I don't understand (bar finances and even then not really an excuse) why some women when they become parents, out goes the stylish clothes, in comes Tesco mummy jeans!

Out goes the decent hair cut/colour, in comes uncombed hair.

There is NO excuse (apart from depression before the righteous mafia comes for my neck, haha.

Seriously it really bugs me.

OP posts:
MildredIsMyAlterEgo · 10/08/2012 09:05

Is this for real? I'm guessing not. (but if it is then clearly the OP is a bit of a twat)

HexagonalQueenOfEveything · 10/08/2012 09:05

As usual I see the professionally offended have leapt on to make comments! Why comment on a thread if it offends you so much? Jeez

OP, I agree with you. I think it's a real shame when someone who has previously been quite attractive and dressed well just stops making any effort at all. I know I feel far better and more confident if I am dressed nicely, with a bit of make up on and my hair done. It doesn't have to cost the earth; I buy clothes from Primark, Ebay, H&M, occasionally topshop. I don't get my hair highlighted and cut that often as it's a time issue for me but hopefully once DS is at school I will have a bit more time for that kind of thing. I always wear make up each day too.

What I find frustrating is the attitude from some people that you shouldn't bother with yourself if you have children, and that it's shallow and vain to do so. When I was pregnant with DD1 my mother suggested countless times that I had my hair cut very short into a crop. My hair was shoulder length at the time! She kept saying 'it'll be easier to manage' as if no one in the world can ever find time to dry and style their hair if they have a child.

Megatron · 10/08/2012 09:05

I agree 'thank God for mums' Buba

Mine taught me to speak French and Italian, how to canoe and how to open a wine bottle with a wooden spoon in the absence of a bottle opener. Amazing life skills.

confusedpixie · 10/08/2012 09:07

Tesco jeans: Check
Scruffy Hair: Sort of check (bog standard pony tail!)
Uncut Hair: Check (hasn't been cut in two years)

Ever been 'stylish': No.
Ever worn makeup: No.
Have kids: No.

Couldn't give a toss about 'stylishness' unless I really have too (and then it's my only pair of black trousers and a nicer top), I'd rather dress comfortably. YABVU.

Binkyridesagain · 10/08/2012 09:08

Quit the hero worship, you're making me blushSmile

As for the green tone, there are limitations to photoshop, but her make up artist should be able to do something, i'm think along the lines if The Joker in Batman, green tones and arsehole covered very simply but effectively

DillyTante · 10/08/2012 09:09

What a pile of crap of an OP. What an insidious attitude. Hair dye, expensive clothes and full make up aren't compulsory you know. It makes me really cross that there are people who judge those who have better thinks to do with their time and money.

Maybe after having kids they realise there is more to life and more important things to worry about than trying to impress superficial fuckwits.

Yeah I sometimes wear make, often I don't. I never want people who see me without make think I look completely unlike me, or think I look ill.

I can't believe there are people out there with this attitude.

Megatron · 10/08/2012 09:09

Hexagonal what I find frustrating the the attitude that it's OK to criticise other people for what they wear. (tesco jeans? oh the horror! Hmm) I like to look after myself but it's not my first priority.

GimmieChocolate · 10/08/2012 09:10

Megatron... I need to know how the hell you open a bottle of wine with a wooden spoon! Like RIGHT NOW!!

DillyTante · 10/08/2012 09:11

'I find that some (before u get narky) mums that don't wear makeup can be really rude to those that do!'

How ironic to say that on this thread Bubalou Hmm

alistron1 · 10/08/2012 09:12

I can open a bottle of wine using a toothbrush and a sturdy boot. However with the rise of the screwtop bottle such skills are not needed, leaving me more time to put make up on.

Scrounginscum · 10/08/2012 09:15

If looking at them upsets you so much don't look. Problem solved.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 10/08/2012 09:16

It's so good to know that, although if I become a mum there will be NO EXCUSE (and I do hope I will get a sticker chart and black marks to put beside it), right now I am childless and therefore, I assume, absolutely fine in my tatty jeans, lack of hair dye and makeup, with my furry legs and in a - sorry - Sainsbury's T-shirt?

I scrub up nice when I want to and when I don't, you can like it, look the other way, or fuck off. Smile

MrsBucketxx · 10/08/2012 09:17

OP would have loved me yesterday with a vest top with bra straps showing, no make up, hair scraped back and trackie bottoms shopping in aldi (i needed nappies) Grin

i seriously couldnt give a crap what people thought. i do make an effort when i need too. especially on a weekend when dh is home and we go out for the day as a family.

i have two small dc it does change your priorities, op clearly has no children, i would like to see if she thinks the same in a few years when she has too.

BonkeyHasGOLDMollocks · 10/08/2012 09:17

Are you the same poster who wanted her bridemaiss to lose weight before your wedding because you didn't want 'ugly pictures'?

Either way Biscuit .

Scrounginscum · 10/08/2012 09:17

What do you mean finances aren't an excuse. So if you had enough money to either feed your DC or get your hair done, what would you do? I know what I choose.

Mintyy · 10/08/2012 09:18

Am happy to be deleted for saying that op you are a fucking idiot.

MaryHansack · 10/08/2012 09:18

I need to know how the hell you open a bottle of wine with a wooden spoon!
use the handle of it to shove the cork down into the wine.
and for the OP...Biscuit

Kaloobear · 10/08/2012 09:19

I do wear make up and dress nicely (I think) but I do it because I enjoy it, not to make my husband or other women happy. I don't give a crap what other people look like. Why would I?! So it's fair enough to want to look nice for yourself OP but why you think it's ok to judge other people about their own choices is beyond me. And besides, without interviewing them about their morning routine how do you know that they haven't put in any effort? I've seen a few of your threads and they're always obnoxious.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 10/08/2012 09:20

Aw, I love it when there's a thread like this where we just all come together. Truly, it's cathartic. Smile

I know the wooden spoon thing, btw, but don't ever let a slightly pissed bloke tell you he knows how to open a bottle by smashing the top off in the 'right' place. Even being 19 does not excluse that, Nick. No, it does not.

Mintyy · 10/08/2012 09:22

As usual, I agree with usualsuspect.

Op is goading. What a stupid way to spend your Friday evening.

MrsBucketxx · 10/08/2012 09:22

doesnt that cork the wine and make it taste like poo?

rainydaysarebad · 10/08/2012 09:23

I have asda skinny jeans - is that on par with tesco mummy jeans? I've also not had a haircut since December (before DS was born) and I haven't had my eyebrows threaded since May this year.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 10/08/2012 09:23

Corked wine is when it's gone off, it doesn't mean when it has cork in it. If the cork is one of those charming, cheapie plastic ones, it doesn't make any difference; if it's crumbly cork you fish it out.

bubalou · 10/08/2012 09:24

dilytant I was just stating a different side. As I clearly said I don't give a shit either way.

I have however experienced comments from mums that don't wear make up. I don't even wear a lot - just the basics. I think the bottom line is - I don't give a shit if other mums wear it or not. I'm actually jealous of people that can go out & look good without make up - I am not lucky enough to be blessed in this way, due to my hideous face Grin

wankpants · 10/08/2012 09:25

As usual I see the professionally offended have leapt on to make comments!
