nowadays seem to believe that all hair on their bodies must be waxed off entirely.

I know some people say they prefer it but IME young girls ALL seem to think it's normal to be totally hair free. WHY??

AIBU to think this is terribly sad that they are put under this pressure to wax it all off all the time.

It's a trend. A fashion just like....

Hair extensions
False eyelashes
Spray tans
Straight hair
Low cut jeans

It'll pass and then we'll see a new trend.

I don't know why some people pay so much mind to it.

WorraLiberty · 18/08/2012 14:05

Oh and they're not more put under pressure than boys are

Pubic hair (or lots of it) isn't particularly 'fashionable' for either sex at the moment.

BlackberryIce · 18/08/2012 14:05

'young girls' ? How do you mean. My dd and her friends certainly dont

fartattack · 18/08/2012 14:06

It's the peer pressure young girls will be on each other that makes me sad.

They will have to do it to fit in I would have thought and young boys will think it's normal and so it goes on.

I can't see it as a passing trend unfortunately.

Really Worra??

AGilchrist · 18/08/2012 14:07

my cousin is 18 and doesn't do this, neither do her friends. They think its too much effort, money and pain.
They are all well groomed.

fartattack · 18/08/2012 14:08

That's good, two posters saying their girls and friends don't do it....

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 18/08/2012 14:09

It's just pubic hair...nothing to feel 'sad' about.

They'll either remove it or they won't

I genuinely don't think anyone laments the passing of said pubes as they wash down the plug hole.

Young men and women tend to have a bit more sense than they're given credit for and if they don't want to do it, no-one's going to pin them down and Veet them to death.

BlackberryIce · 18/08/2012 14:09

18 almost 19. It's not something they seem to bother with, or spray tans.

Worra
I think it's sad that the expectation is that it's normal to get rid of it all. Peer pressure to do something quite unnatural at a time when they are so conscious of their bodies.
No-one will pin them down and veet them but a first boyfriend might say something derogatory simply because it is not the norm. It would take a very confident young girl to not conform I think.

I don't agree it's a trend that will pass. It's because of the porn industry, brought to every young boy and girl in the land via the magic of the internet. Nothing but bare fannies.

fartattack · 18/08/2012 14:14

Blackberry You are cheering me up thank you Smile

Dd 15 has her bikini line waxed because she swims a lot.
She has no interest in going higher.

redpanda13 · 18/08/2012 14:16

No my sister is 19 and is well groomed but has never been for a wax. No spray tan either.

fartattack · 18/08/2012 14:17

I may start distributing some 70's German porn to the young local lads just to counterbalance the hair free noughties stuff Wink

ancienthistrionics · 18/08/2012 14:17

It's hard for a young girl to distinguish whether she wants to do something for herself, or wants to do it because her friends do it and she wants to fit in.

It's nonsense. There's nothing wrong with public hair.

ancienthistrionics · 18/08/2012 14:19

Yes fart and circulate copies of Jilly Cooper with tales men luxuriating in finding a proper welcoming damp curly thatch.

Your post made me smile. Do you know if your not the norm in your age group though? I am way older than you

OP posts:
EngTech · 18/08/2012 14:21

It is the fashion at the moment, if you are of a certain age, you realise that if you stay still, fashion comes around once more

fartattack · 18/08/2012 14:22

Engtech

The thing is though I can't see it changing. It seems to have just been a gradual move in one direction to less and less until there is none.
