To lock our bollard into place?

Someone has parked on our drive for the third time this week - I have no idea who they are as both times they've been there when I come back from the morning school run and gone when I come back from the evening one.

The last owners of our house installed a small bollard that can be pulled up from the ground and padlocked in place. It makes it impossible to get into our out of the drive. I've already left 2 polite notes asking them not to park on our drive. AIBU if I lock the bollard and go out for a few hours?

I would do it, but not go out so I can stay in watch with glee.

Cheeky beggars.

oh alright then but sadly have to go out and do school run in a bit (maybe they'll be waiting when I come in). However I think DD has been very good this week and deserves to have tea at pizza express with her friend Grin

will also leave following note on windscreen

Dear car owner

As you will see, I have blocked my drive way for security reasons during my absence. I will return at about 6pm and if you would like to return to collect your car then I will be happy to open the bollard.

Regards

House owner

good for you!

lisaro · 13/09/2012 14:36

Ignorant twats! You need to park or get someone else to park behind them. And go for a jolly to the park. Or you need to get something bulky out, and if it damages their car them so be it. Or put a tyre down. I've also heard that nails can damage tyres.........Wink

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 13/09/2012 14:36

Well done, how stupid and inconsiderate must you be to park on someone's drive.

Socknickingpixie · 13/09/2012 14:37

Well done op, I can't believe how rude they are, even after having two notes put on their car. Tossers

Sl1nkyMalinki · 13/09/2012 14:38

Shameless place marking!

Well done OP!

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 13/09/2012 14:39

Good for you!

scrablet · 13/09/2012 14:39

Couldn't you just lock them out, rather than in?

PuffPants · 13/09/2012 14:39

On your actual driveway??? Or do you mean on the road but across the entrance to your driveway? I can't believe anyone would park on soeone's driveway - really? Outrageous! Why on earth would you leave a polite note? Don't you own the land in front of your door? Aren't they trespassing?

Ring the police and get it towed away!!!

NB: I once broke down in the street very early in the morning (still dark) and I pushed my car over to the side of the road for safety without realising I had blocked somebody's driveway (because it was dark). I got a taxi to where I was going - it was actually an emergency - and rang the AA to meet me back at the car an hour later. When I got back, it had vanished! The owner of the house whose driveway I had blocked had rung the police who immediately called a tow-truck and my car had been hauled away. All within less than an hour!!! I was back there before 8am - the person in the house didn't even have a bloody car, they were just in a rage that I had parked there!

take note of the reg number in case they do any damage. I will return to this thread later for updates!

blisterpack · 13/09/2012 14:42

Great. Can't wait to find out what happens.

ontheedgeofwhatever · 13/09/2012 14:42

No ON the driveway - good idea about photos etc. will do that

not sure the police can do anything as it on private land so its civil not criminal

anyway off to find my padlock and then to collect dd

I am seriously impressed Grin and hope they are sitting stewing in their car when you return.

(But if they aren't leave the bollard up and wait for them to come and knock)

TheGOLDCunnyFunt · 13/09/2012 14:43

Shamelessly marking my place for 6pm :o

PuffPants · 13/09/2012 14:44

Ooh well done OP. What if the car is still there at 6pm?

They may be planning to come back after that so they don't have to face you. I would change the note to read "When you wish to leave this illegal parking space, please knock on my door and I will remove the bollard."

doorbellringer · 13/09/2012 14:44

Are we taking bets on their excuse? The old owners let me/ I didn't realise this was a driveway/I thought this was my relative who has gone on holiday/I am a rude idiot trying my luck?

skateboarder · 13/09/2012 14:44

Do u know anyone who could move it for you? Garage owner? Tractor owner? Warning; im not entirely sure its legal but i have seen cars moved before. im talking about you dear neighbour
