I've been on longer train journeys natch. No one plans for them.
Us flying STILL really seen as chic ? Do people believe those stupid articles about changing into cashmere track suits apply for an easy jet to Malaga ?

Plus don't get me started on capsule wardrobes.

Yes you just wear jeans & Tshirt and take cardi

Simple!

sadie3 · 13/08/2012 19:46

The airport is my runway, I wear sky high laboutens(sp) a mini dress and baby on my arm, Oh and a massive bag and sunglasses!!

Yummymummyyobe1 · 13/08/2012 20:23

sadie3 a lady after my own heart, just before touch down I will change from my flight outfit into (pre DS):

Skinny Dark Jeans
White T Shirt
Blazer
my louboutin pumps/boots
large tote
Huge sunglasses
big bag
a dab of no5

In the future it will have to be my Laboutin flats as will have DS1.

When I was a child my mum always made us change just before we landed at our destination so that we were dressed appropriately.

It always came in particularly handy when we delayed due to French or Spanish air traffic controller strikes when we needed to make cushions to lean our heads on after hour after hour in Malaga/Alicante/Palma airport.

When I was 18 going on my first holiday with my now DH I took a change of clothes in my bag which he thought was hilarious! So I stopped doing it.

Then I was delayed 36 hours between connecting flights with just a complementary toothbrush and had to wash my bra in the sink (thankfully I had x2 spare knickers). Doh!

Now my bag is similar to yummy whenever I fly.

eurochick · 13/08/2012 20:39

I think the big bag was a given yummy given the handluggage list you previously posted...

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 13/08/2012 20:41

Envy of having the option of wearing Louboutin heels or flats. I'm working Primark most of the time.

AnnaRack · 13/08/2012 22:05

Actually I do plan what im going to wear for a 4 hour train journey! All my luggage for 4 days has to fit into an overnight bag (that I can carry to and from the station) so every item counts, i have to wear stuff that goes with other stuff so everything gets worn and no precious bag space is wasted.
So yes, I can see why people might plan their outfits to wear on the plane as baggage allowances are limited. Why on earth shoudn't they? It's all part of the excitement of going on holiday wish i was going abroad Envy

TheSurgeonsMate · 13/08/2012 22:16

I am packing just now Sad. I'm not planning outfits. I seem to have lost all my wardrobe. What it's coming down to is, I'm just packing all my non wooly clothes.

I am planning my "car" outfit, though. What I'm doing there is clever. I'll wear my grubbiest thing, and then not wear it again while I'm on holiday, but put it on for the drive back.

BranchingOut · 13/08/2012 22:20

I am always a bit Hmm at the idea of getting changed on the plane.

In the plane loos? Really?

There hardly seems space to swing a small muppet, let alone a cat. Let alone not wanting any part of myself or clothing to come into contact with the loo.

However, I do take a pashmina Grin. Then again, I take a pashmina everywhere because I am still stuck in the 90s.

AnnaRack · 13/08/2012 22:26

Me too, branching. And the thought of the queue building up outside while you struggle out of your yoga trousers and inbto your dark skinnies ...

Kayano · 13/08/2012 22:35

I get dressed up for flying but only because my big heels are heavy and better on my feet than my luggage allowance IMO

Don't understand your upset tbh, no one else's business

Kayano · 13/08/2012 22:36

I only found out what a pashmina was in June. I was all 'wtf? We don't have those up north?'

Apparently we do though lol

squeakytoy · 13/08/2012 22:43

dear god.. I have flown numerous trans-atlantic flights and never felt the need to have a change of outfit mid-air. I wear comfy clothes, shoes that are easy to slip on and off, and couldnt give a toss who sees me when I get off the plane at my destination!

icecold · 13/08/2012 22:59

Just thought I'd come on to your thread to pointlessly say I have no clue what anyone of you are talking about (thank god I think)

Natch is an alcoholic, apple-based beverage Confused

What the flippin eck is a capsule wardrobe?

Cashmere?? Why so much cashmere? Who has cashmere?

Hand luggage= toothbrush and paste, camera, money, passport, bottle of water, clean pants...

Why and how do you even notice/care whatvother people are wearing on the plane?

icecold · 13/08/2012 23:04

Also, what's a travel candle?

TheSurgeonsMate · 13/08/2012 23:10

I imagine it has safety features, icecold. Anti-self lighting in the luggage type arrangement.

TastesLikePanda · 13/08/2012 23:19

Am I the only person who finds planes unbearably hot then? I planned my outfit for my last transatlantic flight so that I wouldn't overheat... comfiest cotton bottoms and big loose top (plus long cotton skirt to change into on plane to 'let the air flow free'

Plus I am a bit of a porker though so maybe that's why I'm hot they turn the heat up on night flights so we all go to sleep.

icecold · 13/08/2012 23:23

But, why are you taking a candle on holiday?? Citronella?

waterlego6064 · 13/08/2012 23:38

Where TF did the word 'tote' come from? It's a bag, isn't it? Or is it something else?

I'm with you OP. Skirt/shorts, vest top. Long-sleeved top in hand luggage. Easy. Snacks are far more important than clothing in hand luggage, IMO.

TellyBug · 13/08/2012 23:47

No one ever mentions the fabric of their socks unless it's cashmere. Odd.

Wandawingsthe2nd · 14/08/2012 00:07

Makes note to pack a tea light in hand luggage

somedayma · 14/08/2012 01:58

wtf even is this thread

StuntGirl · 14/08/2012 02:26

^^ This.

Pandemoniaa · 14/08/2012 02:37

Yummymummy your hand luggage must be massive

There's always someone on every flight I take whose hand luggage is so mahoosive that the rest of us can't get our sensibly sized bags in the overhead lockers.

What makes it worse is that everyone who takes a Polar Exploration's worth of hand baggage into the cabin always manage to nab the overhead locker space first. Thus leaving everyone else to struggle while they are comfortably sat down swathed in their flippin' pashminas spritzing themselves.

doinmummy · 14/08/2012 02:38

Had a very long conversation with DD14 about what we should wear on flight next week (convo was started by her) I would be happy in jeans and a T shirt . She said jeans were ok but could I wear the 'top that doesn't make you look frumpy'.
