... to halve my Pill because I'm a small person?

peachesoncream · 22/08/2012 23:56

I take a daily dose of Cerazette: the Mini Pill. I can't take the combined pill because I have migraines, and I quite like a pill that covers me for 12 hours rather than 3.

I am a little person. I am just over 5 feet tall, and weigh 7st9lb. There are women double my weight with the same pill as me. The GP's dosage is not based on my weight.

Seeing as I am small in stature and low in weight, should I be on the same dosage as someone double by weight?

Am I playing with fire to only take a half or 3/4 of the tablet? Incidentally, getting pregnant would not be the end of the world- maybe a few months earlier than planned, but no catastrophe.

Blimey if you conceived in December and your baby was born a few weeks early they'd scupper your plans wouldn't they?

(only read first page)

openerofjars · 23/08/2012 08:56

Hmm. OP not come back?

I have a vision of her staying up all night, sitting at a workbench with a jeweller's glass screwed into her eye, sawing cerazette pills in half with a tiny weeny hacksaw and her tongue poking out of the corner of her mouth in concentration...

She's probably catching up on her sleep.

Trills · 23/08/2012 08:57

From the misconceptions of the title we've got

AIBU to halve my PiL
because I'm a small person (with dwarfism)

Much more interesting than this thread... especially because I am imagining Tyrion from Game of Thrones

BlueEyedPeas · 23/08/2012 08:59

Do you only take one paracetamol instead of two, seeing as you are small?

DowntonOut · 23/08/2012 09:10

OP, why do you want to halve it? It's free, so not a financial reason, and you seem to have been well on it so far. So what reason could you have for considering this other than sheer twattery? Hmm

And before trying to choose when your baby is born, go and read some of the conception threads for a reality check.

YusMilady · 23/08/2012 09:12

Well I'm a summer baby and I'm a fucking genius. [offended]

GoingforGoingforGOLD · 23/08/2012 09:18

Winter baby [shudder]

Clothes on / cloths off
Too hot / too cold
Early evening screamy time pacing indoors cos it's too cold and wet to go for a calming walk
The interminable darkness
The 15 different layers needed to pop out for a pint of milk and the hour and a half to get them on

Give me a thicky summer baby any day

Voice of experience

lilmamma · 23/08/2012 09:21

I had an april and may baby and a august and december, and tbh,it didnt really make any difference academically. the summer babys had the pram and nice parasol and the winter baby a plastic rain cover :)

Sastra · 23/08/2012 09:25

Sorry if I'm being stupid, OP, but why do you even want to halve you're mini pill?

It's not like they're hard to swallow or that you'll save money or something? What's the issue with taking the whole pill?

Sastra · 23/08/2012 09:26

Sigh: *your

MrsRobertDuvallHasRosacea · 23/08/2012 09:29

I have heard it all now.

I look forward to seeing this story in the DM accompanied by op looking "sad" holding up half a pill, while surrounded by 5 children.

wigglesrock · 23/08/2012 09:38

Aaah too funny, if it helps I have 3 children all born at different times of the year. The "summer" baby, very late June - it was the easiest re the pregnancy - wasn't too warm when I was big, was able to get out right away and enjoy the drizzling rain sunshine etc, everything seemed bright. The Halloween baby - eight weeks before Christmas - dark, cold, windy days and nights - not so much and the Feb baby - snowed for her first 2 weeks.

My summer baby is the youngest in her year and we've never had any problems - she's about to go into her fourth year of primary school.

Whyriskit · 23/08/2012 09:39

OP - i'm 4ft 10, was taking whole cerazette prior to ttc my boys. DS1 took 2 cycles, DS2 took 1.
And it clearly wouldn't suit your plans to move to scotland where the oldest in the year are march born - the studies you've cited really are only relevant to academic years in England.

WandaDoff · 23/08/2012 09:43

Well that's five minutes I'll never get back.

ethelb · 23/08/2012 09:47

OP, the pill is designed for thin people as when it was first made women were thinner. there are problems with it not being effective in larger women.

if you want a baby why don't you just have a baby?

DowntonOut · 23/08/2012 09:49

Whyriskit - well said. I was about to ask what happens when GP DH gets offered a job in Scotland and suddenly the winter baby is at the bottom of the year (like I was - oh and look at all my good grades Wink)

goingforgold please don't scare me. DC1 was a summer baby. The next one is coming this winter

SpottedGurnard · 23/08/2012 09:56

I think by GP OP clearly meant her husband is a grandparent Wink.

FWIW, my dp is Dr (not GP) and if I asked a question like this he would sit down with me and explain why it was a stupid idea. But I guess that's because he knows I will understand and because I have an interest too.

BertieBotts · 23/08/2012 09:56

I guess there are other risks as well - if you do get pregnant while on the pill, there's a higher chance of ectopic pregnancy because not only does the pill prevent an egg from being released, it also reduces the womb lining so it's harder for a fertilised embryo to implant. This means there's a higher chance of the embryo implanting somewhere else like the fallopian tube.

If you're taking a low dose you have no idea what effect it will have on either of these - what's to say it might only affect one of these things? If you released an egg but the womb lining was not suitable that could end up being very dangerous.

ShowOfHands · 23/08/2012 09:58

[disappointed]

I thought op was going to be borrowers small. I was all excited for a minute.

Och well.

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 23/08/2012 10:03

If my GP had to look this question up in the BNF, I would change doctor.

SpottedGurnard · 23/08/2012 10:17

TheDoctrine- if my Dr looked it up in the BNF and THEN still couldn't give me an answer I would be running for the hills!

Trills · 23/08/2012 11:25

Showy if she was Borrowers small she'd need a lot less than half!

ThisIsNotHoneyDragon · 23/08/2012 11:28

If they are borrowers that would explain why her dh huffs and puffs and grunts trying to find relevant info in his book.

TheDoctrineOfEnnis · 23/08/2012 11:34

I wish I was a Borrower and a strawberry cream Quality Street lasted a week.

Actually, no, I wish I had a strawbeery cream Quality Street that was twice the size of my head.

bragmatic · 23/08/2012 11:37

You'll only get half pregnant. Should be ok.
