.to wonder if the vast majority of parents on this web site are perfect?

Not been here too long, but it seems that almost everyone here is a perfect parent who look down on the mere mortals who come on here for help and support - maybe i have just been unlucky in the threads I have picked to look at or comment on, but surely not everyone here has an ass so tight it squeaks when they walk??!!

JamieandTheOlympicTorch · 22/07/2012 20:58

Why so extreme OP? People are allowed to have an opinion about a topic without implying they themselves are "perfect".

amck5700 · 22/07/2012 21:05

People are allowed to have an opinion, but sometimes the way it is said can come over either like bullying or as i said before "holier than thou" when you get one or two on a thread of 20 it's not noticable, but on some threads you get a whole lot of people in a row jumping down one persons throat and it is not very nice to see. that's all.

OP posts:
Pagwatch · 22/07/2012 21:14

That can happen. But to be honest I think it is more productive to post 'i think you are being unreasonably harsh and rude' on the thread in question rather than posting an OP which is a hard to read as anything other than a swipe at 'the vast majority' of posters.

There are some tossers on here, just as there are in real life. But arriving at a site and posting something rude about it is too sweeping a generalisations to do anything other than irritate.
Just take issue or report the posts you think are too harsh or rude.
Don't sneer at the majority of users. It's silly.

TapirBackRider · 22/07/2012 21:19

People have opinions; they share them here because this is what this place is for.

It's always a good thing to realise that these are just words on a screen; that it can be difficult to convey intent without going mad on the emoticons, strikeouts and brackets, and that people can project their own feelings onto posts and give them a meaning which was not intended by the poster.

Tee2072 · 22/07/2012 21:23

Amck, a piece of totally unasked for advice...stop telling other people what to do on MN or any where else.

It's much ruder than anything anyone has said to you, I assure you of that.

Bored now.

amck5700 · 22/07/2012 21:26

Tee - so you have said - many times - it's getting boring now.

OP posts:
SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/07/2012 21:28

I second what Pagwatch has said, 5700. Can you see how rude it is to criticise the whole site based on the few threads you have read?

amck5700 · 22/07/2012 21:30

SDT - if you look a few posts up I have already said that:

Actually, I apologise for saying "almost everyone" that's clearly a exaggeration, there are however quite a lot of people with a "holier than thou" vibe about them, I shall do my best to avoid them

OP posts:
TapirBackRider · 22/07/2012 21:31

I don't honestly think that the OP is interested in gaining a broader view of MN - they have posted with what appears to be the intent of attempting to insult others, and start a bunfight.

It is the holidays, after all.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 22/07/2012 21:34

Seems to be a night for bunfights Hmm

Brew anyone?

amck5700 · 22/07/2012 21:35

tapir - I posted because i have seen a lot of unfair posts to people on here - maybe i have just been unlucky, but i hate to see bullying in any form, especially on a website that I thought was here to help and support others. As has been pointed out, I agree that I have also been unfair, i didn't intend to and i did not single anyone out.

IllegitimateGruffaloChild · 22/07/2012 21:36

Can I just clarify that Tesco 24hrs is ACTUALLY open all night on a Sunday in Scotland? Envy

Ours still shuts on a Sunday at 5pm but reopens at 8am on a Monday morning.

LineRunner · 22/07/2012 21:39

Can I also clarify that MN is riddled with threads started by eejits who profess shock that every single post isn't 'helping and supporting others'?

amck5700 · 22/07/2012 21:40

Yup!!

OP posts:
LineRunner · 22/07/2012 21:41

See, some posts are actually fucking amusing. Grin

amck5700 · 22/07/2012 21:41

....then they are my kind of eejits.

OP posts:
LineRunner · 22/07/2012 21:41

Indeed. Smile

amck5700 · 22/07/2012 21:42

yeah, I have to admit that some people are actually very funny - to redress the balance I should really put another positive post about that.......but then again.......

OP posts:
amck5700 · 22/07/2012 21:46

so, can someone help me with the stats then?

we have
x % who are funny
y % that are helpful
z% that are nasty
v% that are perfect
w% that are eejits
....any more??

OP posts:
amck5700 · 22/07/2012 21:46

oh and J% who can shop all night on a Sunday in Tesco whenever they feel the urge :)

OP posts:
Pagwatch · 22/07/2012 21:47

It's alright.
There is one of these posts every couple of weeks.
No need to redress the balance.

Just try to make your next thread quite such a cliche.
The 'i have just arrived and I need to lecture you all in a pompous manner' threads are very regular.

Pagwatch · 22/07/2012 21:48

X-posted

The stats don't work.
People can be funny and kind and rude. Depends on the thread.

Pagwatch · 22/07/2012 21:49

I have my Bumper Book of Wankers if that is any help?

amck5700 · 22/07/2012 21:50

......ah, but if we've just arrived then how are we to know Wink

Seriously though if it happens that often then the initial vibe of this place can't be great can it?

OP posts:
TapirBackRider · 22/07/2012 21:50

Then you'll go far - just remember that gross generalisations will always get you shot down in flames, and that this is, after all, an anonymous chat forum with thousands of users/posters who will either pat you on the back or pour vitriol on you...

Have a look through the classics section, and also at the wooly hugs stuff. That is what MN is all about. Smile

Oh and it's not just Tesco's that are open 24hrs up here!
