To think Peaches Geldof should have strapped her baby in?

and also, put the phone down when her baby fell out of his pram!

Have just seen photos of her poor baby tumbling out of his pram onto a pavement. I know the council should have sorted the pavement out, but he wouldnt have fallen out if he was strapped in :(

sorry for The Sun link

Yes, Kayano - I would tie their blankets to where feet and lassoo them over my head when I crossed the road, for a spot of additional baby safety-flouting fun. Yanno, when just not strapping them in wasn't doing it for me anymore.

Unclench.

BonnieBumble · 10/09/2012 10:24

I feel sorry for her. When ds was that age I didn't strap him in as he was laying flat in the pram, the exact same thing happened and I was really upset. Thankfully he was ok and there were no photographers around to record the incident. Hmm

I know she is in the public eye but I really feel that she should be allowed to parent without photographers recording every mishap.

Kayano · 10/09/2012 10:24

She didn't put her phone down though, she adjusted and tucked it into we shoulder and ear and carried
On nattering

worldcitizen · 10/09/2012 10:24

On the phone...so possibly less alert/observant of surroundings...

Pusing pram with one hand, so when it tipped over she didn't have the strength of both hands to control/hold it.

Baby is old enough to wiggle and turn on his own I believe, so I would strap in during stroll.

Both are fine, babies are not made of sugar, but it could have ended differently. One has to admire her for her cool...kept continuing and approaching "the matter" like nothing happened Hmm

I had shopping bags fall, and I was more concerned about the apples rolling out or broken eggs.

But all of this doesn't make her or anyone a bad mother by the way Smile

ErikNorseman · 10/09/2012 10:24

No straps

Kayano · 10/09/2012 10:25

If it was a proper carry cot I obv you wouldn't strap them in but that pushchair has no real sides!

To not use the straps is fucking stupid

modifiedmum · 10/09/2012 10:25

obv she made a mistake but i had a similar pram when archie was that age and found they are very difficiult to push with one hand so i tended to keep hands free on me when out and about to answer calls or wait till i could stop.

arthurfowlersallotment · 10/09/2012 10:26

Oh no, I think Sophie la Giraffe is unconscious Sad

5madthings · 10/09/2012 10:27

well ihavent always strapped mine in when they were little and also maybe she was actually panicking and just kept the phone where it was, the person on the other end of ht ephone may also have been offering reasurance if she had said what had happened.

it looks like the baby fell into the hood of the pushchair/carseat and so wasnt hurt, it could have been a lot worse.

and i agree he could have had the straps on loosely which is something i also do in the pushchair.

as for pushing it with one hand, who doesnt do that? hell i do it all the time, on the phone or holding the hand or scooter of one of my other children.

i do remember having to let go of the pushchair to grab another child who fell off the curb and i just instinctively went to grab him but didnt put the brake on the pushchair and it rolled off towards the road! thankfully my eldest son grabbed the pushchair but in my panic at trying to stop ds4 falling into the road infront of a car i just automatically let go off the pushchair. yes i should have put the brake on but it was in instinctive reaction to grab ds4. these things do happen.

ReindeersGoldenBollocks · 10/09/2012 10:27

I never used the straps when my babes were lying down. She misjudged the situation and it wasn't her finest hour, but really, there are some horrid comments on this thread about her.

She is a first time parent who, given her history has managed to settle down fairly well. The 'she made a mistake let's all jump on her quick' attitude doesn't sit well with me.

I also think that she probably just panicked and would have realised when she got home that staying on the phone wasn't the best idea.

Thank god the press don't follow every new mother - otherwise we would see a plethora of mistakes.

SomersetONeil · 10/09/2012 10:27

She made a mistake. We've all made mistakes.

Prarieflower · 10/09/2012 10:27

Also would never have tumbled over if it was a Nipper 360(which Peaches you can push with one hand) but then the Nipper isn't a fashion accessory.

Yamyoid · 10/09/2012 10:28

I wonder if the photographer saw the hole and knew something like that would happen....[cynical face]
I hope he/she was too far away to help otherwise that would be awful.

thebeesnees79 · 10/09/2012 10:29

fucking idiot is all I can say.
straps are to be used not display purpose only!

Aboutlastnight · 10/09/2012 10:29

It's kind of a rookie mistake.

I'm sure she did put phone down once she realised what happened.

I have had a child catapulted out of buggy and into the road in just the same way.

I am no fan of hers but give the girl a break FFS.

5madthings · 10/09/2012 10:29

tbf in the pics Erik just posted she does look shocked and is not talking on her phone.

Kayano · 10/09/2012 10:29

She didn't
Put the phone down though Hmm

KnockKnockPenny · 10/09/2012 10:29

it i shocking that not one person stopped to help her :( I cant imagine walking past/watching & not helping!

Prarieflower · 10/09/2012 10:30

I have no sympathy re paps taking pics, she practically Tweets pics of said baby daily, these then go on the Mail site ad nauseum.

5madthings · 10/09/2012 10:30

i have a nipper and it has tipped over, tho tbf it wouldnt have in that situation, but has in others. its a bloody good pushchair tho i love it :)

KnockKnockPenny · 10/09/2012 10:31

She didnt put the phone down and he wasnt strapped in! The daily mail pics clearly show this.

OP posts:
5madthings · 10/09/2012 10:31

and yes shocking that no-one stopped to help her and vile of the photographer to just take photos, ffs you go and bloody help or offer to at least. it seems a bit grim to be taking photos when they baby could have been seriously hurt.

porcamiseria · 10/09/2012 10:31

Oh, and I am another that did a short car journey and forgot to strap in bloody car seat

all par for the course with first babies

people just dont like her , simple!!!

Aboutlastnight · 10/09/2012 10:31

I have also:

Not strapped DD2 into her high chair and she managed to tumble out and fracture her collar bone.

Allowed DD1 to shove blue tack up nose not once but three times

Lost DD2 (5) and DD3 (2) in the woods for 15 minutes (DD2 had been stung by nettles and they went off to find a dock leaf.

We all make mistakes as parents. Fortunately we don't have to endure our mistakes plastered all over the newspapers.

diddl · 10/09/2012 10:32

"Pusing pram with one hand, so when it tipped over she didn't have the strength of both hands to control/hold it."

yes that´s the thing, isn´t it-there´s a pic of it tipped & then she lets go & baby falls further!
