shouty, stabby, dear husband, dear son etc.

DH etc has certainly around for long than mumsnet and is used on many other forums too.

As an aside, I once read an article in the Guardian about Flylady (who also uses DH!) in which the writer claimed that DH stands for Domestic Help. Grin

Stonefield · 17/07/2012 11:32

I can live with all sorts of words but some of the acronyms are a nightmare, sorry if it's just me being thick and still relatively new to Mumsnet but it takes me ages to figure some of them out. And I don't think that it's the language used that makes us a community, isn't it what we talk about that makes us a community?

TheVermiciousKnid · 17/07/2012 11:33

That was meant to say 'for longer'. Pah.

WhataTreat · 17/07/2012 11:35

I don't really say 'dear' in RL but I think it makes the people of a story stand out better. So DH is clearer to me than an H in the middle of a thread!

On another note, for ages I thought STBXH stood for 'shoot the bastard ex husband' !

WorraLiberty · 17/07/2012 11:36

Oh God the AF thing drove me mad as I had no idea what it meant so I Googled. I found out it meant Aunt Flo and I was still none the wiser.

Who for the love of baby cheeses calls their period their Aunt Flo? Confused

TheVermiciousKnid, give it time Grin

NarkedRaspberry · 17/07/2012 11:36

Stabby always makes me smile.

NurseBernard · 17/07/2012 11:37

It's OK Stonefield, you don't have to apologise. Grin

JamNan · 17/07/2012 11:38

'cuntworm' Never heard of it before - must remember that one.

TheVermiciousKnid · 17/07/2012 11:38

No, never, Worra! I won't succumb!

I agree about 'Aunt Flo'. Ugh. And just think how confusing it must be for women called Flo who have lots of nieces and nephews. Random people talking about them on the internet!

ElephantsCanRemember · 17/07/2012 11:39

Never mind your RL aunt flo, I get confused and think they are talking about AnyFucker Confused

TheVermiciousKnid · 17/07/2012 11:40

Well, for all we know AnyFucker might be called Flo and be an aunt. They could be one and the same person.

WorraLiberty · 17/07/2012 11:40

Haha yeah. Aunt Flo walking through the door and everyone making crucifixes out of tampons Grin

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 17/07/2012 11:42

whatatreat that's amazing :) Must try and think that every time I see STBXH!

TheVermiciousKnid · 17/07/2012 11:42

I'm surprised nobody has used the nickname 'Aunt Flo' yet. (Or maybe somebody has?) Or how about 'AuntFloWing'? 'AuntFuckingFlo'?

WorraLiberty · 17/07/2012 11:43

No, they'd look a right bloody cunt with that nickname....

ThisWeekonFancyPuffin · 17/07/2012 11:43

I tend to find saying 'I feel stabby' gets a more positive reaction than 'I want to dragon kick the miserable cunt in the face'.

I blame society.

HoneyDragonWearingLederhosen · 17/07/2012 11:44

I like the verbosity of Mumsnet myself. It is born out of a tongue in cheek mash up of mum speak and actual intelligent grown up speak.

But then again there's not a great deal I do dislike. Apart from Mnetters, I'm not terribly keen on those people.

TheVermiciousKnid · 17/07/2012 11:44
Grin
ElephantsCanRemember · 17/07/2012 11:44

Ooh I would love to be AuntFuckingFlo. But this is the first nickname I have had for more than a week and I am seeing if I can last with it longterm.

ElephantsCanRemember · 17/07/2012 11:44

Worra Grin

Tee2072 · 17/07/2012 11:44

Mrsjay · 17/07/2012 11:44
