To ask if you have sex when on a period

NoSex · 13/08/2012 19:54

My dh will not have sex with me when i am on a period, I respect that it make him feel grossed out, but I am on for 5-7 days which is IMO a long time with out sex :(

Aibu to think a grown man should not be freaked out by a bit of blood

We do boyfriend doesn't seem to care, my ex and I used to too.

Agree with you op 5 days is a long time to go without sex Wink

And I'm going to make the most of my high sex drive while I've got it.

MammaTJisanOlympicSumoWrestler · 13/08/2012 20:54

I am hornier than ever at the time of the month. I use a contraceptive sponge and DP is none the wiser.

anditwasallyellow · 13/08/2012 20:55

My bf also does oral while I'm on as long as I'm not heavy Shock got to love him.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 13/08/2012 20:55

I would (and have done) but my boyfriend doesn't like it so don't now. I always preferred it in the first few days rather than the smellier and more stringy later days, even though it's often heavier to begin with.

ShowOfHands · 13/08/2012 21:03

This is one of the things that MN taught me. I thought nobody would but am always v surprised that the majority seem to continue having sex whilst on.

But then I think sex for anything other than procreation is morally wrong.

anditwasallyellow · 13/08/2012 21:06

Are you serious?

nymeria · 13/08/2012 21:06

No, I never have, and can't imagine I'd want to. Sounds messy to me, and 'whipping out' a tampon just before doesn't appeal, surely the dryness would make it very uncomfortable? There are plenty of other days in the month.

I am also Confused that 5 days is a long time to go without sex, but I guess we're all different!

MamaMary · 13/08/2012 21:10

My DH doesn't have have a problem with it. I used to whip out my tampon out and now I use a moon cup he begs me to take it out.... First couple of days of period I say no because it's too heavy but after that it's fine.

Noren · 13/08/2012 21:13

I really prefer men who don't have a problem with it. My DH is absolutely fine with it. I do sometimes use a diaphragm though, which contains everything for the duration. You can get dispoable cups that do the same thing.

Aeryn · 13/08/2012 21:16

Yes. My period stop on the third day of the cycle and is very light for the remaining 2 days. My body probably does this to compensate me (and my Husband!) for the horrendous PMS the week before it!

ILiveInAPineapple · 13/08/2012 21:18

We have done, he isn't likely to turn down sex, and I actually find that an orgasm helps period pain. Got to be in the mood though, whether it's he time of the month or not.
I think 5 days is a long time to go without sex ask well, although currently its been about 15 weeks as DH is working away gagging for it so if I am on my period when he gets back, I expect we shall still jump on each other!

StanleyAccrington · 13/08/2012 21:19

i sometimes do, but am lucky enough to have light and pain-free periods

GothAnneGeddes · 13/08/2012 21:25

It is ok to like or dislike sexual acts. If your husband doesn't like it, you should respect that, rather then trying to talk him into it. To use the old M N cliche "imagine if the OP was a man saying this..."

anditwasallyellow · 13/08/2012 21:32

I agree if it was the other way round and you were saying 'aibu to not want to have sex while on' people would side with you.

It's personal preference although personally I sympathise with you.

I get a very sore stomach in the first few days so no then, but after that I don't mind it.

I don't think men should have to like it though. My xp did, and a bloke i was recently seeing didn't mind either, but i'd not be fussed if they said 'no way'.

Inneedofbrandy · 13/08/2012 21:47

A shag does stop the cramps better then a paracetamol Wink

CaliforniaLeaving · 13/08/2012 21:50

No, it's my time off and I cramp like hell so am not interested

TheQueenOfDiamonds · 13/08/2012 21:51

Nope. I think its disgusting. So does OH.

Aeryn · 13/08/2012 21:51

Inneedofbrandy You're not wrong! I cottoned on in my teens that an orgasm is the best painkiller there is. It totally eliminates it. Unfortunately only for as long as the orgasm lasts

KitCat26 · 13/08/2012 21:51

Dh isn't keen, but occasionally we have sex towards the end and its not so bad. Not at the beginning though, I'm crampy and cross.

I used to agree 5-7 days was ages OP. Throw in a 3 year old, an 18 month old and a DH that works every hour that god sends (and when he's not he's asleep on the sofa) and actually once a week would be fucking marvelous! Envy

Inneedofbrandy · 13/08/2012 21:54

Aeryn I find it stops it for the rest of the night, but your right totally eliminated.

blueglue · 13/08/2012 21:56

I do. Neither me nor dh care at all about a bit of blood and it is a good time to avoid pregnancy although we still use contraception. Put a dark coloured towel underneath if think leakage will occur!

NoSex · 13/08/2012 21:57

I have 2 dc and work pt :) I must just have a high sex drive.

I would never treat dh different or try to bribe him ect NO is no and I would not pressure the man I love into sex, my relationship is worth alot more.

OP posts:
anditwasallyellow · 13/08/2012 22:02

I can understand that people might avoid it due to pain or mess but why do people actually think it's disgusting?

Why on earth would you think that your periods are disgusting?
