Watching now. Teenagers being arrested. Parents seem to think that's fine and part of growing up. I cannot believe people like that exist...

i had to laugh peeps i grew up with think im a snob also

but on here i feel bottom of the pile sometimes Grin

PutABellOnMe · 18/09/2012 10:31

The number of people abusing the system is low, Lola, and official government statistics back this up. Excuse us if we'd rather take the word of experts over judgy snobs who are convinced that so-and-so down the road must be faking their disability because I saw them washing their car that one time.

This sort of neglect has always been there throughout history, and always will be. Breaks my heart, though.

The only time we have broken through it was when evacuees were sent from the inner city slums to other parts of the country with wellies and plimsolls on their feet, no toothbrush, and swarming with head lice. That woke people up and consequently we got free secondary schooling and the NHS.

I wonder what it would take now to make a big change?

Honestly?, if you truly think that government statistics are accurate you are deluded, how does it work a survey? 'are you claiming fraudulently ?' 'nope, i am not' the only way you would get an accurate number is if everyone claiming fraudulently was to inform the authority themselves, and how likely does that sound?

i know from 1st hand experience and talking to actual people who have done this, and saying things like ''that so-and-so down the road must be faking their disability because I saw them washing their car that one time.'' to shut up people who ARE aware, is not clever, not funny it just shows quite how little you do know.

LolaThePregnantFlyola · 18/09/2012 10:53

by 1st hand experience i don't mean i myself claiming fraudulently, but i sat with my mum and my sister when i was 14 and listened to every word they said about how she could get this ,that and this now she was pregnant so long as she said this, that and this.

lotsofteddies · 18/09/2012 11:03

Is this the program where a policeman confronts a young man in a red hoodie recieving oral sex from an older lady for a fiver?

I found that policeman's arrogant, smug, unempathetic manner (which he was completely oblivious to) the most shocking thing about the whole program. The way he spoke about that poor woman. As if he was being funny. A complete lack of compassion. From someone who is supposedly educated. The fact we have men like that on our police force upset me more than anything else.

BupcakesandCunting · 18/09/2012 11:12

Lotsofteddies, I don't blame him for being brusque with her. She'd just said they'd all raped her.

TroublesomeEx · 18/09/2012 11:13

Quite.

Kayano · 18/09/2012 11:19

Really? You are more upset by that policeman than the fact a .2 year old was roaming the streets and his mother lied to 999 about when she saw him last?

Or the fact a young girl is doing gcse's on 2 hours sleep because her mum is a selfish alcoholic?

And you are more outraged that he said he hoped that kid hadn't lost his virginity to a £5 prostitute? He did a good job of getting to the bottom of what happened. She cried rape then admitted lying! That's more damaging than him!

Moominsarescary · 18/09/2012 11:19

I'm always surprised how many on mn don't realise that these families exist. It's not how I was bought up but I have lived in areas and worked with people for who this type of parenting is common. It's not a new thing either, there are generations of family's who have all lived and patented like this

Moominsarescary · 18/09/2012 11:21

Parented

BupcakesandCunting · 18/09/2012 11:21

I reckon when you're policing an area like this, you become hardened to it and you might develop a black humour. It's probably the only way you can cope with seeing shite like that day in day out.

LolaThePregnantFlyola · 18/09/2012 11:21

i must say i didn't actually watch the program but did see a clip and i am more shocked at peoples shock, if that makes any sense
it would be lovely if the world was such that this was shocking to everyone because that would mean it was rare.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/09/2012 11:25

Lotsofteddies - would you be empathetic towards the lady if your young children had just seen her having sex with the lad in the hoodie and giving him oral sex? She is known to the police (they said so in the commentary), and I expect the police are probably sick of having to deal with her.

TroublesomeEx · 18/09/2012 11:27

And how old was the boy in the hoodie?

When he reaches adulthood and 'gets it' that memory will haunt him!

BupcakesandCunting · 18/09/2012 11:29

He was 17. And his mates will totes know who he is.

For shame.

TroublesomeEx · 18/09/2012 11:32

Mmm, nice...

BupcakesandCunting · 18/09/2012 11:36

A fiver, though. What a bargain. Especially since he probably got a free portion of crabs with it.

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 18/09/2012 11:45

I didnt see the programme. But a woman who is being prostituted in this way is not a woman with a happy easy life. I find some of the comments here about her disgustinga nd extremely disrespectful.

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 18/09/2012 11:47

And sadly yes I too have knwon families like the ones described. Finding a crawling toddler in the snow at 2am was a particular low point.

BupcakesandCunting · 18/09/2012 11:51

I think we're all aware that she probably has a shit life with drug/drink addiction playing a part in her choices. However, I don't agree with crying rape then promptly admitting that you're lying.

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 18/09/2012 11:53

"A fiver, though. What a bargain. Especially since he probably got a free portion of crabs with it."

You think your comment above showed any understanding or empathy? I think it showed extreme disrespect.
