what the heck is iding?

Olympia2012 · 05/08/2012 16:19

Petition? Hell no

hopkinette · 05/08/2012 16:20

IDing - being asked for identification to confirm your age. I think.

Olympia2012 · 05/08/2012 16:20

Chaos, I think it's I.d, for buying alcohol, gambling etc

ilovesooty · 05/08/2012 16:21

If you do set one up I hope it's more comprehensible than your OP.

I have teenagers so I want the I.d system to stay thanks

Nuckinfutter · 05/08/2012 16:25

Surely there is more to being an adult than paying money to get an ID?

I was asked for ID by the lady in Morrisons Waitrose buying Reckorderlig a vintage Rioja. I almost snogged the woman.

Dprince · 05/08/2012 16:29

I think it should remain as is.

WildWorld2004 · 05/08/2012 16:30

When i worked in a supermarket we were told that we could ID anyone no matter what their age.

rushgirl28 · 05/08/2012 16:36

well thats your opinion
i got mine and dont agree with it why dont they put must always carry your id at all times.

I can see where you are coming from. At 25 I get ID'd far more often in supermarkets and pubs than when I was underage! What drives me crazy was waiting until 18 to be allowed to buy alcohol with less IDing and then they brought in think 21, waited until 21 and it became think 25! I may look slightly younger than I am (22 maybe) but that's over the legal limit! I don't have a passport and I don't drive (so no license) so all it means is that I will buy alcohol from corner shops and mini marts (and see plenty of underage teenagers doing the same!!)

If the government/supermarkets wants to bring in rules over and above the law they should provide ID free of charge to those over 18 (just a simple name, photo and DOB card). If they aren't prepared to stump up the cost then they should stick to the legal limit of 18.

Maleeka · 05/08/2012 16:37

I love being ID'd, and bore all my friends on facebook every time it happens! guess i look ok for a 43 yr old :-)

BettyTurnip · 05/08/2012 16:38

Challenge 25 is where a person has to prove through ID that they're over 18 if they look under 25. You don't have to actually be over 25 PinkNose.

TheQueenOfDiamonds · 05/08/2012 16:41

I don't understand.

Why were you humiliated? Did the staff make fun of you/speak to you in a rude way?

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 05/08/2012 16:42

If you had any idea just what goes on behind the scenes you might actually have some sympathy for those who are asking! Management etc are on our backs constantly in some places they even have to keep records of how many they have done and undercover set ups are constantly in place. Believe me most would much rather be able to go about their jobs without all the hassle!!! Not only is it a large personal fine, you could also loose the establishment their licence

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 05/08/2012 16:44

Not to mention be out of a job. It's incredibly stressful and I promise there is no satisfaction taken by staff who are asking. :(

JumpingThroughHoops · 05/08/2012 16:44

In the USA everyone has to show ID when buying alcohol. No matter if you are 21 or 71. So if everyone had to do it over here, then no one would feel marginalised.

However, I'm not in favour of ID cards if they cost me anything!

GoodButNoMedals · 05/08/2012 16:44

Seeing as my 12 year old looks about 17 (doesn't act it thank God) I really want the ID system to stay the same as she'll look over 18 way before she actually hits 18. Even the challenge 25 thing is fine by me as some of the kids I teach certainly look early/mid twenties when they are out and about in the evenings even though they are all under 18.

I just wish I got asked for it :( Maybe I need to buy alcohol more often Wink

Fwiw you don't need to carry id at all times, just when you are doing age restricted things, which seems an appropriate time to need it to me.

rushgirl28 · 05/08/2012 16:45

thanks blueemerald someone who knows where im coming from why should we have to pay for our ids.I know some who love being ided i dont love because got to pay money so i can drink or gamble.

Bit childish, considering IDing is there for a very valid reason.
