.to wonder if the vast majority of parents on this web site are perfect?

amck5700 · 22/07/2012 18:07

Not been here too long, but it seems that almost everyone here is a perfect parent who look down on the mere mortals who come on here for help and support - maybe i have just been unlucky in the threads I have picked to look at or comment on, but surely not everyone here has an ass so tight it squeaks when they walk??!!

Tee2072 · 22/07/2012 18:20

Yes. Everyone of MN's 1,000,000 readers and posters is perfect.

Except you.

It's true. We didn't want to tell you. But, it's true.

Sorry.

Ha. My dd1 called my fil a fucker when she was very small. Mil calls him a fucker all the time and she was just repeating what she was hearing. I died laughing while mil did a cats bum face!
Surely here as in rl, you get a mix of reactions? Doesn't mean anyone is perfect

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/07/2012 18:21

Any comments on Woolly Hugs or the support offered to ex pat? Ant acknowledgment that judging the site on ONE thread might be just a tad unreasonable?

amck5700 · 22/07/2012 18:22

crazy - not in the RL i live - some people seem to think that just because the person cant see you it's okay to be rude - I bet people wouldn't be so blunt in real life.

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 22/07/2012 18:22

And there is actually no rule about threads about threads. It's more a custom.

But you're still not very clever to judge an entire site by one thread.

HildaOgden · 22/07/2012 18:22

I don't find it a Stepford Wives kind of place at all.Sometimes I am suprised when the majority of replies on a thread differ to what I personally think, but then I just think 'oh well,on this occasion,my view is in the minority camp'.

It's life,it happens...not every single person will have exactly the same view on a subject. Some people think it's really funny to hear a toddler swear, some people think it really isn't.And sometimes, people hold those views strongly.

I wouldn't worry about it too much amck5700.

Tee2072 · 22/07/2012 18:23

YAWN

"I bet you aren't so rude in real life."

Actually? I sure the fuck am.

Are you so thin skinned in real life?

FormerlyTitledUntidy · 22/07/2012 18:23

My mil likes to refer to me as direct (ie, rude bitch)
Yep, I'm the very same irl :o

RubyFakeNails · 22/07/2012 18:23

It's not that people are perfect, but what I think happens is that when people give advice its from a more objective view.

For example, if you ask about eating habits, some people will say that eating x is fine as my dc do it all the time, but then lots of people will say 'no you shouldn't allow your child to eat that" regardless if they allow their own dcs, because they know eating x is wrong. I know this isn't a good example and im being inarticulate but it's sort of that people give advice on what you should be doing not what they do, in the same way that maybe you smoke but you would advise your dc not to.

Also bear in mind lots of people on mn have either quite strong beliefs on parenting styles and take parenting very seriously or work with children often as teachers, childminders, social workers etc etc.

The other thing to remember is people often post on what is relevant or of interest to them, so going back to the original example, if I don't care about healthy eying I might not even bother to post so you don't get that poster saying it doesn't matter, you get the ones who have stronger views about it.

marquesas · 22/07/2012 18:24

I can see why someone new to the site might think that. I haven't read the swearing thread but on the one about not brushing a child's teeth some of the posters do sound a bit holier than thou.

I am-I´ve been told it on here enough timesHmm

amck5700 · 22/07/2012 18:24

usual - if you find it tedious then go lurk somewhere else, posting is not compulsory.

SDT - that is wonderful if there are other threads where people are supporting and nurturing - i am not basing it on one thread, but obviously i haven't had time yet to review every post on here - it was an observation based on my personal experience - which me not being perfect - I appreciate counts for less than others.

QuintessentialShadows · 22/07/2012 18:25

no, only a small proportion, but we they are very vocal.

usualsuspect · 22/07/2012 18:26

I have to post on this thread though , because I'm so perfect.

crazynanna · 22/07/2012 18:26

crazy - not in the RL i live

Well maybe I just mingle with gobby gits'...but yes people I know would say what they think.

Maybe I just pick those up front people to mingle with

WorraLiberty · 22/07/2012 18:27

My arse is pretty perfect

Except it doesn't squeak

KellyElly · 22/07/2012 18:27

No not me. I wish I was but I'm as flawed as anyone. People talk the talk on here but are probably nothing like that in RL. It's always easy to give advice isn't it.

timetoask · 22/07/2012 18:28

If your "measure" of perfect parent, is that they wouldn't like their small child to use swear words, then yes I am perfect!

liketochat1 · 22/07/2012 18:28

If I were you op I'd go and calm down about the argument somewhere else (whatever it was). It's no use starting a thread about it as that's just giving some posters another opportunity to have a dig.

amck5700 · 22/07/2012 18:29

Ruby thanks - I can see where you are coming from.

TEE if you are so tired then you should maybe go to bed? - I am not thin skinned I just think i am a reasonable human being, I don't expect people to be rude in real life either - is that so wrong?

and once again, i am not basing this on one thread, that was an EXAMPLE!

OP posts:
SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/07/2012 18:29

Well - all I will say is that you need to spend a bit more time here, and you will find that the good greatly outweighs the bad.

I suspect that you have rushed to judgement, based on a small number of threads, and that is unreasonable.

amck5700 · 22/07/2012 18:31

I am not annoyed and don't need to calm down btw - although i do need to go and get the weekly shop shortly so I will have to leave you to it.

OP posts:
BBwolefs · 22/07/2012 18:31

Well its optional you know both to participate and to read Grin

I am far from perfect and have never really felt inferior here, by and large I enjoy what I read here and the kindness shown when needed is phenomenal

so to use an MN phrase dont let the door hit your arse on the way out
