nowadays seem to believe that all hair on their bodies must be waxed off entirely.

I know some people say they prefer it but IME young girls ALL seem to think it's normal to be totally hair free. WHY??

AIBU to think this is terribly sad that they are put under this pressure to wax it all off all the time.

Evasmum
You say it doesn't exist and yet 2 posters have actually experience being ridiculed by boys for not shaving enough pubes off! It's there in black and white!

I remember shaving my legs at ten and that was 1990 so I don't think it's a particularly new trend. I'm part Greek and naturally have dark hairs everywhere and I remember getting upset because boys at school were calling me names so I got mymum's razor and shaved my legs. I'vealways been jealous of girls with sparse/fair body hair. I have to remove dark facial hair and my legs armpits show dark regrowth after a day of shaving. Don't even get me started on my bikini line!

That's good to hear Dawndonna Smile

But they could have been ridiculed about anything

Taste in music
Shoes
Clothes
Hairstyle (on head)
Acne

Absolutely anything at all

If the thread was about how awful peer pressure can be, I'd understand your point.

But hoiking your pants up about what people choose to do with their own body hair is just a bit odd imo.

fartattack · 18/08/2012 16:38

Your not making any sense Worra. My OP is perfectly clear.

YABU.

ALL young girls? Have you taken a poll?

It's pubic hair, have it how you want. Plait it, dye it, leave it.

postolympicblues · 18/08/2012 16:43

I am hair free and I'm 44. I prefer to be that way.How do you know these 'young girls' don't?

fartattack · 18/08/2012 16:45

worra
'But hoiking your pants up about what people choose to do with their own body hair is just a bit odd imo'

In my OP I used the words 'must' and ALL in capitals.

I have not judged anyone for anything in fact all my posts are clearly stating the reverse. It's the very fact that they feel the have to conform or be judged by others that makes me sad.

I don't think my posts could have been any clearer.

Obviously some will be happy to be pube free but I think the trend has led to an expectation from some boys which has been backed up by a couple of posters negative experiences on this thread.

I don't think it should be legal to provide these salon services or wax products in shops to under 18s.

MAYBELATERNOWIMBUSY · 18/08/2012 17:50

in my far flung youth the guys wore more make up than girls , often , would be asked by one of them to let them have perhaps eyeliner ,foundation ,what brush (make up) i used? as far as i"M aware ,all married etc ,no harm done ,(was 70"s) a phase (ah youth , bloody wasted on the young

Kayano · 18/08/2012 17:53

So you would be legally old enough to have sex but not go for a wax Hmm

Errr nar

crashdoll · 18/08/2012 17:59

How can you feel sad about what someone chooses to do with their pubic hair?!

AGilchrist · 18/08/2012 18:15

But OP, ALL is wrong.
I haven't seen many fanjos, in fact none.
I think you are taking the whole 'waxing is taking over our teens' a bit too far.
not everyone is doing this. When I was a school the peer pressure was perms. Most had one, I didn't as my hair was to my waist and would have cost a fortune, by the time I was 17 sleek hair was the must. Took me half the time of everyone else as everone else was growing out their perm.
See, a phase.

AGilchrist · 18/08/2012 18:19

So you would be able to drive but not decide to wax your fanjo, really?

Krumbum · 18/08/2012 18:47

The majority do. There is much more pressure in girls than boys. Obviously.
The reason it is more of an issue than a fashion is because its so intimate and sexual. Even if no sexual partner is seeing it the idea you must change your genitals to be acceptable means your already at a point where your body is seen as unsavoury, unacceptable sexually and that can only get worse, seeing the pleasure of men as paramount.

Kayano · 18/08/2012 18:51

It's not always for men though that's the point!!! Women can make their own minds up and if someone were to say anything we should be raising our girls to have a backbone and say no, it's my decision, my body and if you have an issue that's your problem and it's just you and your hand tonight'

2 posters out of how many? Have had an issue and I'm not aware of them actually saying it made them shave all their hair off in the end?

BeeBee12 · 18/08/2012 18:53

It might be a couple of boys but I dont think its common for boys to want completely shaven

Krumbum · 18/08/2012 18:55

It's not one on one necessarily. It's not directly a guy telling you to remove hair. It's a culturally expectation. If everyone around you talks about female body hair with disgust, as dirty or unnatural. If ALL famous women clearly have no body hair, hair removal ads are everywhere taking about feeling confident. All this adds up to an intense pressure that to fit in, to be clean and normal you must depilate.

BeeBee12 · 18/08/2012 18:57

Never known it culturally expected to remove all pubes its not like armhair more of a niche thing

Krumbum · 18/08/2012 19:03

It is for young women now.
I gots more examples! The way that 99% of female underwear and swimwear is cut so that it exposes the pubic hair. Worship of porn stars and glamour models eg Jenna Jameson and Jordan. Beauty shops being seen as leisure time for women; 'treat' yourself to a beautification session.

BeeBee12 · 18/08/2012 19:12

I hang around with all young women and men and definitely dont think it is seen as a big deal.arm pit hair would be and most trim down there but not all off

QuangleWangleQuee · 18/08/2012 19:16

bumbez What would you and your colleagues class as lots of pubes? If someone shaved up to the bikini line only and trimmed them short, would that still be classed as lots of pubes because the person hadn't shaved further than the bikini line? Just interested to know whether medical peeps think I have lots when I go for smears etc. I do the trim and shave up to the bikini line but not further (as was standard when i was younger.)

Krumbum · 18/08/2012 19:19

Even if there's a bit left its still altering your body and hurting yourself because of social pressure!

BeeBee12 · 18/08/2012 19:21

I just mean cutting with scissors not waxibg. It doesnt hurt does it? Dont know anyone that waxes and no lads that are bothered particularly
