To think that no one will ever vote conservative again

At least in anyone in living memory of the current government and their immoral targeting of the most vulnerable members of society.
I voted conservative at the last election to my eternal shame, I won't make the same mistake twice.

You should live in a country where about 200 of your monthly earnings go towards medical insurance. Then about 300 goes towards each child in school for 18 years - NOT only nursery. Then you pay about 1000 towards a car because there is no or limited public transport.

The only benefit you can claim is if you have been redundant and it's 24% of your salary. And you can only claim that for 6 months.

YES. You have EVERY opportunity to better yourself and grow and develop. This country is very literally a land of opportunity.

Gatorade · 09/08/2012 10:45

Other than those at the very top of the bank I can assure you that 'babkers* need to making a healthy profit/helping their department make money to get a good bonus. And the tax that is paid on a £100k plus bonus is great for the economy, bankers pay more tax into the system on bonuses then lower earners pay in a whole year. Stopping bonuses is not necessarily the answer (maybe looking into how they are done to encourage longer term goals but not wiping them out).

KickTheGuru · 09/08/2012 10:45

OH and you can only get a student loan if you're in the top 5% of the country for your results at 18 years old

Which most people can't get if they can't afford a decent school.

Sheesh

usualsuspect · 09/08/2012 10:45

As I said, I can see why you vote conservative.

LAlady · 09/08/2012 10:45

I've voted Lib Dem, Labour in the past. Last time Conservative and next time the same. No way will I vote Labour again and Lib Dems are a waste.

KickTheGuru · 09/08/2012 10:46

My offer for a crash course in Economics still stands though Grin

KickTheGuru · 09/08/2012 10:47

Thanks usual :)

usualsuspect · 09/08/2012 10:50

You could give lessons in 'I'm alright Jack'

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 09/08/2012 10:53

People who say their parents/grandparents would never vote for a particular party, or always voted for one, aren't now voting for the same parties though. The face of politics has changed over the years, Labour and the Tories are much closer now than they ever were - Cameron, Miliband, what on earth do they call that clone bloke the Lib Dem? well him too, they are all the same. There's nothing to choose between them. None of them have ever had a real job or worked for their living, they are all rich and cushioned from real life, they are almost to a man figure of speech don't start Grin public school educated - wasn't Brown the first PM EVER not to have been to Oxbridge? They are all the same, and want the same thing, they just have slightly different ways of getting it, lots of which would, if left unchecked, run the country even further into the ground. None of them actually give a shit for the "little people" they have their noses in the trough and their eye on the money, either in Europe like Mandelson or on the lecture circuit like Blair.

Prarieflower · 09/08/2012 10:54

Pom sadly I think you're right,so who will you vote for?

Mrbojangles1 · 09/08/2012 10:55

Kayano people who choose not to work are not vunrable just lazy and i dont want to pay another penny towards them there are people who are in real need to if your really think the millions that are on benfit at the moment all cant find work and are looking daily for work your crazy

And this thing about tories being toffs is getting reallly really old the left act as if the labour front bench is made up people who were stright out of the getto or have had reall tuff lives most are grammer school brats or the product of private school

In my eyes their was only really one decent labour did and that was family tax credit

LackingNameChangeInspiration · 09/08/2012 10:57

yeah but people who say they'll never vote conservative again will vote labour again - which is the SAME THING! they are the same good-cop/bad-cop team! I mean dur, most of the bad things we're now associating with this gov were eithr in the pipeline or already set in stone by labour.. all ready for the bad cop to come in and finish off!

Sonnet · 09/08/2012 10:58

To think that no one will ever vote conservative again what a sweeping generalisation Biscuit

Kayano · 09/08/2012 10:58

Ive worked in a bank as one of the lowly workers and you work your bloody arse off and get nowt. I didn't get any bonus or pay rise for 3 years, but you know the middle men and those high up got bonuses for getting a loss or breaking even. It's not them that suffer...

CrispyCod · 09/08/2012 10:58

I would vote Conservative again. Although it will be a tough choice between them and UKIP.

Me too.

Tressy · 09/08/2012 10:59

I will never vote for them or Lib Dem again. So that leaves me a labour voter through and through for the future.

If I have to pay astronomical tax that is still being taken off us whether directly or indirectly if I receive a decent service from the NHS, Welfare State when I need to (god forbid I don't). I object to paying around 60% of my income back to this shower and I cannot even get treatment via the NHS to prevent my teeth dropping out unless I shell out a fortune in private dental bills. I object that my DC won't be able to get a decent education unless she foots an even bigger tax bill all her working life.

I would prefer a government that distributes our taxes to the most needy rather than keeping the rich richer.

I don't know for sure prairie where I live is a staunch Labour area (Hartlepool) we have never had a not Labour MP since the Labour party was founded, but I never vote for them. The thing with the Tory candidate though, and we do usually have one, is that because they "know" they won't win, they send a youngster with no hope and it feels like a wasted vote. I have voted UKIP in the past, when we've had a candidate and would probably do so again if one stood. I firmly believe we should be out of the EU so can vote for that, rather than picking one at random in order to vote against iyswim.

Sonnet · 09/08/2012 11:00

Mrbojangles1 sorry that left our family worse off unless, of course, I was to reduce the hours I worked and the money I earnt and then get a top up of Tony/Gordon. How can that ever be a sensible option?

SofaKing · 09/08/2012 11:00

During the Thatcherite years, housing stock was sold off, telephone networks, post office, a host of national assets, to cover the losses from the recession. Now there are no assets left, and the country had to borrow more to pay housing benefit to private ll and other consequences of selling infrastructure. So the welfare budget has to be reduced to meet expenses. This will cause another recession (already 2 years of no growth), as civil servants are sacked and the disposable income of households plummets the economy cannot grow when money is not being circulated.

If labour do get back into power, I do not see what they can do. The country will be at breaking point, shrinking economy, high unemployment and widespread poverty, and our ability to borrow will be damaged because as our economy worsens, so does our credit rating. I cannot see how the consequences of the disastrous austerity measures will be fixed in our lifetime.

I think most Tory voters do so because they trust them to manage the economy. In truth, they cannot do so at all. They blame current problems on Labour (even though they backed bank deregulation in the 90s) and now they are blaming the failure of austerity on Europe. If they don't understand what's broken how can they fix it?

Sonnet · 09/08/2012 11:01

As I use to say many years ago - "I can't afford Tony!"

NurseBernard · 09/08/2012 11:01

Of course people will vote Tory again - what a silly thread.

Kayano · 09/08/2012 11:02

I'm not crazy and you are rude. When the actual fuck have I mentioned people who 'choose not to work'?

I've mentioned my vulnerable cousin at one point, I've mentioned that I think there is a bit of unfairness in how unaffected the bankers seem to be compared to vulnerable elderly and disabled people.

So you can shove your 'crazy' comment up your arse

WelshMaenad · 09/08/2012 11:07

Sod Vince Cable, I want to put Tim Farron in charge, he's awesome.

As a lib dem, I will still be voting lib dem, if I didn't have that option I would spoil my ballot before voting Tory OR Labour. If Labour get back in at the next election, I'm emigrating.

Incidentally, don't think Ed 'Where's Grommit?' Milliband is in charge during a party lull for no good reason? Why waste the better brother whilst they aren't in power? Davey boy will be in there the minute it looks like they're ready to rake the reins back.

Hammy02 · 09/08/2012 11:11

Until we get to a stage where you are never ever better off being out of work than in work, I won't believe the tories have gone far enough. I'm fed up of seeing people in houses that I couldn't afford yet I work and they don't. It is so fucked up.
