to think our neighbour is spying on me through a wall?

We live in a semi but a semi that backs onto another house, so our entire back wall is another house's entire back wall IYSWIM. So upstairs we share a wall on our bedroom, the landing and our bathroom.

The only noise I ever hear from their house is that noise of a pull switch light cord. And the only time I ever hear it is just after I go to the bathroom at night before I go to bed. Whatever the time. I never hear it before or after. Without fail it is just after I leave the bathroom. I go to bed at very random times (DH works away...). it could be 8pm, it could be 1am. Whatever time it is, I always hear that cord go within 20 seconds of me leaving the bathroom...

Uuummmmmm AIBU to think I might be being spied on..??!!! How do I find out for sure?!!

Heh, I said at the beginning I'd just live with it Wink
But, really, building at night isn't on. You are entitled. I was thinking more along the lines of DH going, not little ol' you!

garlicbutt · 04/07/2012 22:21

... might be best he takes a jam sandwich with him, just in case ...

pumpkinsweetie · 04/07/2012 22:22

Maybe you could wear a stab-proof vest and take a penknife with you for protection

TheSpokenNerd · 04/07/2012 22:28

This is not good enough Gnocci. We want MORE satisfaction.

We need you to go for a wee....and then pause...and look all around the room...then bend out of sight and say "I see you peeper!"

If yu hear a scuffle or a gasp then you'll know.

garlicbutt · 04/07/2012 22:35

You will be so pissed off when the occupant turns out to be a single mum.

Probably just as well you won't go round there then, it'd make your bedtimes so much more boring if you knew!!

... Forget I said that Grin It's definitely a family of hungry poltergeists with weak bladders and a webcam.

icapturethecastle · 04/07/2012 22:41

thespokennerd that did make laugh

frustratedpants · 04/07/2012 23:03

gnocci · 04/07/2012 23:19

Just had a break,- delighted this is still a mystery!
If no-one's living in your loft, and it sounds lovely, you could easily set up some kind of covert operation of your own. Just a few wires and a tiny little hole...

What does your dh say about all of this? Coincidence and Paranoia? Or does he agree that it's too weird?

futureunknown · 05/07/2012 02:04

What happened gnocci?

Babylon1 · 05/07/2012 08:49

So it was a poltyguist then? Oh gnocci where are you??????

Grin
gnocci · 05/07/2012 12:04

Love how interest has dropped to one person haha.

Well DH went round (after hearing the light cord himself)! Found the house and complained about the drilling. They apologised. He chickened out of asking to use the bathroom.......!!

Anyway he said it was a man, early 60s... Said he seemed "alright" Hmm

perceptionreality · 05/07/2012 12:09

Thing is, even if you went in their bathroom you would not easily be able to find spying devices would you? As they would likely be hidden?

rufus5 · 05/07/2012 13:17

What I want to know is whether the guy looked like he recognised your DH when he called round???? Maybe not with his trouser on I suppose...

rufus5 · 05/07/2012 13:28
  • trousers
Migsy1 · 05/07/2012 14:43

So it is a dirty old man?

laurenamium · 05/07/2012 14:57

Ohhhh it's a man!!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 05/07/2012 15:03

Why don't you drill a small hole and spy on him ? That way you can see if he is spying on you...

Babylon1 · 05/07/2012 16:25

Ooooh gnocci, so what next then??

I guess DH doesn't think you're being paranoid and over-anxious either then??

How long is DH home for?? Will he have more opportunity to check things out??

What about the room in the loft?? Certainly warrants further investigation surely???? Grin

Flyingwithoutwings · 06/07/2012 02:20

Did DH offer a jam sandwich? Wink

futureunknown · 06/07/2012 03:32

There are still a few of us intrigued gnocci. What does DH make of the 20 second switch, does the same thing happen to him? If it is something to do with your plumbing or electrics it will do the same to him as you.

More research is needed!

thatisall · 06/07/2012 06:47

oooooh OP not that I'm one to gossip Hmm but there was a cue near me a couple of years ago where a very respectable man in his late 50s, was arrested for spying on his neighbour. He had installed a camera in her bathroom whilst he was visiting or something :-S Not sure whether I'll get told off for putting too much info on here, but those who look respectable, aren't always what they seem!!

That said, I'm sure your neighbour is watching you poo a weirdo. I;m sure its a coincidence or perhaps the noise isn't a pull cord, perhaps its a sound coming from the pipes after the toilet has been flushed??

thatisall · 06/07/2012 06:48

case not cue

and isn't a weirdo, not is....damn you Apple!!
