to think our neighbour is spying on me through a wall?

We live in a semi but a semi that backs onto another house, so our entire back wall is another house's entire back wall IYSWIM. So upstairs we share a wall on our bedroom, the landing and our bathroom.

The only noise I ever hear from their house is that noise of a pull switch light cord. And the only time I ever hear it is just after I go to the bathroom at night before I go to bed. Whatever the time. I never hear it before or after. Without fail it is just after I leave the bathroom. I go to bed at very random times (DH works away...). it could be 8pm, it could be 1am. Whatever time it is, I always hear that cord go within 20 seconds of me leaving the bathroom...

Uuummmmmm AIBU to think I might be being spied on..??!!! How do I find out for sure?!!

Babylon1 · 08/07/2012 22:17

Grin @ stateofconfusion

Gnocci, do you know what you've started????? Grin

StateofConfusion · 08/07/2012 22:51

babylon I had to ask dp if he'd been in our loft since we moved here, he looked at me like I was crazy. --and there is no way I've scanned both bathrooms for holes at all--

MushroomSoup · 08/07/2012 23:08

I've just found this thread and read it right through - someone just flushed the loo upstairs and I fucking shit myself jumped!
(By the way there are 4 DCs and my DH asleep upstairs so I have no reason to be shocked by this.)

Jux · 08/07/2012 23:31

It really does sound as if they are being awoken by your late night ablutions and having a quick pee themselves. Can you hear their flush? Of course they may be the sort of dirty buggers who don't flush at night.....

My real vote goes to the Borrowers though, and was about to post it a few days ago, but Sposh beat me to it by about half an hour (grrrr) Wink

gnocci · 08/07/2012 23:37

Don't know why anyone has been deleted! I certainly haven't reported any posts!!!

Well nothing to report as we've been away all weekend.

Dh convinced it is their light just as I thought. I think if it happens again tonight he is going to be totally freaked out!

pumpkinsweetie · 08/07/2012 23:38

When I was little the neighbour's children used to come round to our house and play. Their mother, oddly, used to peep through the eye-level letter box to peer straight into our kitchen before knocking. My father often found himself under surveillance whilst having dinner.

She did stop though. I overheard my mother mildly complaining, so to be helpful on a piece of card on the inner side of the the door I stuck a pair of extremely piercing eyes.

UserNameNotAvailable · 09/07/2012 00:08

Been following this thread and luckily I can't be spied on in the bathroom by next door neighbour but I used to always think to myself am I bing spied on in my bedroom? I very much doubt it and never had that being watched feeling just my own paranoia.

However, years ago when I lived at home with my mam the creep opposite (who was friends with my dad) mentioned one day that he had listening gear, my dad thought nothing of it as creepy neighbour was a billy liar and a bit of fantasist until ages after when creepy neighbour said something that you could only know if you had been in our house or were listening with the device!

Shock that is very creepy.
I can't wait to hear if the OP's Dh hears it again tonight

Quick update - will update properly later - plumber is currently round doing something (shower temp guage packed up so fitting a new one) and has been up in the loft to try and isolate cold water supply. He's just stuck his head in and said he needs to go and see the person who lives in the adjoining house about something........ he's now gone to see if anyone is in!!!! Confused !!

Will report back when I know more....

Update asap!

FuckerSnailInYourHedgerow · 11/07/2012 16:30

marking my place and hoping for something very explainable and not at all sinister and Dr Who-ish. Wouldn't it be funny if the plumber never came back:O

bringbacksideburns · 11/07/2012 17:00

Your bills haven't gone up have they? Wonder if they've been tampering with something rather than spying for your sake!

Socknickingpixie · 11/07/2012 17:01

go drag the fecking plumber back and demand to know what

ASillyPhaseIAmGoingThrough · 11/07/2012 17:35

I hope you get an explaination now from the plumber.
