To think it's disgusting to wash up without rinsing?

Just that really!
I really can't understand how seemingly clean people lather their dirty dishes and just put them to dry without rinsing the foam off. All the germs and soap residue are left on the plates surely?

Yuk. Revolting!

Yabu. I am disgusting. Truly. Awful.

NutmegKate · 01/08/2012 14:50

So...I am apparently lazy, revolting, disgusting etc., etc.. And so is my mum. Hmm

FoofHundredMetreFreestyle · 01/08/2012 14:51

Where do you suggest paupers such as us with one sink should rinse?
Hmm?
Hmm?

Paiviaso · 01/08/2012 14:51

Yes, this is one of things foreigners are slightly horrified by when they move to the UK. My DP washes up like this but I still can't bring myself too (I grew up in Canada).

You are dipping dirty dishes into dirty (but soapy) water, and then placing them on the side to dry...not very clean! And the residue left on the dishes does not look very appealing either.

But I will still eat off of them, so disgusting is going a bit far!

DoesItComeInBlack · 01/08/2012 14:53

I have a posh tap with a shower type attachment so I can wash all mine, stack them on the drainer and then rinse them all off with the shower hose at once!! It's brilliant, saves water but was a bit pricey to buy.

maillotjaune · 01/08/2012 14:53

Well I rinse but don't think it's disgusting not to. Just wrongWink

Don't fill up the sink, use soapy sponge and rinse with slow trickle and it doesn't use much water at all. Use much more filling up a bowl.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 01/08/2012 14:53

YANBU.

It is beyond me how people think they are cleaning things when they are using dirty water.

You wouldn't consider your hands to be washed if you dipped them in and out of dirty water, so why do people think it washes anything else?

Dishes, cups et al should be washed under running water.

If you don't have a separet bit in your sink for rinsing, how do you do this?

Got a dishwasher two weeks ago to avoid this bollocks.

diddl · 01/08/2012 14:55

I don´t rinse-can´t afford to.

Nothing tastes of Fairy Liquid-how much would you have to be using??

Birdsgottafly · 01/08/2012 14:57

I rinse because everyone i know who is medically involved with treating and reserching cancer, does.

In fact most do not use washing upliquid (or drink from plastic bottles).

GhouliaYelps · 01/08/2012 14:57

I have stopped eating at my friends house where I can taste bubbles on her plates, it's so disgusting - rinsing is the whole point of washing it rinses the dirt off duh!

olimpia · 01/08/2012 14:57

There are lots of ways of doing it without using two sinks. For example just lather all the dishes in the sink with soapy water then let all the water drain and rinse them under the tap one by one. Doesn't take more than a minute compared to the other yucky method.

I agree. The chemicals in the liquid that break down fat and dissolve dirt are NOT good for you in the long term. You wouldn't eat shampoo or any other type of cleaning product so why washing up liquid residue?

QuenelleOJersey2012 · 01/08/2012 14:58

If it was 'disgusting' wouldn't all these terrible germs cause lots of illness?

We never rinse, we just use hot, soapy water. In fact I don't think DH even uses very hot water as it aggravates his eczema. I can't remember the last time one of us had a stomach upset.

DS is 3. He has been sick once in his life and has never experienced diarrhea.

GhouliaYelps · 01/08/2012 14:59

And the water has to be hot too!

JennerOSity · 01/08/2012 14:59

To rinse with one sink.... just put a little water in to start and rinse as you go. You don't need knee deep water to wash in, just enough to wet with soapy water clean the stuff off, followed by a rinse after to ensure no-residue washing up. At the end you have a full sink, but not at the start. Voila!

MrsKeithRichards · 01/08/2012 14:59

I've had a dishwasher for years but remember chucking a couple of mugs of hot water over the dishes - does that count?

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 01/08/2012 15:00

Why do people think you need a separate sink Confused I must be missing something.

You have all your dirty dishes in the sink, they get rinsed as soon as they are used so even if you aren't washing up straight away they don't need to soak. Then when you wash up, you turn on tap, don rubber gloves so you can have the water nice and hot, squirt washing up liquid onto your brush/sponge/cloth, scrub plate, rinse plate, put on draining board. Job done.

NarkedRaspberry · 01/08/2012 15:01

Dishwasher.

Floggingmolly · 01/08/2012 15:01

It's not the taste of fairy liquid that's the issue, it's the remnants of other people's leftover food splashing around in the washing up bowl Envy
And you can't just change the water when it's "dirty", it's dirty as soon as the first plate has come out!

frumpet · 01/08/2012 15:03

Never heard of this in all my days , i thought you meant rinse off big bits before washing . I have never lived in a house with two sinks though so i have clearly been at a disadvantage

piprabbit · 01/08/2012 15:05

I'm a partial rinser. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't
However I really do not understand people who fail to follow the Girlguiding rules for washing up - start with the cleanest stuff (glasses etc.), progress through to the slightly more grubby stuff and leave the really filthy pans etc. to last.
DH washes up randomly. He'll wash a greasy pan and then a clean glass tumbler. Drives me mad.

NutmegKate · 01/08/2012 15:05

We were taught to wash up in Home Economics lessons about 100 years ago. Plenty of hot water, change water frequently as necessary - nothing about rinsing.

ScrambledSmegs · 01/08/2012 15:06

I rinse. Can't bear drinks being ruined because of soapy flavour. My DMIL doesn't rinse and says it's because she only uses the tiniest amount of washing-up liquid (true) but DH and I can taste soap on her plates/glasses etc. I suppose she's used to it.

Birds, what do they use if not washing up liquid?
