep getting distracted) but I remember watching LT interview Saville and I thought S came across as quite manipulative, creepy and strange.

Whether or not the allegations are true is probably something we'll never know, but seeing as JS is long gone, its not likely that there is going to be anything in the way of closure/retribution/compensation. Perhaps had things been taken further when he was still alive, we'd know more.

Unfortunately people in the public eye, or those with the ability to 'charm' others are able to get away with a great deal of behaviour that would be considered unacceptable in other instances.

Hmm Rosa.
Are you the Op BTW (similar name)?

dottyspotty2 · 07/10/2012 13:17

Rosa sorry but that's bollocks how do you know that her past is part of what happened to her as a child/teenager. You do know that many victims go right off the rails don't you as they have little self esteem or self respect.

gordyslovesheep · 07/10/2012 13:18

and the 15 year old girl who killed herself and left behind a diary of the abuse she suffered by a number of DJ's - which was dismissed by police at the time as fantasy?

I believe HER ...I believe them all

DreamsTurnToGoldDust · 07/10/2012 13:18

So not 'fact' , your opinion, very different.

AnyaKnowIt · 07/10/2012 13:18

What I am saying about this particular witness is that what she said cannot be believed due to her past

So what about the rest of the women?
Or the man that has come forward?
What about one of Savilles nephew that has come forward?
What about the people who witness it?
Or what Saville said and wrote himself?

YouOldSlag · 07/10/2012 13:18

aldiwhore, that's fair comment, but my post was aimed at the OP. I still listen to Michael Jackson and try and keep his musical genius separate to my distaste of his private life.

JS I have more trouble with because there was always SOMETHING that made him a bit...maybe not as approachable or likeable as other DJs and TV slebs at the time.

The internet rumours were around for a long long time before he died.
