To think that no one will ever vote conservative again

At least in anyone in living memory of the current government and their immoral targeting of the most vulnerable members of society.
I voted conservative at the last election to my eternal shame, I won't make the same mistake twice.

Never have never will.

But there will be plenty out there who are delighted with every foul thing they have done, and will always vote tory.

Prarieflower · 09/08/2012 10:24

The NHS is a huge issue for me and an awful lot of other people in the country. It's going to slide further into the shit,be dismantled more before the next election.

Seriously think the Tories are going to massively regret what they've done.Don't think they have any idea how much it's valued by the nation or how when push comes to shove people will stand up for it.An awful lot of voters have always had the NHS and been able to rely on it,the more people being let down in the next couple of years the more having the beejeezers scared out of them the more who will vote accordingly.

I just had to go private recently and after moaning to my consultant he said it was only the beginning and things are going to get a whole lot worse. He seemed very sad.

RubyFakeNails · 09/08/2012 10:25

People will vote conservative. I know lots of middle class people who havent been harmed and dont relate with poor or vulnerable people. But I won't be, not that I ever have. I couldn't in good conscience vote for Labour last election which was hard as I've always been loyal to them.

I can guarantee the Liberal Democrats will not get any power for at least the next 50 years. I voted for them, based on tuition fees as I've always struggled to understand what the party was about but felt that was something that would really help my dc and us in our old age (no uni debts as parents of for the children). Fuck me, NEVER AGAIN. They won the votes of many young people who they've now betrayed and those voters will not forget so as long as the current youth generation are alive I doubt they will make any further progress without radical changes.

This time dh and I will be voting green. All the others are power hungry little careerists, even Milliband, the thing with his brother, the fact both of them are in politics makes me think it's just for the power, competition and it's sort of the hobby of the family. I would like to see him introduce some really strong policies before I could even contemplate it again.

Nancy66 · 09/08/2012 10:26

I can't see an electorate voting for Ed Milliband

Viviennemary · 09/08/2012 10:27

I think it's more likely that a lot won't vote Lib Dem again. Because what's the point. They will just join up with another party and tear up their manifesto like they did this time. I wouldn't ever vote for them again though I have done sometimes in the past. I think a lot of people do agree with some of the things the Tory have brought it.

Kayano · 09/08/2012 10:28

Any one who does vote Tory does make me lose respect for them tbh. I just think 'well you really don't care about others then'

May not be true but I see a Tory vote as either a selfish vote or a Murdoch influenced vote.

And my dad votes Tory! We watched question time together once and didn't speak for a week.

I of course (biased) blame Cameron for that as well GrinWink

Bonsoir · 09/08/2012 10:30

Conservatives do care about others. It is is Labour that borrowed excessively and will pass on the debt to future generations.

Kayano · 09/08/2012 10:33

And are trying to fix it by screwing over vulnerable people and not the bankers.... Hmm

They care about money/ the wealthy

throckenholt · 09/08/2012 10:35

Nice fantasy, sadly not likely to happen. Too many entrenched conservative voters in this country, particularly in the shires.

RubyFakeNails · 09/08/2012 10:35

Completely agree nancy I'm from a family of labour voters (in London) and most of my family have been involved in socialist and communist groups. We should all love Milliband, but not one of us wants to vote for him. We're all going to the Green party.

KickTheGuru · 09/08/2012 10:35

I agree about the NHS privatisation issue. BUT - there are just too many people on benefits, too much going into NHS and there isn't enough coming in. The idea that the "rich carry the poor" is already in place. Someone on minimum wage versus someone earning 50K a year - who contributes more to taxes?

Like for like, people in higher earning brackets pay more taxes and they are already carrying the poor because those taxes go towards benefits and NHS.

While there are a large number of people who abuse that system (look at the new company structure to stop paying sick leave in the first 2 years - that's not "greedy commercialism" - it's because the majority of workers claim "stress" and get booked off for 2 months!), they will always need to find ways to pull back on spending.

I do not for one single minute begrudge what high-earners are paid and for that reason ALONE, I vote Tory. Because we all have the same opportunities to push on through life and better ourselves.

The UK economy has been structured so that no one "can't afford" to go to school or university or to travel or live or have a home or children and yet its' citizens can't see the benefits that they receive from all that they get. I could be wrong, but VERY few countries in the world offer "free" and "benefits" as much as the UK and somewhere, that is going to have to stop.

Because you can't unfortunately believe that anyone who earns more than you should have a financial obligation to carry you. Where is the dignity in that? I started on minimum wage when I left university and I ploughed my way through life and fought to hit a salary now where I potentially earn slightly above the London average. What makes me different? Drive? Determination? Pride?

Gatorade · 09/08/2012 10:37

Tired of banker bashing, you may lose respect for those who vote Conservative Kanyo but I lose respect for those who try to blame everything on bankers

Prarieflower · 09/08/2012 10:37

My parents were Tories, mum has switched. We've had some lovely family discussions, she really goes for it now!!!!!!GrinDad wavering. He's livid about seeing his kids/grandkids in the middle shat on time and time again. The NHS will be the final push for him imvho.

Kayano · 09/08/2012 10:38

Sorry, did you just say that the majority of workers get signed off with 'stress' and are off for two months?!?!

Did you really just say that?

Gatorade · 09/08/2012 10:38

Good post Guru

KickTheGuru · 09/08/2012 10:39

Yeh and think about where your pensions are sitting... With the bankers.

Pay them peanuts, get monkeys and then let's see your pensions.

usualsuspect · 09/08/2012 10:39

If you think that we all have the same opportunities to push through life and better ourselves. I can see why you vote conservative.

I'm alright Jack.

KickTheGuru · 09/08/2012 10:40

Pardon should have read "majority of working who claim "stress"..."

But I can see where your indignation lies... Hmm

Prarieflower · 09/08/2012 10:41

Errrr we pay them a fortune, have greedy monkeys and all our pensions are in the shit.

Gatorade · 09/08/2012 10:41

usual with free education to 18 most (not all) do have the opportunity to push through and better themselves.

Kayano · 09/08/2012 10:41

I don't blame everything on the bankers, I've not said that. What I don't like is that they seem hugely unaffected and it is disproportionate.

There are still huge bonuses in place for them, their tax rate has actually been cut.

Meanwhile my epileptic cousin is having to jump through hoops just to survive as she doesn't have enough fits a year...

It's not even at all

Thumbwitch · 09/08/2012 10:42

Sadly, YABU. There will always be too many people who are of the "I'm all right Jack, sod anyone else" persuasion. As you can see.

usualsuspect · 09/08/2012 10:43

You keep believing that if it makes you feel better.

londonone · 09/08/2012 10:43

I voted tory and will continue to do so. Until they started talking about the benefit reforms I genuinely had no idea how much money people get in benefits, it is truly horrifying.. They are the only party that may conceivably at some point offer me a tax cut. I have concerns about some of the disability benefits reforms but on the other hand I think that the amount of people receiving those benefits has increased far too much.

usualsuspect · 09/08/2012 10:43

That was to Gatorade
