To lock our bollard into place?

Someone has parked on our drive for the third time this week - I have no idea who they are as both times they've been there when I come back from the morning school run and gone when I come back from the evening one.

The last owners of our house installed a small bollard that can be pulled up from the ground and padlocked in place. It makes it impossible to get into our out of the drive. I've already left 2 polite notes asking them not to park on our drive. AIBU if I lock the bollard and go out for a few hours?

Are they waiting until you leave the house in the morning parking the car up on your driveway and then when you do out again for the school run later in the afternoon they're coming back to take the car away?? Shock if that's the case.

Lock them in and let them come knocking to get free.

Marking my place too, and astounded at the cheek of some people!

Jacaqueen · 13/09/2012 15:12

There is a lot of parking issues these days.

Yes that is me just marking my place.

I have two primary schools at either end of my road. Over a few weeks i became aware of oil drips on my driveway. Thinking it was my car i put it in the garage but they could find nothing wrong with it so we were puzzled.I came home from work early one day (school run time) and an unknown car was parked up my driveway. Everything clicked into place and I realised this car had been parking on my drive whilst I was at work at school times! Angry
So I pulled in behind blocked it in and went indoors. 15 mins later a lady with 3 kids comes back to the car and starts banging on my door. I managed to pretend I wasn't there for about 20 minutes before she started screaming an banging on my door that she had to take her kid to football and she's gonna send the bill for the wasted lesson to me! Bloody cheek!!! I couldn't keep quiet any longer and opened the door. Went mental and asked her why she kept parking on my drive and she said its because when she gets there she can never find anywhere to park! Not my problem! And I went back indoors! Grin she then phoned the police and they turned up she went into one and she ended up getting herself in trouble for having no tax and insurance! Idiot! Which is why she was parking on my drive so it doesn't get towed! I then gladly moved my car and the nice policeman drove her car off my drive and on to a truck and took it away!! Smile
I just can't believe the cheek of some people!

TakingTheStairs · 13/09/2012 15:17

marking my place shamelessly (a bit like the cheeky parking)

puddeycat - that is insane! Well done for handling it so well. Glad she got her comeuppance.

DontGrumbleGiveAWhistle · 13/09/2012 15:25

Marking place...

sugarice · 13/09/2012 15:25

puddey the absolute brass neck of some people and she got done for no tax and insurance, karma rules again. Grin

Thumbwitch · 13/09/2012 15:29

Ahhh puddeycat - that's poetic, that is! Love it. Grin

Ontheedge - do it!

I hate parking wars. I hate people thinking that they have the right to use your place to park in just because it's there. I also hate being blocked in by people parking across the driveway (dropped kerb and everything), just because "it's school time" and they might have to walk a few metres more (my Dad lives right next to an Infants' school).

CheeseandPickledOnion · 13/09/2012 15:29

Oh excellent! I hope they're mighty pissed off!

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 13/09/2012 15:30

I guess the previous owner may have had the same problem which is why they installed the bollard.

I agree with locking it when you go out in the morning rather than locking them in.

PatsyPlusOne · 13/09/2012 15:31

marking place

Gigondas · 13/09/2012 15:32

Marking place to see what happens - although if lock in morning is there not a risk of parking over drive which is almost as bad.

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 13/09/2012 15:34

I'd be inclined to rent out the space for, maybe, £50 a month. Would be a bargain for someone if you're in the right place.
