... to halve my Pill because I'm a small person?

peachesoncream · 22/08/2012 23:56

I take a daily dose of Cerazette: the Mini Pill. I can't take the combined pill because I have migraines, and I quite like a pill that covers me for 12 hours rather than 3.

I am a little person. I am just over 5 feet tall, and weigh 7st9lb. There are women double my weight with the same pill as me. The GP's dosage is not based on my weight.

Seeing as I am small in stature and low in weight, should I be on the same dosage as someone double by weight?

Am I playing with fire to only take a half or 3/4 of the tablet? Incidentally, getting pregnant would not be the end of the world- maybe a few months earlier than planned, but no catastrophe.

I hope your DH is not mine or my kids GP. He doesn't seem to know much does he?

openerofjars · 23/08/2012 00:21

Well, it's probably less uncomfortable than having half a coil in.

Similarly pointless, though.

Alternatively, you could have sex standing on a biscuit tin filled with gravel.

peachesoncream · 23/08/2012 00:21

DH is not my GP. He does not give me medical advice unless I ask him specifically which is for the best or I'd never hear the end of anything.

I'm not a troll. It's a genuine question. Why is a 'one dose fits all' approach the best?

If your DH is a GP why don't you just ask him? Confused

Surely better to get advice from a medical professional than MN?

SpottedGurnard · 23/08/2012 00:26

Because it is a hormone. How much you produce is not equivalent to weight.

Jeez, ask your dp instead of looking foolish on here.

iscream · 23/08/2012 00:26

No, your doctor would have prescribed the dose he or she felt was correct for you.
If I wanted to conceive in Dec., I'd go off of the pill now and use condoms or something, for a couple of months. Good luck.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 23/08/2012 00:28

And don't forget to mention all this not taking/half taking the pill to the potential father will you. He might just like a say in whether or not you concieve his child.

AllYoursBabooshka · 23/08/2012 00:29

Just take the medication as directed, otherwise you are never 100% certain if it's working properly.

Also, splitting some tables effects how they work as their coating changes how they dissolve in your stomach.

Schoolworries · 23/08/2012 00:30

This makes no sense.

Your husband is a highly trained medical professional and his answer was a shrug. Can he not answer you because your not a registerd patient or something, Im lost here...

EightiesChick · 23/08/2012 00:31

I suggest you go to medical school and find out for yourself, if you don't feel able to trust the standard prescribing approach used by doctors up and down the country. Do you not want to ask your DH because he will point out what a bonkers idea this is? And I still don't get why it's going to take a long time to come off the pill, unless you just mean you want to wait a while to try for particular timing of conception.

perfectstorm · 23/08/2012 00:32

Absolutely reasonable, as women who halve pills are more likely to split the ovum, and therefore have twins.

The above comment makes as much sense as you.

I'm not a GP but the very idea sounds nonsensical.

AllYoursBabooshka · 23/08/2012 00:34

Can I also suggest that if in future you are unhappy with your GPs decision you seek a second opinion rather than taking your health into your own hands?

You shouldn't be messing with any medication and I'm really surprised your DH hasn't told you this.

BonkeyMollocks · 23/08/2012 00:35

Really? Hmm

What happens if you don't get you Sep baby?

I actually can't believe someone can be so stupid as to think this!
Ask your dh ffs .....unless he isn't a GP ...Hmm

AllYoursBabooshka · 23/08/2012 00:36

Even if the OP is not sincere, I would hate for someone to read this thread and think it's something that may work.

I've heard loads of bollocks about pills, it's not that surprising. Someone I used to know practically laughed at me when I said I was annoyed I'd missed one because now I'd have to use condoms for a week, she said in complete seriousness that you can miss up to 3 pills during the 3-week cycle with no ill effects whatsoever and no need to use condoms also Confused Rather her than me...

I don't understand how you would split a contraceptive pill anyway, I've got mine in front of me now, they're about 3mm in diameter. They'd just disintegrate and then where would you be?

perfectstorm · 23/08/2012 00:39

It's been a long time since I was on the pill. But God, the whole point is the reliability. Why take it, otherwise, unless medically indicated for a hormonal issue or something?

AllYoursBabooshka · 23/08/2012 00:39

My friend did too Bonkey, much to her surprise!

She assumed she would have at least six months before it was even possible for her to get pregnant.

She is not the only woman I have heard this opinion from.

BertieBotts · 23/08/2012 00:39

You have 12 hours on cerazette too perfectstorm.

perfectstorm · 23/08/2012 00:40

"They drum into you that a missed pill is enough to trigger conception."

Sorry, that should be "allow". Not laying claim to the pill's ability to trigger an immaculate conception.

perfectstorm · 23/08/2012 00:41

Oh, really? Thanks Bertie, I didn't know that (a lot HAS changed!).

But... it's still an odd idea!

BertieBotts · 23/08/2012 00:42

I think it's the only one - the others still have a 2 hour window. Cerazette didn't agree with me at all, though!
