to let an obviously poorly DS (6) still go to the Olympics?

DS has been so excited about to going to the Olympics all year (he's written stories about it, made a countdown calendar, sleeps with his Wenlock toy, boasted to anyone who'll listen - typical 6 year old over excitement) and at bedtime whispered to me that it was going to be the best day of his life!

Unfortunately not long after then twice more in the night & again this morning, he's had his head in the toilet being sick. Initially I thought it was just over excitement but 4 times in one night must be a bug (family macaroni cheese is definitely not the culprit). Of course he swears blind he's fine despite clearly not being right BUT I just don't have the heart to say he can't go Sad DH is still ok about taking him & thinks he can't miss this once in a lifetime opportunity but AIBU & should I make his stay at home?

So he can go infect lots of people just so he doesn't miss out?

YABU
If he is ill keep him at home for gods sake

Is he not maybe sick with excitement? My DSis was like that every holiday and Christmas when we were little.

EmilieFloge · 09/08/2012 07:58

It sounds like it will be a very difficult thing to accomplish tbh...is there anyone you can swap tickets with for another day? On here perhaps?

I really would not take a vomming child anywhere, it won't be much fun for him if he is poorly anyway, and no one else there will thank you for it.

Megatron · 09/08/2012 07:58

Sick once or twice I would think excitement but 4 times? I'm afaid he's just going to spread this bug around all and sundry.

JeezyPeeps · 09/08/2012 07:59

When you say he's clearly not right, is that because he's been sick, or are there other symptoms?

Has he been in contact with anyone that's had a bug?

This will be the most excited he's likely to have been. My son was like that the first year he really understood what Christmas was going to be like.

NigellaTufnel · 09/08/2012 08:00

YABU! How many people could he infect?!

You have no idea the damage something like thus could do. If he spreads it around on the tube, in the venue, or else where.

People could miss flights, holidays, for goodness sake he could even infect some one who could come in contact with a competitor.

Man up.

YouOldSlag · 09/08/2012 08:03

If you wouldn't send him to school like this then don't send him to the Olympics.

It might upset him not to go, so plan something nice for when he's better, but don't give in.

Four times is a not a one off excitement thing.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/08/2012 08:03

Would your DH think it is ok when he is sick while sitting in the stand..as that will happen :( poor wee boy, what a shame!

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 09/08/2012 08:03

My sister was always like this before every birthday/holiday/christmas when we were kids, she missed so many parties and school plays because of it, are you sure he's ill and not excited?

MrsKeithRichards · 09/08/2012 08:03

Nigella we're talking about a poorly boy who may or may not have a bug, not some crazed terrorist with a plan to launch biological warfare on London and bring down the Olympics.

Perspective. Gain some.

JeezyPeeps · 09/08/2012 08:05

Oh believe me, four times can be an excitement thing! Maybe it's not common, but it can happen.

JumpingThroughHoops · 09/08/2012 08:06

What time do you have to leave?

I'd take him, if he chucks on the train, bring him home.

Don't feed him , then he's got nothing to chuck up.

Problem solved Grin

MrsKeithRichards · 09/08/2012 08:07

I have a grown up cousin who is still sick with excitement several times before a night out! She was the same as a child.

pinkyp · 09/08/2012 08:07

Poor ds but definately would NOT take him. What if he starts again when he's there? Not to mention all people he'll infect- preganant ladies / old ppl / other children. It's not fair for ur ds to miss out but it's not fair to potentially make so many people Ill so he doesn't

MrsKeithRichards · 09/08/2012 08:08

I would take him and see how it goes. I'd place money on him not up chucking for the rest of the day!

JumpingThroughHoops · 09/08/2012 08:09

Food poisoning isnt infectious.

it is more than likely food poisoning (which usually takes 48 hours to manifest) not the bloody ebola virus

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/08/2012 08:09

it is much more likely to be norovirus than food poisoning IMO.

EasilyBored · 09/08/2012 08:09

It's a once in a lifetime opportunity, I would let him go but if he gets more poorly then he can come home.

He's got a tummy bug, it's not the black plague ffs.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/08/2012 08:10

however I wouldn't not take him for fear he is like a dangerous human biological weapon, just because it would be a nightmare if he threw up everywhere while sitting spectating.

JumpingThroughHoops · 09/08/2012 08:10

In keeping with sympathy - DH says "I'll have your tickets"

The boy has to to to the games.

Petsinmyolympicpudenda · 09/08/2012 08:11

Its going to be lovely for the people around him to spend their day having a child vomit right next to them all day.

MrsKeithRichards · 09/08/2012 08:12

I'm assuming he isn't going to be licking the elderly or pregnant in the crowd?

I think it's a shame to make him miss out when it could be nothing. If he feels and appears well just head out and enjoy your day. Imagine missing out for no reason.

JumpingThroughHoops · 09/08/2012 08:13

Snorts hysterically @ licking the elderly

seeker · 09/08/2012 08:13

How long is the journey? When do you have to set off?
