We live in a semi but a semi that backs onto another house, so our entire back wall is another house's entire back wall IYSWIM. So upstairs we share a wall on our bedroom, the landing and our bathroom.

The only noise I ever hear from their house is that noise of a pull switch light cord. And the only time I ever hear it is just after I go to the bathroom at night before I go to bed. Whatever the time. I never hear it before or after. Without fail it is just after I leave the bathroom. I go to bed at very random times (DH works away...). it could be 8pm, it could be 1am. Whatever time it is, I always hear that cord go within 20 seconds of me leaving the bathroom...

Uuummmmmm AIBU to think I might be being spied on..??!!! How do I find out for sure?!!

Gah the Neighbours killed them all plumber included in fact the plumber set him to it by quoting him a new boiler.

The neighbour has diverted some of the water supply to themselves from you, so that you've been supplying them too?

The neighbours are aliens who use 50 gazillion gallons of water per day. They need the water for their home planet, which has been hit by a drought. They can influence the Earth's weather patterns to make it rain more, hence the rubbish weather. The click noise is actually a transporter beaming the water back to their home planet. They do it after Gnocci has flushed the toilet because they need to do it ehile her cistern fills.

They will have eaten the plumber though - sorry about that.

Ok. So the neighbour wasn't in BUT he was concerned about the partition in the loft and was confused at the water supply to our bathroom. He stop cocked the rest of the house but couldn't isolate the bathroom. He thought we "might be getting it for free from next door"! Un-bloody-likely with our water bills!!!

Anyway I enquired more about the partition and he said that the loft appears "partially converted" and fire cladding (?!) Has recently been put on the joining walls. He was worried about adjoining pipes...

So he is the letting agent's plumber and is going to be speaking to them tomorrow!!

Not sure what to think!!

Plumber cant really deal directly with us as he is the letting agent's plumber and can only work on landlord's authority. I will chase up letting agent tomorrow to see what this is all about.

Did the plumber lick his lips a lot when he came back? If he did, it was probably oone of the water stealing aliens in disguise. Sorry about that. But don't worry David Tennant will be along shortly (not Matt thing, he's not a patch on DT)

Have you mentioned the noise to the plumber? Might be a good idea.

FWIW my neighbour used to listen to me and my ex arguing, with a glass up to the wall. How do I know this? Because he told us that's what he did, as if it was a perfectly normal thing to do

Also I heard a story somewhere (was it on mumsnet? I think it might have been) about someone who moved into a rented flat. The day after the man from the adjoining flat came round and asked them if they could please keep the heating on all the time, and use the radiators to turn it on and off rather than the boiler as it supplied both flats and he couldn't get to it. They were to split the bill.

Not quite the same thing, but if the houses used to be one, I wouldn't be surprised if there was some dodgy stuff happening in the conversion.

Maybe they have no hot water in their bathroom unless you use yours and they run in to use it when you do?!! >
