To not want toys and bears from the flea market

My DM keeps giving my 3dc toys and bears from the flea Market (ie second hand)
She gets something every week
I really appreciate the thought, but hate the idea of second hand stuff
My oldest dd had now told mil who also thinks this isn't on
Id be happy with £1 shop items, crayons or even nothing at all, rather than other people's rubbish

My MIL buys shite toys from the pound shop all the time and they break so easily which isn't safe or fun for DS.

Lots of people get rid of toys simply because they have been grown out of.

I've never been to a flea market even though I shop in charity shops, nearly news, vintage fayres etc..

YABU, recycling toys is the best thing isn't it? I hope so, since I only ever buy toys from charity shops apart from big pressies like. Other people's rubbish will often be my DS's new game.

do we even have proper flea markets in the UK? second hand sellers and charity shops are quite choosey! I supposed car boot sales are the closest we have (where stuff isn't sifted through heavily beforehand)

I personally wouldn't want toys from a flea market or charity shop because I don't know where they have been. But then, I have OCD so I'm obsessive about cleanliness. And yes I know they can be washed, and I know I'm irrational - but hey, that's the nature of the beast.

I have no issue with second hand stuff from people I know though - it's not the used part, it's the not knowing for me.

She s brought dd2 a princess toy today, and all night I've been thinking about how lovely it would have been when New, with all the pieces there, in a box, and working properly
I think it just caught me on a off moment, but it really would have been a great gift when new
I got quite sad watching dd trying to make it work properly, then giving ip after 45mins

I would tactfully say you don't want anymore cuddley toys taking over the bedroom, YANBU on toys that can't be disinfected.

Worra mil "kindly" suggested if dc needed a toy so much that I was buying them second hand, she would put in the extra, to buy new!

Yanbu second hand soft toys that cannot be wiped are gross. 2nd hand stuff like a plastic top or book are ok. Or clothes that can be washed.

I wonder if all the lovers of 2nd hand stuff consider that soft toys could have been stored in a mouldy garage or stinky loft etc but bear no visible signs of this.

There's a big flea market on Thursdays where I live in Chesterfield. People who turn their noses up at second hand stuff are just snobs IMO.

Surely you can wash soft toys in anti-bac detergent, and wipe anything else with milton?
OK if the toys are broken then she could maybe choose more carefully. But why is it gross or distasteful to re-use them rather than have them go to landfill?

There are no fleas, just means "second hand" . I wouldn't want second hand stuffed animals (cuddly toys) or upholstered items but would be OK with anything else. YANBU.

How ungrateful you are to your poor mum who is only thinking of your little girls - you can stick cuddly toys in the washing machine you know! And you can recycle decent stuff instead of getting pound crap which has been made for pennies by some poor Chinese sweatshop worker.
