To ask if you have sex when on a period

My dh will not have sex with me when i am on a period, I respect that it make him feel grossed out, but I am on for 5-7 days which is IMO a long time with out sex :(

Aibu to think a grown man should not be freaked out by a bit of blood

Personally not in the initial first days of a period when it's most uncomfortable and flow is heaviest & could understand if a man didn't want to either. It feels and might even smell different. But it's not gross.

NoSex · 13/08/2012 20:28

Well for me it's a long time

None of the partners I've had have ever even raised the topic.. Not been bothered at all. My dh wants sex all day every day regardless :) (not that we do much with 9 year old dd and 9 week old ds!!!) I don't see the problem... Its all natural but I suppose everyone's different. I couldn't do it straight after using a tampon though - its like trying to push a canal boat up the sahara desert after that!

Theala · 13/08/2012 20:34

it's not something that has posed a major problem over the years. Dp really doesn't care either way, so it's if I feel up to having sex or not. sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. same as at other times really.

50shadesofslapntickle · 13/08/2012 20:34

I find the intensity heightened when on a period - it's nice!

ChunkysMum · 13/08/2012 20:35

Canal boat up the Sahara Desert Grin

That's why you've just lubricated said canal boat with oral.

kali110 · 13/08/2012 20:37

i think its up too the people involved.i never have or would as i would feel gross, but thats just my opinion

Binkyridesagain · 13/08/2012 20:38

Sex is the last thing on my mind, making sure I can get a couple of hours decent sleep before I have to do a high speed sprint to the bathroom is my priority.
Doubled up sanitary wear, cramping, migraine and BIG knickers doesn't really put me or DH in the mood

VinoEsmeralda · 13/08/2012 20:39

agree with 50shades but DH not always keen

picnicbasketcase · 13/08/2012 20:39

No. Grim.

Sariah · 13/08/2012 20:40

I enjoy sex during my period and it doesnt bother dh either.

ImpatientOne · 13/08/2012 20:42

I have been with DH for about 5 years and we have but only recently - partly because a lot of the time I've been on the pill and didn't have periods! When we were first together and did nothing but shag I wore tampons and did hands & oral.

We still generally avoid it but recently I have been having long light periods - over a week - so we have done it and it's been fine.

With a previous partner I did but we always used condoms anyway so it wasn't that 'messy' when I was on - it was a long distance relationship so not much stopped us Blush

ModreB · 13/08/2012 20:43

I have but not until the pinky days IYSWIM. But then until I had a Mirena fitted my periods could last 2 - 3 weeks.

perceptionreality · 13/08/2012 20:45

I don't mind and I have done - I have light periods though. My dp doesn't like it because he says blood reminds him of when he's had a fight(??)

catgirl2012 · 13/08/2012 20:46

No. Although I have in the past

At my behest more than his though.

dementedma · 13/08/2012 20:46

No way. Its a blessed relief from being pestered so I pretend it lasts longer than it actually does!

Pantah630 · 13/08/2012 20:47

I'm always hornier when on, pretty sure my DH is too. It's never bothered him or any previous partners, can be messy but it's quite natural. Some people are easily squicked by bodily functions, others aren't..c'est la vie, hopefully most of us are matched accordingly Smile

cece · 13/08/2012 20:48

Not for me or dh thankfully.

perceptionreality · 13/08/2012 20:49

lol dementedma!

DesperatelySeekingSedatives · 13/08/2012 20:50

Never liked the idea. I am not at my most turned on when I am bloated, spotty and leaking blood out my fanny. And I have to be turned on to have sex, I think that's fair.

If your DH doesn't want to have sex while you are bleeding is that so bad? Would you actually enjoy sex if you knew that the person having sex with you actually wasn't enjoying themselves?

YellowWellies · 13/08/2012 20:51

I'm the same OP! As a friend of mine once wisely opined 'It's cool to swim in Red Sea, just don't drink from it!' - that's the rule we tend to stick by :)

spoonsspoonsspoons · 13/08/2012 20:51

OH wouldn't be bothered either way. Heavy periods and v.low cervix make penetration out of the question for me though. (during periods that is, cervix disappears somewhere else the rest of the month Confused)

BarredfromhavingStella · 13/08/2012 20:52

No I haven't, just don't like the thought.

Also, it's not 'just a bit of blood' is it really?? Tends to be a bit on the clotted side I find so hardly a turn on eh? Hmm
