YABU.

If your baby's skin is SO sensitive that it pee nappies need to be changed immediately, cover her bum up in nappy rash cream before you get on public transportation.

Or buy better nappies.

dangerousliaison · 24/06/2012 20:08

a) because the uncomfortable baby cries, b) because must haves and all that, and c) the uncomfortable baby cries.

dangerousliaison · 24/06/2012 20:11

my dd had pretty mild exzema, it had nothing to do with the nappies and also barrier cream didnt make masses of diference, the exzema was mild but her skin would break down pretty quick even with cream.

CoteDAzur · 24/06/2012 20:11

a) buy better nappies
b) buy better nappies
c) buy better nappies

If she wet the nappy on the bus - it doesn't need to be changed immediately, does it? Do you wake her on the hour through the night to be sure she hasn't wet her nappy? It'll be hours before she's at risk of nappy rash, have some consideration for the other passengers and wait.

amieis · 24/06/2012 20:21

sorry sc I did mean you... Scrolling on a phone makes reading names difficult :( thankyou for the information and the link

i would have changed her in your situation. I know they stink when you get their bum out but its gonna stink any way. tie the bag up tight, discreetly spray perfume. oh and ask 1st of only a few on bus or just move to a free space so as not to upset others

amieis · 24/06/2012 20:27

flogginmolly she wakes us up to have her nappy changed when she's wet at night and I did wait until I got home. Although the mother of the other children cat bum mouthed me for the rest of the journey cuz dd was screaming ad I didn't do anything

How does a baby stink when they've just done a wee?! Maybe first thing in the morning when their nappy is full of wee but the rest of the time it certainly wouldn't stink out a bus!

osterleymama · 24/06/2012 20:58

Baby's comfort is more important than the comfort of other adults on the bus IMO. If a Mother did this around me I'd assume the child was uncomfortable/would get nappy rash and probably offer to hold her bag for her or help in some other way.

A lovely no-nonsense stranger once helped me change a 2 month old DS in a discrete corner on a train when he did an explosive unexpected poo and the one toilet was occupied for what felt like forever. I was fretting about uselessly, he was screeching and she just calmly took charge.

seeker · 24/06/2012 21:05

They don't 'stink when you get their bums out" (eewww, by the way) if they've only peed.

I can't honestly understand what the objection could possibly be- it's not (please tell me it's not) a paedosteria thing, is it?If you are happy to spend generation after generation living in the same town or suburb (and lots of people are), there isn't going to be the same need to explore, benchmark, ponder etc.

seeker · 24/06/2012 21:07

No idea where the last half of my last post came from please ignore everything after "is it?"

VikingVagine · 24/06/2012 21:21

YANBU

bignutbrownhair · 24/06/2012 21:21

If you are using modern nappies, why on earth would you need to change it just because a baby has done a wee? Do people really do this?

Christ, between the people on here who do several machine washes a day, change their sheets every day, have 2 showers a day every day, and now change their kid's nappy straight away because there is a bit of piss in there - no wonder this planet is deteriorating so fast.

holyfishnets · 24/06/2012 21:21

A wee nappy doesn't need to be changed immediately, it can wait. A poo nappy could only be changed if the bus was empty.

holyfishnets · 24/06/2012 21:25

I wonder if she has something wrong with her, being so out of sorts with only wee in her nappy. Very odd.

ceeveebee · 24/06/2012 21:30

I would never think to change a nappy just because it's wet. Disposable nappies can be worn for up to 12 hours without changing. If she's sensitive then put sudacrem on. I put this on for last nappy of the night and then don't change until next morning 12/13 hours later (obviously would change if dirty but it's never happened yet in 7 months!)

dangerousliaison · 24/06/2012 21:37

Disposable nappies can be worn for up to 12 hours without changing Shock

DoMeDon · 24/06/2012 21:38

In your situation I would have changed her - as for some of the comments - uncouth etc - daft, just daft.

dangerousliaison · 24/06/2012 21:40

if you are talking 12 hours at night that is 12 hours of no waking, drinking or feeding, but seriously do 4 month all babies really do that? mine never did.

DilysPrice · 24/06/2012 21:42

Immense Shock and sympathy for those with babies so sensitive that you have to change after every pee (even at night Shock) I can only imagine what a (literal) PITA that must be.

BlackOutTheSun · 24/06/2012 21:43

ffs the op has said that her dd becomes upset if not changed.

Also I'm guessing that the posters who said that they wouldn't have changed the nappy have never dealt with nappy rash so bad it bleeds.

Oh, and its not always the case of buying better nappies. I can only use 1 brand on dd.

ceeveebee · 24/06/2012 21:44

At 3 months my twins would have a big ff at 11pm and sleep till 7am in same nappy.

ceeveebee · 24/06/2012 21:45

OP also says no nappy rash

bogeyface · 24/06/2012 21:45

YANBU. A wet one can be whipped off and a clean one on before anyone has noticed.

A smelly one is difficult. DD will get appalling nappy rash if not changed straight away with a pooey one, she will bleed, its just horrible. but her nappies are RANK! That said, I suppose it will still stink on or off and atleast no one else would have to put up with her screams!
