for keeping my 7 month DD in baby grows?

MIL and SIL have both said that I shouldn't keep dressing DD in "pyjamas" during the day. MIL has bought her "proper clothes" and pointedly said they are for nursery and SIL took DD upstairs and changed her.

DD is in baby grows for a number of reasons
they are cheap in baby bundles off eBay, her feet stay warm, she sleeps a lot so is comfortable, she's quick to dress/undress,
I don't mind when they get covered in paint etc at nursery etc.

Obviously for smart occasions she has a couple of dresses she wears but I intend to keep her in baby grows till she's about a year old. I said to SIL that when she had children of her own she could dress them in whatever she liked but that DD was my child and that I could dress her however I liked and would continue to dress her in baby grows for as long as I felt like it.

I'm curious to know if I am a bit odd or not. DD is my PFB so I don't know any different.

I remember one day seeing a baby of about 15 months wearing a baby grow and proper shoes running about the park Hmm.Why would you do it?

RawShark · 06/08/2012 14:13

Fuzzy do you really seriously think that when you see a baby in a baby gro? Because I might think it but then I'd follow that up with "WHo cares?".

I had such bad nights I'd happily have worn my jammnies outside. Did once to put the wheely bin out - nappies urg poo gosh.

lovebunny do you think that wearing proper clothes is part of the healthvsitor checklist? I'm just a bit Shock that she woudl even mention it

Mrbojangles1 · 06/08/2012 14:14

I do if were hai ng a lazy day and not really goung anywere aprt from shops what i hate is seeing newborms in jeans and stuff

I saw a baby with trainers on the other day and not the soft ones big heavy nikes

RawShark · 06/08/2012 14:14

Fuzzy Baby grow and proper shoes definitely is odd though Grin - can't disagree there

FuzzzyDuckosaurus · 06/08/2012 14:17

rawshark yes I do really think that. I'm all for dd being comfortable, but she can be in nice, proper clothes. Surely you have to change the baby grow daily anyway so why not just put clothes on? Yes I have 'comfy' joggies I wear around the house but they are different from my pjs

RawShark · 06/08/2012 14:18

I think I must be a slattern!

BonaDea · 06/08/2012 14:23

Amused by the division between the camps. For what possible reason does a baby need to be in so-called 'proper' clothes?!

If what they are wearing is clean, comfortable and easy, what does it matter? Sorry, just not getting the problem!

RawShark · 06/08/2012 14:27

whispers Sometimes I left DS inhis babygro from the night before ALL DAY until mid afternoon. It wasn't dirty, he wasn't pukey or pooey. And they were sooo cute too.

JennerOSity · 06/08/2012 14:29

BonaDea so the judgey pants people have something to hoik over as they look your baby over and decide you couldn't be arsed to make any effort or change them out of their pyjamas! Hmm

GimmieChocolate · 06/08/2012 14:32

YANBU Its completely up to you how you dress your baby! My DD is younger then yours at only 10 weeks but during the day when we are at home she is in babygros. I have day ones that are nice and bright with patterns etc on and then I have quite plain simple ones for night time. If we are going out I'll put her in a short sleeved and short legged (in nice weather of course!) all in one or a nice outfit.

I was planning on carrying on with this kind of set up for a good few months. So much easier for me!

kinkyfuckery · 06/08/2012 14:34

DD2 was in mostly babygros until about 6 months or so. She spend most of her time out of the house in slings, so they were great for keeping her warm, comfortable and very practical. At some point when she became more mobile I switched to footless rompers and socks/bootees. She did also have t-shirt and legging combos, as I found they were a good compromise in-between babygrows and 'proper clothes' (which a lot of people, I found, tend to think means jeans and restrictive jumpers etc)

5madthings · 06/08/2012 14:36

rawshark yep i have done that as well, esp with little ones to who have to come with me on the school run to get older ones to school we have to be out by 8:10am so often it was nappy change and then a coat etc over the babygrow and bundle them up in the pushchair.

two of mine walked and 9/10mths so would wear babygrows with out feet and those little leather soft shoes so they were fine toddling about, i had some lovely ones from toby tiger etc, they were practical and cute and if they are bold colours etc there is nothing that makes them just bedtime clothes.

FuzzzyDuckosaurus · 06/08/2012 14:36

jenner it's a matter of opinion

forevergreek · 06/08/2012 14:37

Babies sleep so long in the day that surely the comfiest thing should be worn
As a nanny pretty much all babies have been kept in babygros day and night until min 6 months, more like 9-12 months

They are practical/ warm/ comfy

Its nothing to do with price as people up thread seem to think. Many of these babies are children of a-listers so an extortionate amount is sometimes spent, but spent on the comfiest babygros on the market :)

Saves buying socks, and socks falling off every 3 secs. People actually buy those sock Ons which shows have impractical socks on babies are if you have to buy something to keep them on

Let babies stay babies a while. Op you sound like you have your head screwed on :)

FuzzzyDuckosaurus · 06/08/2012 14:38

By proper clothes, I mean anything other than baby grows, which I deem to be sleepwear/nightwear so leggins, skirts, tights, jeans, jogging bottoms, tshirts, jumpers etc

RawShark · 06/08/2012 14:39

Grin at sock-on comment

5madthings · 06/08/2012 14:39

grr cant get my mouse to cut and paste for some reason! but go to www.tobytiger.co.uk and they have loads of sleepsuits with cute hats and also rompers, they are lovely and bright and cheerful and fine for everyday wear for babies. the rompers are like dungarees actually and great for summer (when we get one!) and the sleepsuits are all babygrows without feet in really funky patterns etc, htey are lovely for babies :)

UglyBettyIsMyHotterSister · 06/08/2012 14:40

I remember buying a DF's newborn a gorgeous babygro from mama's and papa's that probably cost about £30. (came with a rattle, hat etc!)

She opened it and said -ah, what cute pajama's. I was horrified, I wouldn't spend that amount on pj's for me, let alone a teeny tiny baby! Everyone's different I suppose!

5madthings · 06/08/2012 14:40

BlueCanary · 06/08/2012 14:41

Both mine wore babygros a lot in the day, until they started crawling. They also wore other comfy clothes, such as vest and velour dungarees with feet, playsuits/footless baby gros. It was VERY rare for them to wear proper clothes.

However, once they started crawling they'd get into a bit of a pickle inthe baby gro (feet stuck in body bit, or both legs in one leg hole!), so we had to start using 'separates'!

5madthings · 06/08/2012 14:41

look in the sleepsuits and then the rompes bits on there, lovely and cute and practical and not just for bedtime!

FuzzzyDuckosaurus · 06/08/2012 14:42

forever that's funny you say that. Im a nanny also and have worked in a nursery for many years and I've never known babies to stay in baby grows all day (apart from one, but his parents were honest in saying they never had time to get him ready in the morning)

RawShark · 06/08/2012 14:43

ah but you see 5madthings I had no school run as my excuse.....I can't believe this thread is so long tbh. And that I've posted so much given I don't actually care , to each his own.

My pet hate is football strips on babies BUt I will die post on here in support of your right to dress you children like that

BoffinMum · 06/08/2012 14:44

If the kids are clean and happy, then I don't think it matters a jot what they wear. I would wear babygros myself if I could get away with it.

RightBuggerforit · 06/08/2012 14:45

Yanbu, they are comfy for babies, and 7 months is still very much a baby! It doesnt matter what they wear as long as it is comfy.
