Sick of the bashing

Where shall I start..... I am sick to death of everyone taking the piss out of 50 Shades books, okay so it's not the best written book in the world but the amount of people who start threads about how they think it's shit is really getting on my nerves. Lets be honest the only reason you people start threads like that is because you know everyone will jump on the bandwagon like a fucking sheep and that makes you feel powerful.

Get a grip....just get a grip.

"The only person I know who has read it (or admits to having read it) says it is badly written abuse porn. Her very words."

As has practically everyon on this thread....

TheGoldenKnid · 17/09/2012 18:06

There are so many good books out there (including erotica), why would you want to read such badly written rubbish?

Jux · 17/09/2012 18:07

But I don't know any of you in RL, and I do know her!

gossipgirl1 · 17/09/2012 18:29

Jux no I dont think its fine for 10 year old girls to read that, why would you think i would think thats okay? and who are you referring to when you say "and i do know her"?

OP posts:
TheQueenOfDiamonds · 17/09/2012 19:25

Ignoring valid points again OP.

I'll repeat, How do you justify the disgusting offence caused to the BDSM community and the gross misrepresentation of mental illness that repeatedly happen in this waste of trees book?

gossipgirl1 · 17/09/2012 19:38

Why bother answering, your not going to like what i say, gunna get rid of this thread now coz ya'll getting my nerves.

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 17/09/2012 19:41

Its just utterly shite. On a simple level, because its badly written bollocks, deserves no where near as much press as its received, is just a bit gross (TAMPON SCENE), is an utterly inaccurate description of BDSM, and uses the same crap phrases over and over and over and...

Oh my.

And then there is all the abuse. Which frankly is enough to put me off anything when its being portrayed as acceptable.

You're not stupid for reading the book. You ARE somewhat stupid for not being able to see the abusive relationship it follows especially after its been explained so many times right here.

Its also a downright shame, as I have read some utterly fantastic erotica, that I can appreciate both for what they are saying, and the way they are saying it - books that are brilliantly written, and should get so much more praise than they do.

This review sums it up perfectly for me.

SirGOLDBoobs · 17/09/2012 19:54

"ya'll getting on my nerves''.

Hmm

Abuse praise tends to get on my nerves.

As does text speak.

SuePurblybilt · 17/09/2012 20:35

I think I'd get on well with the friend. I agree with her, it seems.

Hullygully · 17/09/2012 20:38

I LOVED it

It was Tolstoyan in its reach and scope and depth of exploration into the myriad windings of the mysterious human heart. I wept.

TheTermagantToaster · 17/09/2012 20:54

Can I just say in the book's defence, though, that it did give rise to my favourite EVER totally-unsuitable-for-polite-society quote (from Victoria Cohen's review):

It puts the 'B' into anal :o

TheTermagantToaster · 17/09/2012 20:55

Cohen? Coren.

babyfirefly1980 · 17/09/2012 20:59

Why should anyone be told not to voice an opinion on whatever subject they want?

TheQueenOfDiamonds · 17/09/2012 21:20

Clearly, OPs last response translates into "Because i have no reasonable reply to that perfectly valid question that would not make me look a total idiot"

MinnieBar · 18/09/2012 12:28

I genuinely laughed out loud at 'My inner goddess will cap yours in the face if you don't shut the fuck up'.

I am, however, a total hypocrite as I got a 'let's jump on this bandwagon' book commission as a result of all this malarkey. And I completely ignored my principles and took the money

valiumredhead · 18/09/2012 12:32

Blimey OP, you wouldn't last 2 seconds in my book club if you can't discuss a book without flouncing!

THERhubarb · 18/09/2012 12:40

I haven't seen any bashing but you know what gets on my nerves? The amount of people who have recommended it to me or seem surprised when I say I have neither read it nor intend to.

So why would they think I'd be interested?

Because it's classed as "mummy porn" and I'm a mother.

Seriously.

It's as though once we have children we no longer become intelligent individuals but sad, bored "mummies" who spend our days sipping tea, watching Jeremy Kyle and reading porn.

I am still the person I was before I had children. I wouldn't have read it then and I won't read it now. It was bad enough reading Dan Brown and his trashy novel style. It winds me up because I know a couple of really brilliant writers who struggle to get their stuff published as the general public wouldn't 'get it'. Genuinely talented, creative people who get shunned in favour of trash fiction for all us brainless "mummies".

I re-assert my opinion that any book/song/TV programme or film that is a best seller amongst the general public is usually a crock of shite that does not require the usage of many brain cells.

Clipped - have you read the thread? Do you agree that he is abusive?

Hi Walter, of course he's abusive.

Labootin · 18/09/2012 15:01

The first book is allowed in Dubai ( that may have changed as I haven't seen it on sale in my loca bookshops recently.
the following two are banned (everything here is censored)

I did buy them (in Sainsburys) during a recent trip back home.
the first I found vaguely amusing in an ironic you have to be joking with me that this shit is popular way

I skipped through the second (I'd bought it I'm not wasting money emoticon) and just jaw dropped at crap 3rd FFS no story turns into a copy of Take a Break magazine.

I started to pity the censor tbh.

Jux · 18/09/2012 15:36

TheRhubarb, quite. Annoys me when I'm in a bookshop, and an assistant recommends an R&J book, too. Generally a guarantee it's crap.
