... to halve my Pill because I'm a small person?

peachesoncream · 22/08/2012 23:56

I take a daily dose of Cerazette: the Mini Pill. I can't take the combined pill because I have migraines, and I quite like a pill that covers me for 12 hours rather than 3.

I am a little person. I am just over 5 feet tall, and weigh 7st9lb. There are women double my weight with the same pill as me. The GP's dosage is not based on my weight.

Seeing as I am small in stature and low in weight, should I be on the same dosage as someone double by weight?

Am I playing with fire to only take a half or 3/4 of the tablet? Incidentally, getting pregnant would not be the end of the world- maybe a few months earlier than planned, but no catastrophe.

You're not that tiny - I'm only a few pounds heavier than you - I consider myself a perfectly normal adult, and take the normal adult dosage of medications!

I thought it was more that large/heavy women (i.e. those 'double your weight) could have problems with oral contraceptives, so it would be more likely that they need a larger dose rather than you needing a smaller one.

Why do you want to halve it? Are you worried about side-effects or something? If you want to get pregnant, surely it's better to just stop taking it altogether?

What do you mean about being covered for 12 hours vs 3? Both types of pill should give you 24/7 protection as long as you take them correctly Confused.

ReallyTired · 23/08/2012 11:43

Are you getting bad side affects with Cerazette? I hated Cerazette with a passion.

I'm using persona as contraception at the moment. If you want another baby at particular time of year then persona is very good for seeing when you are ovulating. Although it is designed as a contraception, many women use to work out when they are ovulating.

Ephiny · 23/08/2012 11:53

I was wondering too how you'd actually do this. My pills were always tiny, not sure how I could split one up accurately into quarters or even halves!

Seriously, take the dosage specified on the instructions. If you're concerned about the suitability of the pill for you, go and see your GP (your actual GP if your DH is unhelpful!).

You have to take the whole pill. Its based on hormones and the like not weight

Yes it is

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 23/08/2012 12:11
Hmm
Viviennemary · 23/08/2012 12:13

Haven't read the whole thread. But you're being more than unreasonable. They don't give larger people a double dose. Get a grip.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 23/08/2012 12:15

Viviennemary

a) Yes they do, actually (get a grip Wink)

b) don't be so rude

malinois · 23/08/2012 12:18

I'm not sure what has given you the idea that dosage is weight dependent - unless you think that the size of your ovaries (on which progestogen acts) are proportionate to your weight. (Hint: they're not)

namechange88 · 23/08/2012 12:31

Yes, halve your pill now... then you will get pregnant, and end up with a poor, unintelligent summer baby!

nankypeevy · 23/08/2012 12:38

Best laugh I've had in ages.

Got a delightful impression of Arriety licking a pill to control her teeny tiny progesteron levels.

OP, have your baby any time of year you like, I think the chances of it ever being awarded a Nobel Prize are fairly slim.

Good luck to you.

ZacharyQuack · 23/08/2012 12:43
got no reason to live.
Trills · 23/08/2012 12:51

Having recently read Pandora I'm thinking of Anthea Belvedon, who went on and on about being so tiny.

pinkappleby · 23/08/2012 13:07

Actually, when I was on the mini pill I had to take a double dose whilst I was over 11 stone. So I don't think the question is stupid.

Schoolworries · 23/08/2012 13:11

Where you really pink?

I havent been advised of this. Your second poster to say this, im getting concerned.

HeadfirstOverTheHighJump · 23/08/2012 13:18

I thought when you come off the pill you are more fertile? I'm sure I've heard of women struggling to conceive taking the pill for a short while, then come off and it increases their chances of conception?

Well, whether that's true or not taking half a pill is a bit stupid OP and if your GP husband doesn't instantly realise this he needs to find a more suitable job.

NameChangeGalore · 23/08/2012 13:19

Actually overweight people DO have to have a higher dose of the pill. Why are people taking the piss?

Ephiny · 23/08/2012 13:23

I have heard that you might need a higher dose if over 11 stone (which is not necessarily overweight).

Never heard of needing a smaller dose if you're under 8 stone though. So no it's not a completely stupid question, and maybe some replies have been a bit harsh (though the OP's cutesy phrasing about 'little people' etc is probably not helping). But it's not something to do on a whim, and not it doesn't sound particularly practical to divide the pills up like that.

If anyone's concerned about the safety or appropriateness of the pill they're taking, of course they should get medical advice.

ThisIsNotHoneyDragon · 23/08/2012 13:27

Because it is a minimum dose in the pill, not a maximum?

There is no logical reason given by the op for taking less, other than she'd like to get pg but not now?

Because she is sexist?

Because biting a tiny pill in half for no damn good reason is daft?

scrablet · 23/08/2012 13:29

Because, Namechange, OP has had it explained that a higher dose might be prescribed, but not lower.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 23/08/2012 13:41

still no reason for everyone to massively take the piss out of the OP

Viviennemary · 23/08/2012 13:51

I apologise. I didn't know.

LineRunner · 23/08/2012 13:52

It's a pretty well kept secret. I never knew either.
