Don't flame me! I'm not even a fan of the man - honest. He just seems to have the whole world of Mumsnet against him and I don't see what's wrong with him other than the Press have got it in for him.

Nicole Kidman seemed very happy when she was married to him, I remember reading an interview with her in which she talked about his kindness and how he "never went for the jugular" in arguments.

He has raised his two children with Nicole after she seemingly walked away from them. Like Peter Andre, he Really Loves His Kids.

OK so he's a Scientologist but to agnostics like me that doesn't seem any weirder than Christianity or Islam or any other religion.

So can we please have some MN love for TC?

Well I'm an atheist, and think that Scientology is even more bonkers than Christianity or Islam. Tom Cruise has always given me the creeps, and the anti depressant thing just sealed my opinion. He's a deeply sinister little man.

My understanding is that the older children have been brought up in such a way that they no longer want to see much of their mother and that that is possibly due to the influence of scientology in their lives.

I don't feel sorry for him, but I don't agree with casting him as the devil either.

OP I can understand why you feel a bit sorry for him because none of us know what goes on behind closed doors. I love how people keep saying, "Oooh, he's so controlling!" like we all know him or something, you know we were just chatting to Katie and Nicole last week and the things they told us...

BTW dark hints - I am genuinely interested to know what awful things were going on in the name of scientology. Really, sincerely. Because I just thought it was a slightly eccentric religion involving alien ancestors.

I doubt NK walked away from her kids - much more likely she didn't have a Father who was a lawyer and could make an escape plan for her

TC is an utter nob, any man that jumps on sofas and pays a science fiction author shed loads of dosh is a nob.

I don't have sympathy for him if it's true that she left him because of Scientology and the grip it has on him. I once read an article about how powerful Scientology is, it made grim reading.

He indoctrinated their children into a cult that views anyone who's not fully committed to it - eg Nicole Kidman - as a threat and someone to be avoided at all costs. He alienated those children - no pun intended - from their mother and you think he should get credit for that?
