... to halve my Pill because I'm a small person?

peachesoncream · 22/08/2012 23:56

I take a daily dose of Cerazette: the Mini Pill. I can't take the combined pill because I have migraines, and I quite like a pill that covers me for 12 hours rather than 3.

I am a little person. I am just over 5 feet tall, and weigh 7st9lb. There are women double my weight with the same pill as me. The GP's dosage is not based on my weight.

Seeing as I am small in stature and low in weight, should I be on the same dosage as someone double by weight?

Am I playing with fire to only take a half or 3/4 of the tablet? Incidentally, getting pregnant would not be the end of the world- maybe a few months earlier than planned, but no catastrophe.

OP posts:

I think you are confusing the different types of medicines. Steroids for eg are dished out based on weight. So if you are an adult or heavier person your dosage is higher because they work by calculating how many mg per kg.

But not the pill.

Also about your planning a sept child.... I foolishly thought that too (based however on many friends seemingly falling pregnant 'just like that'). We ended up taking almost a year to get dc1. And dc2 took just 4 tries... So maybe you are just being naive like I was!!! Grin

ThisIsNotHoneyDragon · 23/08/2012 07:47

Well tbf Fanjo, I wrote quite a long post explaining that statistically she is not small and minimum doses of medication etc.

And also pointed out that she is exceptionally unpleasant about men in general and that they do not communicate as she has described.

But it timed out on posting. So I summarised.

The op is not heeding any advice anyway so it really doesn't matter what people post, and hopefully this thread will be deleted ASAP.

StealthPolarBear · 23/08/2012 07:48

Why would you do this? If you think you're on too high a dose, here's an idea - go and talk to someone about your concerns and ask whether the dosage is correct. That's what grown up people do Hmm

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 23/08/2012 07:52

OP are you this dense about everything?

this may be the daftest thread I've read on here. I've read ones about missing toasters and everything.

for information i was advised to wait 'a few months' after coming off pill to ttc. i got impatient after 2 months and DS1 was conceived the 3rd cycle. DS2 however took 11 months, so you really can't plan anything.

ithaka · 23/08/2012 07:55

You are not especially small - I am your size, as are and quite a few women my age in Scotland. I would stick with what your GP prescribed.

My DH is a geography teacher and if I make the mistake of looking interested won't shut up about Y shaped valleys and glaciation. Still better than grunts and snuffles, I suppose.

GragPop · 23/08/2012 07:58

over 5 feet tall, and weigh 7st9lb = little person? Confused

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 23/08/2012 08:08

Why don't you just take one pill every second day. That will save you biting them in half. Hmm

TreacleSoda · 23/08/2012 08:10

really what you're saying is that you don't trust your GP to have prescribed you the right medication. And that you don't trust the pharmacist, because if the dose on the prescription seems wrong they would contact the GP to double check it. And then all those years of research and trials before a drug can be prescribed, those are probably wrong too. Because scientists believe that every woman in the world is the same weight and height. Hmm.

Orenishii · 23/08/2012 08:12

I genuinely thought when I read the thread title "Because I'm a small person" the OP was going to say she was a dwarf. That's how the pantomime actors in the channel 4 documentary Seven Dwarves described themselves - small people.

OP, I sorta see where you're coming from - even the bits about your GP DH not affording you, his wife, the same level of care as his patients. My DH used to work in IT - asking him for help with my Mac was too much akin to work, which he hated. Mind you, he's now a personal trainer and if I so much as ask about nutrition, I should get ready for a long discussion Hmm

Anyway, plenty of people on here have explained what your DH should have - you're really not that small, below average yes but not so small you need special dosages. And more importantly, hormones don't need recalibrating to that degree. If it helps, I came off the pill 3 months before TTCing because I grew to hate the nasty chemical hormones in my system and it just seemed better to be au natural Grin We used condoms for a while, until we were ready to try, and I got pregnant on the second month. My advice would be - just come off completely, it's not good to have so much synthetic hormones in your body anyway, use condoms for 3 or 4 months and good luck!

ThreeWheelsGood · 23/08/2012 08:15

I've read all the thread and can't work out WHY the OP wants to take half a pill? The only explanation would be to save money by eking them out - except the pill is free in the UK! Confused

ThisIsNotHoneyDragon · 23/08/2012 08:18

I can't understand how she intends to have a baby with someone she clearly has no communication with.

HiHowAreYou · 23/08/2012 08:19

If you don't want a summer baby, wait until March to conceive. December would be a terrible risk. Babies can come early sometimes you know.

Lizcat · 23/08/2012 08:35

The pill taking 6 months to be out of your system is very much a myth. In veterinary medicine we use these hormone to give accurate timed ovulation. A large number of us female vets use this to our advantage and try for a baby immediately after stopping the pill as you are actually more fertile then. A large number of us conceive on the first cycle - in fact very similar figures around 75% to what we would expected in cows when we use this effect.
Hormones are not size dependent I give a 250kg cow the same dose of hormone as I give a 750Kg cow just as effective in both cases.

Fizzybee · 23/08/2012 08:36

But what if you only get half a baby from taking half a pill???

NeedlesCuties · 23/08/2012 08:38

My DH is a GP too. Not my GP, but he does give me medical advice if I ask for it.

No way would he "grunt" and be "uncommunicative" regarding medical advice, especially if it related to our family life.

OP, I think your DH needs to buck up a bit and tell you you're deluded. The BNF might not have clarified his (lack of) knowledge, but there are numerous other sources of info for doctors.

YABU.

PavlovtheCat · 23/08/2012 08:39

My friend, a nurse, who felt it ok to advise me, advised me not to take half a friends 10mg Valium when my back had gone (was waiting for gp call back to get an emergency prescription for some) as she said the drug is not evenly distributed around the pill. So I might have much more than 5mg or much less than 5 mg, resuming the half is broken evenly in the first place.

I am guessing that uneven distribution would be the same in a (teeny tiny) contraceptive pill.

And, I was on contraception, the same one for years, no break. I had my tooth pulled and was on strong anti biotics for 7 days. Around 6 weeks or so later, I found out I was pregnant. So, it is potentially actually really really bloody easy to conceive after Stopping the pill. Another friend of mine struggled to conceive, it took her just under a year. you cannot be certain if it will be immediate, or much longer than planned.

Not really sure why you think takingone is problematic, especially if you have been taking a whole pill for many years, and are intending on stopping in December Confused it does not make sense that you now have concerns. It does smack of Billy.

OddBoots · 23/08/2012 08:42

If your worry is that it will be harder to fall pregnant when you want to then why not stop entirely and use condoms for a couple of months? (Sorry, this may have been suggested already without me noticing).

TandB · 23/08/2012 08:46

YABVU

At 7 stone 9, you are only a few pounds lighter than I was when I first went on the pill. Therefore you clearly need to trim exactly 2/7 of your pill off and discard it.

But it has to be exactly 2/7. Or you will instantly become pregnant with octuplets.

HTH

Trills · 23/08/2012 08:47

If you want to get pregnant, stop taking it.

If you don't want to get pregnant, use your contraception as the doctor or nurse recommended.

It's not really a question of being reasonable, it's a question of what do you want?

Are you trying to get pregnant "by accident"? Is there something about TTC that scares you, so you'd rather it "just happened"?

TandB · 23/08/2012 08:48

Oh and I was on the pill for 13 years and got pregnant with DS1 within a matter of days of stopping it. I went back on it and then had a chemical pregnancy within a couple of weeks of stopping it again, and then conceived DS2 on the first attempt after that.

PerryThePornDog · 23/08/2012 08:50

I thought this post was going to be from an akshewal dwarf.

perfectstorm · 23/08/2012 08:52

In fairness, I'm glad DS was an autumn baby. Not because of academics, just because a friend's kid is 2 months older and off to school, and they are still babies, really. A year makes a huge difference at that age, and when we were toddlers there wasn't a reception year, so they go when smaller now. I think someone who is barely 4 is really small for a school setting, myself.
