a set down and I'm beaming...

OP posts:
redlac · 04/07/2012 21:29

sorry OP how did you intend it? Did you expect swathes of poster agreeing with you? Scots are very protective over their dour, miserable, winning sporting heroes and you were ALWAYS going to get a reaction to your thread

whatgoodisthis · 04/07/2012 21:32

you are being unreasonable and fairly mean-spirited.
Willing someone to lose is pretty unsportsmanlike.
Murray is the best british player in years and years...

Come on Andy!!!

HappyJoyful · 04/07/2012 21:32

Thank you prettycherrytrees..
I totally see where you are coming from- and if you do read back I did say I worded it incorrectly- perhaps I wasn't tactful and I did try to actually say that I wasn't actually trying to be as 'inflamatory" as I had originally sounded- thats whats grates on here is that you can't appear to re-comment on something which I tried clearly to do without another equally unpleasant number of flame throwing comments- guess thats what did surprise me and pierce the hard hard!

OP posts:
PrettyCherryTrees · 04/07/2012 21:32

Sorry posted too soon. People didn't like it, and responded in kind. You upset them so they wanted to upset you.

I understand that you are upset but I'm not clear why you seem to find the responses surprising in the context I've noted above.

Also I wouldn't personally have made the comments that the poster did who commented on your achievements but to be fair you appeared to dismiss all of Andy Murray's achievements on the basis that you don't like him, he isn't pleasant to watch did you mean unattractive? and you don't like his Mum!

OP what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. I would recommend you leave it a couple of days and then reread this thread with a cool head. I really don't think you have cause for complaint.

Unless of course you are new and didn't know what you were letting yourself in for in which case you've no doubt learnt your lesson.

mayorquimby · 04/07/2012 21:32

Going with yanbu, always makes a game more enjoyable if you either really want someone to win or really want them to lose.
One of the simple in life is hearing Liverpool have lost even if it has no effect on my team.
Although I'm a big Murray fan

mayorquimby · 04/07/2012 21:33

*simple joys

redlac · 04/07/2012 21:35

"One of the simple in life is hearing Liverpool have lost even if it has no effect on my team. "

Ah so Anyone but Liverpool then?

mayorquimby · 04/07/2012 21:41

No I'm a united fan, just always a nice little bonus when Liverpool lose.
I know plenty of pool fans who return my sentiments with interest

PrettyCherryTrees · 04/07/2012 21:42

Well Happy it's been a good opportunity for you to learn that it's difficult to convey a 'tone' in writing - hence many posters' use of emoticons to illustrate their meaning.

Think yourself lucky you're on an annoymous internet forum around here you'd be run out of town for such comments Grin

see what I did there?

Wink I think I've made my point have some Wine and I'll liok forward to your next post!

Ilovecoffeeandchocolate · 04/07/2012 21:53

I agree with you OP his attitude stinks lots of other tennis players have said this past and present. The fake injuries are see through. Don't worry he has no chance of winning the top 3 are in a different class and seem like nice people. I have seen him play quite a few times and a good half of the crowd are against him. Would never happen if a French player was playing in the French open.

JollyGoodFun · 04/07/2012 22:02

No, but it would happen if a Belgian player was playing in the French Open.

Scotland and England are different countries!

highriggs · 04/07/2012 22:04

Which other tennis players would that be then. Please name the lots of them ?

highriggs · 04/07/2012 22:06

And also link to their comments

redlac · 04/07/2012 22:11

Top 3 are nice people? Is that a qualification to get into the top three?

redlac · 04/07/2012 22:17

Yes cos Andy Murray is the only tennis player to fake injuries (djokovic), bad attitude (nadal)!

And can't agree more with JollyGoodFuns last post

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 04/07/2012 22:22

I will grudgingly support Murray because he hails from the British Ilses but I don't like him one little bit. And as for that sour-puss of a Mother......

Who are these horrible people wanting Liverpool to lose? :) Off with their heads"!

WilsonFrickett · 04/07/2012 22:23

I don't think any top sportsmen or women are 'nice'. Dedicated, driven, passionate - you just don't get to be number 1,2,3 or even 4 in the world by having a cheery demeanour.

And Murray is actually very nice when he's with fans, children etc when the cameras aren't there.

rollmeover · 04/07/2012 22:30

Ahhhhh, when will people get it?? Andy murrays ABE relates to football, a game where england and scotland are rivals amd in direct competition, so clearly its ok not to make want your closest rivals (in geographical terms if not ability) to loose?
When andy murray plays tennis he plays for Britain and is clearly very proud to be British, (but he can also be Scottish too).
Just cause hes a bit dour off the court doesnt take away from hus outstanding ability and achievements either.

dementedma · 04/07/2012 22:51

meh.

CurrySpice · 04/07/2012 22:54

Thanks for the explanation about the union PrettyCherryTrees

You realise you could transpose the words England and Scotland in your post and it would apply to how most English people feel.

BorisTheBold · 04/07/2012 23:00

When has England ever been repressed Curry?

I always look forward to your anti Scottish comments...

CurrySpice · 04/07/2012 23:02

I haven't got any anti-Scottish comments boris. Why should I?

Ilovecoffeeandchocolate · 04/07/2012 23:06

As for people who have said he has a poor attitude these include Navratilova, David Lloyd, Tomas Haas, Virgina Wade etc

For links check Google.

His poor attitude and lack of killer instinct is why Ivan Lendl was brought on as his coach.

BorisTheBold · 04/07/2012 23:10

Apologies CurrySpice got you confused with another poster. But my question still stands Wink

CurrySpice · 04/07/2012 23:27

The Normans were pretty vicious. And the Romans weren't that keen on the English Wink

Ok so most of the Englands and Scotlands could be transposed.

My point was that most nationalities feel that way about their own country. That their culture and heritage is unique and special. Not just the scots. Most English people I know do. As do most Dutch people. And Americans etc etc etc
