to let an obviously poorly DS (6) still go to the Olympics?

DS has been so excited about to going to the Olympics all year (he's written stories about it, made a countdown calendar, sleeps with his Wenlock toy, boasted to anyone who'll listen - typical 6 year old over excitement) and at bedtime whispered to me that it was going to be the best day of his life!

Unfortunately not long after then twice more in the night & again this morning, he's had his head in the toilet being sick. Initially I thought it was just over excitement but 4 times in one night must be a bug (family macaroni cheese is definitely not the culprit). Of course he swears blind he's fine despite clearly not being right BUT I just don't have the heart to say he can't go Sad DH is still ok about taking him & thinks he can't miss this once in a lifetime opportunity but AIBU & should I make his stay at home?

He whispered 'it'll be the best day of my life' - you couldn't take that away for something that might have been a problem. Not when there was a good chance he'd just eaten something and got it out of his system.

I would have done the same OP - glad it went well. :)

Apparently there's already 38 cases of infectious acute hysteria being reported in the Olympic Park...
Events may be cancelled tomorrow.

SauvignonBlanche · 09/08/2012 21:26

Delighted to hear that OP. Grin

I am sure if the OP's had chucked up over the 4 rows in front of him, the OP wouldn't have been back at all.

Glad he a lovely day OP. It will be a day to remember for a very long time to come.

BigBoobiedBertha · 09/08/2012 21:36

The OP's DS... that should be. I don't think the OP has caught it yet! Wink

PeppermintCreams · 09/08/2012 21:38

I would have taken him too, and played it by ear. Blush

Glad he had a good day.

crashdoll · 09/08/2012 21:40

Good health isn't a god given right. I hope none of you ever end up with illnesses that mean a simple stomach bug could floor you for weeks.

JumpingThroughHoops · 09/08/2012 21:42

Excellent news Op - would have been more fun if he'd licked some elderly people though sigh and spectacularly vomited over 4 rows of spectators.

I look forward to the London news announcing the ebola virus has taken hold and police are hunting down a pale 6yo in conjunction with an outbreak of excitement causing the capital to come to a standstill.

Prise be you didn't succumb to mass hysteria Grin

LookBehindYou · 09/08/2012 21:44

Well you are all treating this as a joke but in fact extra security staff have been drafted in to look out for stealth lickers hanging around outside the atheletes quarters.

JumpingThroughHoops · 09/08/2012 21:46

giggles someone licked the Jamiacan girls relay team - they couldnt hand a batton over for love nor money tonight

crashdoll · 09/08/2012 21:46

Like I said, some people take good health for granted. Of course some people are just complete fuckwits idiots who think it's a ok to have a good old joke at some of the genuine issues people face everyday.

boohoohooshouldhavewongold · 09/08/2012 21:47

Yay, glad he had a good day OP.

LookBehindYou · 09/08/2012 21:49

Crashdoll you are the idiot for making the huge assumption that all those in favour of the boy going are in good health.

EightiesOlympicGolds · 09/08/2012 21:51

crashdoll - I don't take good health for granted, and have been immuno suppressed myself in the past. And I still think it was right to go. Not only can I assess risk and accept the consequences, I know that life is short and the joy of occasions like this is to be treasured.

crashdoll · 09/08/2012 21:52

Then, you would understand how fucking horrible it is to be immunosuppressed and have to evaluate everything to do.

JumpingThroughHoops · 09/08/2012 21:52

I would point out to all the naysayers - the lad wasn't diagnosed with anything other than 'being a bit off' ...... no novovirus, no V&D, no bugs, nil, nada, zilch

Excitement.

hands some bubblewrap over

crashdoll · 09/08/2012 21:53

Eighties I'm not saying I would have said for OP's son not to go BUT the jokes are below the belt. As an immunosuppressed person, I trust that people assess the situation as best they can.

LookBehindYou · 09/08/2012 21:53

I'm sorry Crashdoll if you're in that situation.

crashdoll · 09/08/2012 21:54

He vommed 4 times and the OP herself said he was poorly. I'm only going by what she said.

crashdoll · 09/08/2012 21:55

I'm not a total cow, I appreciate that we're taking about a very excited 6 year old boy and obviously, I'm glad he was ok. I just think some (not all!) people need to recognise that their actions do affect others.

LookBehindYou · 09/08/2012 21:59

I think we can all agree with that Crash. We just can't agree how that should be done and of course personal experience always comes into it.

limitedperiodonly · 09/08/2012 22:19

I'd like to lick Usain Bolt but he's just too fucking fast for me.

LookBehindYou · 09/08/2012 22:21

If it's any consolation Limited, he's rubbish in bed.

limitedperiodonly · 09/08/2012 22:36

If only I could pin him down long enough to find out.
