to feel a bit sorry for Tom Cruise

Don't flame me! I'm not even a fan of the man - honest. He just seems to have the whole world of Mumsnet against him and I don't see what's wrong with him other than the Press have got it in for him.

Nicole Kidman seemed very happy when she was married to him, I remember reading an interview with her in which she talked about his kindness and how he "never went for the jugular" in arguments.

He has raised his two children with Nicole after she seemingly walked away from them. Like Peter Andre, he Really Loves His Kids.

OK so he's a Scientologist but to agnostics like me that doesn't seem any weirder than Christianity or Islam or any other religion.

So can we please have some MN love for TC?

That school's policy on SEN in the link above sounds totally bonkers!

YouOldSlag · 08/07/2012 10:41

Well I don't feel sorry for TC at all. My perception of him is a very rich and powerful control freak who belongs to a secretive cult. IMO, his public face is only half the picture.

I would never go and see one of his films.

People say KH knew what she was getting into- well what I say is that she may have been introduced to it all in a positive light and finally matured and opened her eyes and now has a very different view of Scientology.

I just think it's easy to get carried away when you're in love, but she sobered up and saw the reality.

I think she's played a blinder myself.

confusedpixie · 08/07/2012 10:56

Yabu, you need to read some of the links here, only touches the surface.

YouOldSlag · 08/07/2012 12:05

can you repost links pixie?

confusedpixie · 08/07/2012 14:06

Have some been deleted? I think the ones I posted on the other thread have all been posted here, admittedly I'm on the verge of having my previous posts on those threads deleted myself, don't know why I was drawn into these threads about it all in the first place knowing how stupid it is to be Blush

perceptionreality · 08/07/2012 14:22

Confusedpixie I have pmed you. I'll understand if you don't reply though.

confusedpixie · 08/07/2012 15:04

Replied, sorry I can't be of more help though! :)

TidyDancer · 08/07/2012 15:40

TC is in a very dangerous cult with no religious basis. It was conceived in the mind of a crackpot writer who wanted to make money. It seperates children from parents, its members die or go missing, it doesn't believe in mental illness and it thinks we are descended from thetans.

Do I feel sorry for a man who has willingly allowed two children to be brainwashed into a cult that does all those things, and was about to to it to a third?

Do I fuck.

Ruudiluca · 08/07/2012 16:02

YABU Tom Cruise has more money than sense!
He supports a "religion" that believes that people with depression should be locked in a room for weeks without any contact from loved ones.

Ruudiluca · 08/07/2012 16:05

There are also some hilarious rumors about his heavily debated sexuality that involves him wearing a skin tight wrestlers outfit.....

SoleSource · 08/07/2012 16:09

aquashiv that video is hilarious!

perceptionreality · 08/07/2012 18:15

This video makes for interesting viewing....

squoosh · 09/07/2012 10:55

How interesting.

rollingfog143 is clearly a scientologist doing her bit towards damage control. I read an article last week which stated that scientologists were told to scour internet forums for anti-Tom posts and report them to site administrators to see if they were contravening terms and conditions. Some of your turn of phrases sound quite American so yes you?re definitely one of the crazy cult's foot soldiers.

I think the scientology crazy horse has well and truly bolted and it?s a bit late now to be trying to persuade people that TC is just a good guy who?s a bit crap at wife shopping.

The Irish Times last week had a piece about a conference held in Dublin by ex-Scientologists. www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2012/0702/1224319184307.html
Those attending had to wear masks in order to avoid being identified by the crazy scientologists who were outside filming all those who attended. If TC is number two in this cult then NO I do not feel sorry for him and neither should anyone else. It is a deeply dark and destructive organisation whose main practice seems to be intimidation. I hope this divorce brings a shit storm of further bad publicity down against this cult.

Oh, and by the way, he?s a deeply unengaging actor. Even if he does all his own, yawn, stunts.

YouOldSlag · 09/07/2012 13:38

Good post squoosh.

rollingfog143 · 09/07/2012 13:42

I'm neither a Scientologist nor American Confused I've not been brainwashed by a cult or the Daily Mail.

rollingfog143 · 09/07/2012 13:44

For some reason I am more offended at being accused of being an American than a Scientologist ...

OP posts:
FreudianSlipper · 09/07/2012 13:47

i do not read the daily mail (i do sometimes on links posted here)

i am sure others too have formed their opinion of scientology and their followers practices from other sources other than the dm including the links on this thread that are not from the dm

YouOldSlag · 09/07/2012 13:51

There are loads of sources other than the DM. It's not a one newspaper crusade by any means. You only have to google ex Scientologists to find out they all had good reasons for leaving and not going back.

HmmThinkingAboutIt · 09/07/2012 13:53

rollingfog, you should see whats been said in parliament about Scientology...

...I'm thinking thats a fairly decent source to based my opinion that Scientology is pretty, well.... shit.

Is that good enough for you?

squoosh · 09/07/2012 17:08

Article in the Independent by John Sweeney who made that BBC doc about Scientology (the one where he unfortunately lost the rag).

OhDearNigel · 09/07/2012 17:13

Why does her mother insist on parading her around the place when she knows the paps are going to be out in force? Did she really need to go all "look at me I'm normal now because I shop in whole foods with my kid just like other normal mums"

Is she supposed to hide away indoors then ?

shrodingerscat · 09/07/2012 17:24

People who try to distance themselves from this cult or disagree with its leaders have gone missing - including David Miscavige's wife, Shelly, who has not been seen since 2007. She apparently masterminded the marriage of TC to KH. I'm not really sure I blame KH for staying as much in the public eye as possible. I'm guessing while she's visible, it's harder for the cult to make her disappear.

Shelly Miscavige disappeared

NarkedRaspberry · 09/07/2012 18:15

Yes Nigel, she's obviously supposed to never let her daughter out in public.

bochead · 09/07/2012 19:01

Spending time in ordinary public places with lots of ordinary public witnessness makes a lot of sense for someone trying to stay safe from a cult that has the ability to make even senior members (like the leaders rebellious wife?) "disapear".

Katie Holmes has taken a MASSIVE risk in doing what she's done, and must have used her knowledge of the alienation of the older kids from their Mum & the treatment NK recieved at the end of her marriage to TC to inform her choices.

TC's older kids were homeschooled by his scientologist sister - thereby having no real exposure to life outside the cult. Suri would have suffered the same fate had TC retained his renowned control. KH is playing for very high stakes & she knows it.

Alarm bells have been ringing for a long time now from many reputable sources about the dangers of scientology for a long time now. TC has knowingly been the poster boy for this movement, giving it a veneer of glamour & respectability - depsite the harm it's caused countless families - now perhaps it's time for karma to ensure he reaps what he's sown.

squoosh · 10/07/2012 10:47

The divorce is now settled and Katie has been granted primary custody.

My, my wasn't that quick. I wonder why the haste Wink
