Not sure what to do really. Do I mind my own business or report her to her health visitor?
An old collegue of mine is feeding her 9 week old baby with baby jars, cereals and rusks, has been since baby was 6 weeks old. Dad said baby was ready. Can't believe this myself.
WWYD? Confused

MYOB

gordyslovesheep · 13/09/2012 21:03

you could talk to HER

Marne · 13/09/2012 21:04

none of you buisness and tbh the health visitor would probably say the same, the 6 month until you wean thing is just a recomendation/guide line, its not against the law.

CoolaSchmoola · 13/09/2012 21:04

If you really feel you have to do something then speak to her - the word report implies telling of tales......

NimpyWindowMash · 13/09/2012 21:04

Advise her of the current guidelines about weaning, eg "Gosh, you are feeding little DC solid food already, I thought it was meant to be 6 months because..."
and then you've done your bit. That will do.

Iggly · 13/09/2012 21:05

Well when your colleague mentions it again, ask her WTF? I would.

thebeesnees79 · 13/09/2012 21:05

oh my god some people are so thick.
not a lot you can do really but that poor baby is going to be ill!!

Sparklyblue · 13/09/2012 21:06

I have spoke to her, when she came through my checkout with all the baby food, I did say maybe it was a bit early, as gut would be immature. I asked if she'd had a word with her health visitor, to get some advice, she said the health visitor didn't need to know.

I would talk to her. Are you SURE this is the case. I would be very surprised a 9 week old could swallow any of that stuff.

Sparklyblue · 13/09/2012 21:07

*spoken

"report" her? FGS

MammaTJisWearingGold · 13/09/2012 21:09

I think baby will tell all, as in rejecting food!!

lovebunny · 13/09/2012 21:09

not so much 'report' as ask the health visitor for support with this?

Sparklyblue · 13/09/2012 21:10

Ok, maybe report is a strong word. I'd just like the health visitor to have a word with her really.
So IABU, i'll keep my beak out then.

MYOB.

It's not advisable, but it's not illegal, at worst misguided.

The baby is unlikely to come to harm, they were often weaned that young in t'olden days. Baby is at increased risk of developing digestive problems and allergies but it's not a given. (eyes my big bro, 38 today, weaned at 6 weeks, 6'2" , built like brick shithouse and picture of health)

Sparklyblue · 13/09/2012 21:10

crosspost lovebunny

If I were her, I'd report you for unsolicited advice, attempting to reduce corporate profits and above all being a thoroughly out of order and ruining my retail experience and hope you were disciplined accordingly

MrsSchadenfreude · 13/09/2012 21:13

I had my babies in Europe and Hipp used to make jars and cereals then, which were "from 9 weeks." Is she/the Dad British?

Willowisp · 13/09/2012 21:17

Yeah, report her. It's not about her, it's about the baby

IMO everyone could benefit from a bit of nose poking. I've just been reading about abandoned 2 yr olds, starved dogs etc. Do you think those people would benefit from a 'cosy chat' ? Of course not. Intervention is needed.

Willowisp · 13/09/2012 21:17

No YANBU

Sparklyblue · 13/09/2012 21:18

Jumping, disciplined, really?
I was worried about the baby, I've already said up thread that report was a strong word.

Tee2072 · 13/09/2012 21:20

There's a big difference, Willow, between an abandoned 2 year old and one who is being weaned at 9 weeks.

One is illegal.

One is a guideline.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 13/09/2012 21:21

When I had my pfb, the health visitor told me to give him baby rice and rusks mixed to a sloppy paste with his milk from 6 weeks old because "he's a big baby so he'll get more hungry". He was under 9lb born so not huge. This was very early in 1991. She even gave me some free sample packets of rice for him Confused

Sparklyblue · 13/09/2012 21:23

Tee, the baby has been weaned from 6 weeks.

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 13/09/2012 21:24

Whatever. It's still not illegal. It's not smart, but it's not illegal.
