... to halve my Pill because I'm a small person?

peachesoncream · 22/08/2012 23:56

I take a daily dose of Cerazette: the Mini Pill. I can't take the combined pill because I have migraines, and I quite like a pill that covers me for 12 hours rather than 3.

I am a little person. I am just over 5 feet tall, and weigh 7st9lb. There are women double my weight with the same pill as me. The GP's dosage is not based on my weight.

Seeing as I am small in stature and low in weight, should I be on the same dosage as someone double by weight?

Am I playing with fire to only take a half or 3/4 of the tablet? Incidentally, getting pregnant would not be the end of the world- maybe a few months earlier than planned, but no catastrophe.

You might be small but what size is your uterus? What size are your ovaries?

pumpkinsweetie · 23/08/2012 04:34

Im not getting it opConfused?
You want to get pregnant, yet instead of coming of the pill, you want to halve it?
Not only will it not work, you may find yourself pregnant and be feeding your unborn fuetus unessesary hormonesHmm

Tell your dp, you want to start ttc and stop taking it altogether or keep taking the whole pill until you actually want to concieve. The pill's affects dissapear when you discontinue with it, it won't affect ttc once you finish & have had your last pill period

MrsTrellisOfSouthWales · 23/08/2012 04:56

You might be able to plan when you conceive but you have zero control over when you will go into labour - you know that, right?

ZacharyQuack · 23/08/2012 06:02

DH is really tall. I'm going to make him wear two condoms.

The short men can just cut them in half.

I'm sure there's some veiled boast contained in this whole thing (dainty little tinker bell me, so wee and cute I only need half a pill) but its coming across as a bit thick.

Chubfuddler · 23/08/2012 06:18

LOL Zachary.

maddening · 23/08/2012 06:19

no one can come on here and advise you to go ahead with your plan as that would be silly - essentially medical advice is required and that is not possible here and possibly even a gp would not advise you as such. I realise that there is some discussion in the press about overweight women not being covered as they require a greater dose but I was under the impression that this theory required greater research? So even experts in the field might not be able to advise you - let alone a gp.

hope you get the due date you want - incidentally - have also heard that some women are more fertile when they come off the pill- my friend came off planning to ttc 6 mths later and conceived first month. If it bothers you though come off and use condoms until your are ready. We all know what you'll be up to on christmas day ;-)

maddening · 23/08/2012 06:21

and fxd you don't go into labour early and give birth on 31st august Grin

ClogDancingCarrot · 23/08/2012 06:25

Actually, I don't think it is an unreasonable question to ask. I can see where you are coming from. It is wrong however, and it is the larger women who should be doubling their doses. It has nothing to do with the "amount of hormone you produce" and all to do with size. I don't know the half life of the pill but when you want to come off it, pharmacologically speaking if you take less, yes it will take less time to come out of your system. However, given you have to take a pill every 24 hours you are probably talking a matter of hours rather than months or days. Stick with your full pill, it will make sure you are protected.

DolomitesDonkey · 23/08/2012 06:36

Yes, take half a pill.

Being "small in stature" only means you can have half a baby.

HTH.

cumbria81 · 23/08/2012 06:37

Er - I'm a summer baby and I've always done just fine thank you very much!

BelleDameSansMerci · 23/08/2012 07:07

It's the mini-pill. You have to take it at the same time(ish) every day, without fail, or you are not covered. It's not like combined pill where you can miss one and be fairly safe about taking it a bit late, etc.

As soon as you stop taking mini-pill you will return to your normal fertility.

As others have said, take it or don't - don't mess about with the dose.

ThePigOnTheWall · 23/08/2012 07:17

Op you do know that those "facts" about summer babies are statistics about the whole population, not something that applies specifically to your baby don't you? That's how statistics work

If your baby is born on 1 September instead of 31 August, it won't suddenly be 20 iq points brighter because of the statistics.

I know plenty of thick people born in the winter months. It's an average, which, by its very nature, takes into account both ends of the spectrum

ipswichwitch · 23/08/2012 07:18

I took a year to conceive after coming off the pill. And I'm an August baby and always did very well at school. With all the will in the world you will not be able to time when you have your baby- DS was 6 weeks early. Frankly if these are the sort of daft statements you make at home im not surprised your DH just shrugs at you. Probably deals with lots of patients who fiddle on with their medication without knowing what the hell they're doing, then complain about the fall out- I know because I get it all the time at work and I'm always a bit Hmm. Just take it like it says on the packet fgs, or if you must, ask a pharmacist

Sorry, not feeling very tolerant this morning

Bobyan · 23/08/2012 07:21

Your not a "little" person ffs and speaking as someone who's babies both arrived a month early, you actually sound slightly nuts to think babies arrive on a well scheduled timetable.

EdithWeston · 23/08/2012 07:21

It's the same dose for the minipill across Asia, where OP would be average/large.

It's already set at the minimum effective does for a human. Large humans need to increase it (advised to take two), so dosage is weight dependent. I'm worried for GP DH's larger patients as they may not be on the correct weight dose.

Unless of course he's just shrugging for "yes dear" reasons as it's possible he's given up on trying to get basic medical info through.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 23/08/2012 07:27

Hmm at competitive flaming from many on this thread and trying to come up with most clever insult

shesariver · 23/08/2012 07:28

If I can choose when I conceive, then I will do it so that I don't have a summer birth.

You do realise you cant choose when you conceive? You can only try every month but there is no guarantee at all!! Its not like ordering a takeaway and knowing when it will turn up you know.

Diddydollydo · 23/08/2012 07:35

Take the whole pill. You shouldn't mess around with the doseage.

I'm 5'1 and a similar weight and do not think of myself as a 'little person'. I'm an adult.

LynetteScavo · 23/08/2012 07:40

OP, try it, then come back and let us all know that you are pregnant if it works or not.
