... to halve my Pill because I'm a small person?

peachesoncream · 22/08/2012 23:56

I take a daily dose of Cerazette: the Mini Pill. I can't take the combined pill because I have migraines, and I quite like a pill that covers me for 12 hours rather than 3.

I am a little person. I am just over 5 feet tall, and weigh 7st9lb. There are women double my weight with the same pill as me. The GP's dosage is not based on my weight.

Seeing as I am small in stature and low in weight, should I be on the same dosage as someone double by weight?

Am I playing with fire to only take a half or 3/4 of the tablet? Incidentally, getting pregnant would not be the end of the world- maybe a few months earlier than planned, but no catastrophe.

I just can't believe people don't know the risks .

Docs drill it into me every time I have a review!

Believe what you want to believe but be prepared to deal with the consequences!

peachesoncream · 23/08/2012 00:43

I have been on the pill for many, many years. I plan on coming off in early December, but most things say it takes 6 months for the pill to be out of your system.

DH is very much aware of baby making. He has a whole list of stupid middle names drawn up. It's not that he's incapable of talking about dosages; just he doesn't know. He looked in his good old BNF bible for answers, but there weren't any. He's not particularly fussed about when PFB is conceived.

I'm not set on a September baby, but a September onwards baby.

And no, I'm not a daft teen. How many teens would even check mumsnet for contraceptive advice?!

See!

ItsAPileOfBalls · 23/08/2012 00:46

Look, you have been lucky but threads like this promote too many myths and too many surprised people.

No to mention too many unplanned pregnancies.

BonkeyMollocks · 23/08/2012 00:50
Hmm
Empusa · 23/08/2012 00:51

A GP who doesn't know not to halve the Pill?? I hope to god this isn't for real! Shock

BonkeyMollocks · 23/08/2012 00:52

I repeat, and Im not the only one.....ONE WEEk!!!!!!

Some people even get pg on the pill, whilst taking it properly. Shock fucking horror!!!

ItsAPileOfBalls · 23/08/2012 00:53

It's not for real it's all in the OP's head (I hope) or God help us if this is the state of GP's working in surgeries today.

peachesoncream · 23/08/2012 00:54

But it wouldn't be unplanned exactly. I'm not going to be shocked or horrified if the half dosage thing doesn't work. Was just wondering if, as a smaller person, my half pill would cover me. I blatantly don't care all that much if it fails! I've already said that.

MY DH is a GP but, like lots of men, communicates in grunts and shuffles when asked for baby making advice. I hope he's not all snuffly with patients, but he certainly is with me.

What, exactly, would be the point of trolling on this?

"Some people even get pg on the pill, whilst taking it properly."

It just really isn't worth the risk.

arghhhmiddleage · 23/08/2012 00:55

Stop taking it when you want to conceive; continue to take it at the dose prescribed until you want to conceive. It's not rocket science.
As far as I know, reduced doses are never prescribed, the efficacy could not be guaranteed. Very obese people do get prescribed a x2 dose to be on the safe side, but no contraception is actually dosed by weight.
It is rare for return to fertility to be delayed when coming off any pill. That's why so many people have unplanned pregnancies when they forget one.

BonkeyMollocks · 23/08/2012 00:56

Im curious as to what will happen if the op has a August baby.

perfectstorm · 23/08/2012 00:56

I'm really pleased to hear it though, Bertie - I had a bugger of a time remembering to take mine, and I couldn't the combined. It must be great for those who can get on with Cerazette! Sorry you aren't one of them, what a pain.

PotteringAlong · 23/08/2012 00:57

I read the thread title as 'halve my PiL'

AllYoursBabooshka · 23/08/2012 00:57

I will repeat you Bonkey.

In bold.

In capitals.

THE SIX MONTH RULE IS A MYTH. PREGNANCY CAN HAPPEN IN AS LITTLE AS ONE WEEK WHEN YOU STOP TAKING THE PILL. ANY FORM OF CONTRACEPTIVE PILL

BonkeyMollocks · 23/08/2012 00:58

That.k you Allyours.

Im on the phone that would have been a effort Grin

LineRunner · 23/08/2012 00:58

OP, is your DH the GP on EastEnders?

ItsAPileOfBalls · 23/08/2012 00:59

PotteringAlong Grin

perfectstorm · 23/08/2012 01:00

Or was he the GYN-OB on ER? 'Cause seriously, for a hospital chock-full of medics they had a gazillion babies, and not one was planned.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 23/08/2012 01:05

Just take it or dont fucking take it! TTC or dont. Whats the point of pissing about with the dosage?

AllYoursBabooshka · 23/08/2012 01:05

My DH works in IT and doesn't grunt and shuffle when I ask him for advice about my computer.

He should really be informing you better when it comes to your health, baby making or otherwise.
