To think it's disgusting to wash up without rinsing?

Just that really!
I really can't understand how seemingly clean people lather their dirty dishes and just put them to dry without rinsing the foam off. All the germs and soap residue are left on the plates surely?

Yuk. Revolting!

The whole washing up everything in the same bowl of water thing is rank, especially if you don't even rinse it. It might use more water & more washing up liquid but washing it in running water has to be the better option, more hygenic

MrsRyanLochte · 01/08/2012 15:32

YANBU. I always feel bad when I have people over and they help to wash up and don't rinse. You can feel the residue still on the plates. It's grim. I have to wash everything again when they've gone.

Isn't the point of washing up liquid to rinse it off, the way it was explained to me that one end of the washing up liquid molecule sticks to the grease and the other end sticks to water thereby making grease effectively water soluble. But you still need water to rinse it off at the end otherwise you just have plates with washing up liquid stuck to food residue.

WavingLeaves · 01/08/2012 15:35

You can save water by only filling the bowl about a third full, and using a very soapy sponge to wash. Run the hot tap v slowly over the bowl as you rinse, so the 'rinse' water goes back in the bowl and tops it up.

I don't see that that uses a lot more water than filling up the bowl in the first place. Un-rinsed stuff is grim - would you put the washing up water in your mouth?

usualsuspect · 01/08/2012 15:36

Who knew that washing up was such a boring controversial issue.

Kladdkaka · 01/08/2012 15:36

I bet rinsers iron their knickers too Grin

CleoSmackYa · 01/08/2012 15:38

I don't rinse. Can't be arsed. Nothing tastes soapy (how much are you using?!) and I'm not dead yet either.

Birdsgottafly · 01/08/2012 15:38

No, because wearing un-ironed knickers doesn't put chemicals directly into your stomach.

ArielThePiraticalMermaid · 01/08/2012 15:39

There are worse things that soap suds in your system, Birds. I hate to break it to you.

TwoStepsBack · 01/08/2012 15:39

Swap your Fairy Liquid for cheapo range then you won't have to worry about soap suds.

valiumredhead · 01/08/2012 15:40

I bet 'rinsers' spend their lives clenching Wink

LST · 01/08/2012 15:41

Is it any wonder there was/is a drought in this country!!

olimpia · 01/08/2012 15:41

Ironing most things=waste of time
Rinsing soap scum and food residue off plates= essential chore IMO

scarletforya · 01/08/2012 15:42

Why on earth would anyone wash dishes manually in this day and age!?

That's the question that boggles the mind Confused

GwendolineMaryLacey · 01/08/2012 15:43

Wow there are some tightly clenched arses on this thread :o I don't know how I've survived my 40 years. I'm a walking miracle! Who knew how controversial washing up was.

CharlotteBronzeySaurus · 01/08/2012 15:43

so those of us with kitchens too small for a dishwasher must hire servants?

valiumredhead · 01/08/2012 15:44

Drought conditions aren't from people rinsing LST they are from leaks in reservoirs that go unfixed.

WavingLeaves · 01/08/2012 15:44

Just because something doesn't kill you isn't always a great recommendation for doing it. Look at the realms of grossness toddlers and kids are happy to stick in their mouths.

usualsuspect · 01/08/2012 15:44

Because not everyones got or can afford a dishwasher, err maybe.

HazleNutt · 01/08/2012 15:44

YANBU and I don't know of any other country where people use this unique way of washing dishes. How do you non-rinsers wash your hair I wonder - shampoo, lather and let dry?

TheQueenOfDiamonds · 01/08/2012 15:44

I rinse but only cause it seems to be easier to dry them without all the foam on!

ethelb · 01/08/2012 15:44

it is true that if there is more than one person in the house, a dishwasher is more water efficient than washing up and rinsing.

MadgeHarvey · 01/08/2012 15:44

I love MN. Learn something new every day. People actually shower after they bath? That is nothing short of a criminal waste of water. Don't use the smelly shit in the first place then you won't need to rinse it off in the shower will you? I agree with usualsuspect. I think these people would probably need to be unclenched surgically. Grin

WavingLeaves · 01/08/2012 15:47

I am mostly a slattern, for the record. My kitchen floor hasn't been washed for at least 2 months, and my arse is too flabby to clench.

valiumredhead · 01/08/2012 15:47

I just can't summon up the energy to give a hoot either way tbh, rinse, don't rinse Grin

ouryve · 01/08/2012 15:48

I rinse. And I only have the one sink. I just don't fill the sink full to the top when I start washing up, washing a few things, put them back in the sink, set the tap going and rinse them, put them on the drainer, then onto the next layer.
