MIL and SIL have both said that I shouldn't keep dressing DD in "pyjamas" during the day. MIL has bought her "proper clothes" and pointedly said they are for nursery and SIL took DD upstairs and changed her.

DD is in baby grows for a number of reasons
they are cheap in baby bundles off eBay, her feet stay warm, she sleeps a lot so is comfortable, she's quick to dress/undress,
I don't mind when they get covered in paint etc at nursery etc.

Obviously for smart occasions she has a couple of dresses she wears but I intend to keep her in baby grows till she's about a year old. I said to SIL that when she had children of her own she could dress them in whatever she liked but that DD was my child and that I could dress her however I liked and would continue to dress her in baby grows for as long as I felt like it.

I'm curious to know if I am a bit odd or not. DD is my PFB so I don't know any different.

Your MiL and SiL are crazy and rude. YANBU. Neither of my dc wore any of the little outfits they were given because they just looked so uncomfortable and impractical. I think dc1 was in baby grows for about 9-10 months and dc2 for about 12 months.

Ds was probably in baby grows until he was 1, they are comfortabel and practical.

I'm quite shocked that people think its odd that babies should be in baby gros all day! I've never even thought about them as "nightwear" - just babywear!

I agree with you that they are easy, comfy etc. My ds lives in them and dd did till she was about 1 I think, I remember trying to get hold of some 18 month ones (she was a large baby!) ... And with ds now when he gets too long I snip the feet off and roll them back with socks on (he is 8 weeks) :)

Its not that I can't afford other clothes I just find sleepsuits cheaper and I'd rather spend money on other things. I really don't see the point of spending a lot on baby clothes that will last prob 6 weeks at a time.. I also buy loads of bundles from ebay. (He does have a couple of "posh" outfits I brought new including a cute romper in bright colours that was his going home outfit from hospital).

I think its horrid that your baby was taken upstairs and changed against your wishes!!! That's bloody disrespectful. I'd be hopping mad. And I'd take the clothes off right away and bin them. But that's just me. I'd be annoyed that they faffed my baby around.

Ds had outfits & babygrows in the day. I tried to find "jazzy" ones for the day & white ones for bed. There are some which are blatantly pyjamas but others are brightly coloured & more interesting. As he got older he had footless ones or some have grippy dots on the feet. In hot weather there are short sleeved & short legged romper suits. Babies look lovely dressed as babies
