Sick of the bashing

Where shall I start..... I am sick to death of everyone taking the piss out of 50 Shades books, okay so it's not the best written book in the world but the amount of people who start threads about how they think it's shit is really getting on my nerves. Lets be honest the only reason you people start threads like that is because you know everyone will jump on the bandwagon like a fucking sheep and that makes you feel powerful.

Get a grip....just get a grip.

You know, if you type 'What's so bad about...' into google, the first suggestion google makes for completing the sentence is '... about 50 shades of grey'. Grin

OTheHugeManatee · 17/09/2012 10:52

That's easy, Knid. They eat the book and then get on with making little sheep, unencumbered by bitten lips or exploding sexes.

PheasantPlucker · 17/09/2012 10:58

I am currently reading The Red Tent by Anita Diamant.

'Fucking sheep' is mentioned in this book.

HTH

waltermittymissus · 17/09/2012 11:01

She's run off now because people are disagreeing with her!

Abuse isn't lighthearted, nor is the romanticising of it.

TheGoldenKnid · 17/09/2012 11:01

The bandwagon-jumping-fucking sheep eating the books - that's inspired! Grin A novel way of turning a pile of poo into ... more poo.

gossipgirl1 · 17/09/2012 11:12

I haven't ran of btw, people are more than welcome to disagree with me, I don't have to agree with them. That deesn't make me stupid.

seeker · 17/09/2012 11:19

Gossip girl- what do you make of Christian's controlling Ana's behaviour in a non sexual context? The control of what she eats, who she sees, where she goes? His anger when she does anything he doesn't dictate?

Oh, and what do you think about the "baby liking sex already" line?

Kayano · 17/09/2012 11:21

I would say it does if you think that's love tbf

LauraShigihara · 17/09/2012 11:23

I was adamant I wouldn't read it and give any of my money to an abuse-peddlar like the author.

A friend insisted that she bring it over because she thought I wouldn't know if I liked it unless I actually read it.

Then I read Victoria Coren's article in the paper www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/jul/29/victoria-coren-fifty-shades-of-grey

And just for the part where she says
it means that 2.3 million women in Britain alone (and tens of millions elsewhere) are genuinely turned on by the idea of a man who would stand behind you with his winkle in his hand, and introduce it by name.

I could never read it with a straight face now so won't even bother...

valiumredhead · 17/09/2012 11:24

Actually imo it does make you stupid if you like the book, sorry but it does, even more so that people have explained why and you still don't see anything wrong in the book.

McHappyPants2012 · 17/09/2012 11:25

or this "I am not going through that again. Elective caesarian this time"

valiumredhead · 17/09/2012 11:30

Ana says that Mchappy? Oh yes, I found my section a breeze Hmm

gossipgirl1 · 17/09/2012 11:37

Whaever I say all of you re going to shoot me down, so I am not going to bother, back to my original post, I was trying to be sarcastic because if you really don't like it why get so wound up to make a post of, thats the point I was trying to make.Thats why its lighthearted. People have different tastes if that makes me stupid because I enjoyed these books so be it. I really don't care anymore.

OP posts:
McHappyPants2012 · 17/09/2012 11:38

i read it as christian saying it, i may have read it wrong. The line before say

Christian blanches and sups my belly.
"I am not going through that again. Elective caesarian this time"

if i am wrong i stand corrected

McHappyPants2012 · 17/09/2012 11:42

Gossipgirl, i also enjoyed the books. I have gone to read alot as it was an easy read after not picking a book up in over 5 years.

What i hate is women are putting Christian up on a pedal stool as the ultimate man to be with

valiumredhead · 17/09/2012 11:45

if you really don't like it why get so wound up to make a post of

Read the thread, the book tackles really important issues THAT'S why people get wound up and angry. If the book was about decorating and poorly written and incorrect, no one would bat an eyelid - but she writes about really important issues.

CleoSmackYa · 17/09/2012 12:07

Can you still honestly not see the problem OP?

seeker · 17/09/2012 12:23

The op doesn't want to answer difficult questions.

gossipgirl1 · 17/09/2012 12:36

Thank you Mchappypants, I also don't think he is the ultimate guy to be with but that doesnt mean I cant enjoy the books.

OP posts:
valiumredhead · 17/09/2012 12:42

Serious question - if you don't think he is the ultimate guy to be with, what did you enjoy about the books?

seeker · 17/09/2012 12:48

Yep. Dodging difficult questions again. Maybe the friend is right?

gossipgirl1 · 17/09/2012 13:20

I enjoyed the fact that she turned his world upside down. If you read page 204 of the first on you will find that she sets the hard limits as to what she eats and wears. Most importanly I enjoyed the fact that he doesn't carry on with the realtionship until she is 100% comfortable. In fact in the last two they don't even have a submissive relationship. Anna is strong willed and doesnt take crap from him. All his life hes done stuff hes only ever known, then he meets Anna and she changes is world and perspective and she actually changes Him. Now just to be clear I am not sayin that relationships happen like that in real life, but it happens in these books. Fact.

OP posts:
OTheHugeManatee · 17/09/2012 13:25

Fact.

Grin
valiumredhead · 17/09/2012 13:31

These books are shite. Fact Grin

I lost interest when he bought her a new car even though she said no.

WorkedformyParents · 17/09/2012 13:36

McHappyPants stole my argument. I actually thought that bit (when he marks her so she won't show her body and as a punishment for sunbathing topless) was one of the most horrible passages I had read in any book in a long time.
