To have not shown my boss any sympathy about her dying dog?

I know. Sounds like a thread designed to cause a ruck, doesn't it? Hmm

Basically, it's this. My boss is a heartless, immature cow. She is , still lives with her parents and has no clue how the real world works. She is a massive hypochondriac, I mean seriously, she is ill EVERY time I go into work. She always has to leave early/go on extended lunch breaks for some reason. She is a frigging nightmare.

In January, I had to take time off to look after DS when he has chickenpox. Not much time, a few days, but she didn't like it. Then in February her dog died. She had three days off and I left her a card saying that I was thinking of her. Then in March I had to take another day off because I was ill. She was vile about it.

Now her other dog is dying. At work on friday, she kept saying that everytime she thought about her sick dog, she felt ill. Her entire family were taking the dog to the vets the next morning and she took the morning off to go with them. I think it's pathetic that she gets this upset over a dog yet has no empathy for sick children. I didn't show her any sympathy at all. I felt like chinning her tbh.

Maybe you're better off ignoring all the drama. If I am emotionally a bit wobbly, I prefer to be distracted and just get on with things.

BupcakesandCunting · 26/06/2012 12:03

People on the moral high ground have no satisfaction. Especially when you're dealing with people like I am. She would think "Oh Buppy is the better woman here" she's probably thinking "She's gone quiet because she is sad FOR ME" She is THAT self-absorbed.

She doesn't take annual leave either to re-enact Marley and Me. She just goes home/doesn't log her time off. Area manager is none the wiser.

I have nothing against dogs but cant cope with people who prefer them to children. There are a few in this office and my boss is one hence she gets no sympathy from me when he poor pooch is unwell etc etc . I get no sympathy from her and was even asked to come into work when my son was ill last week! GRRRRR

KellyElly · 26/06/2012 13:03

Hullygully very true but sometimes it saves you from getting all bitter and twisted and letting how someone else acts impact on your life/thoughts and drag you down.

BupcakesandCunting · 26/06/2012 13:12

Nah it makes you more bitter and twisted being a turn the other cheek martyr, I reckon. Act the cunt. That's my advice.

Is she missing the attention from you? I think disinterested "aawws" are the best response. Also, maybe ask her how her dog is and get his name wrong?

If she is taking time off without logging it who monitors her holidays/sick days? Doesn't she have a boss?

AllFallDown · 26/06/2012 13:19

Dog lovers never comprehend that the rest of us just couldn't give a toss. You could subsitute any word for dog and it would make no difference to the sentence.
"I need to take my dog toaster for a walk."
"My dog television died last night."
Yeah. Evs.

I am a doglover and having to have my dog pts was the hardest decision I've ever had to make. And we're talking guide dog who changed my life and helped towards me gaining my independence here. But three days off work for a dead dog is obscene. It's a dog. When you buy a puppy you know that more likely than not it is going to die, and that yes it is upsetting when it does, but that's how it goes.

BonnieBumble · 26/06/2012 13:31

My friend has a colleague who took compassionate leave when Michael Jackson died. Apparently when she phoned in she was sobbing down the phone,

KellyElly · 26/06/2012 13:36

BupcakesandCunting you don't have to be a martyr and turn the other cheek you just have to think what a twat and ignore it. At least that's what I do with my boss. It's just work at the end of the day. I can't be arsed spending my time thinking about how unreasonable my boss is, I've got so much other stress going on in my life that would tip me over the edge :)

Or show her sympathy as she's your boss and being nice will make your life easier in the long run? Having argies with a boss is ne'er a good plan really.
