When we are still 30 mins from home and she's whingey?

I just change them every couple of hours (immediately if there is a poo though, else it goes EVERYWHERE), or just when the nappy feels quite 'fat'. DS (6m) is grim though, he's got a bum of steel and would happily sit in his own filth for hours if I didn't notice.

DottyandSpottyWot · 24/06/2012 19:33

I would change the nappy! just wet or with poo in it! especially if baby is upset.

AdventuresWithVoles · 24/06/2012 19:34

Wet only nappy wouldn't bother me at all.

amieis · 24/06/2012 19:34

Have seen 4 diff docs on 9 separate occasions, been given a variety of medicines and creams and she still does it jamie Confused
And my email to the guiness book of records is on its way :)

Just change it. Its not a poo so won't stink out the bus. No big deal for others on the bus.

TidyDancer · 24/06/2012 19:35

I wouldn't do it, even with a wet nappy. I'd get off the bus if my baby couldn't wait. I can imagine if it was the only bus and if it was a really long journey that my answer might be different, but it sounds like the OP only had 10 minutes left of her bus journey, so she did the right thing.

usualsuspect · 24/06/2012 19:38

I would change a wet nappy, yes

tryingtonotfeckup · 24/06/2012 19:40

If she is going to cry to 30 mins, change it, I'd prefer a discreet glance of baby bottom to crying.

Anyone remember the thread about someone changing a pooey nappy on a train seat a little while back. Most people seemed to think she WNBU.

ViniVidiVisa · 24/06/2012 19:44

Um, I've been in the position of having a baby with nappy rash and a dirty nappy and being 30min from home with no further fare. Sorry but I chose ds' bum not bleeding/ pain every time.

yellowraincoat · 24/06/2012 19:45

If she's going to cry, I agree, change it.

sc2987 · 24/06/2012 19:45

YANBU. Have you tried Elimination Communication? If there's no medical cause she probably just doesn't like having to wet herself (who would?).

amieis · 24/06/2012 19:46

No-one got a flash of baby bum... Waited til we got home, changed her nappy and her soggy clothes and now she is calm again and contently lying on her playmat. Thankyou for the input everyone

IT is really horrible the smell of dirty nappy unless the baby was screaming then i wouldn't not nice for other passengers, if the baby is really upset go to the back of the bus if its empty and change there

youarekidding · 24/06/2012 19:50

I would change it because the situation your in requires it - eg your baby is upset and crying.

If baby wasn't upset, didn't have nappy rash and wasn't at risk of leakage I wouldn't worry.

I think it's one of those many situations that needs to be judged on it's merits.

amieis · 24/06/2012 19:50

Whats that yellow?

OP posts:
scuzy · 24/06/2012 19:53

I have to laugh at the replies that asked "why didnt you change her before going on the bus?"

have you NEVER changed a baby only to have them wet or soil themselves straight away!!!

and i dont think you are being unreasonable if the bus was that quite and you can change her quickly on your knee. however i would wait til i got home if it was a dirty one.

i could never master the changing on knee thing. was jealous of those that could.

Mrsjay · 24/06/2012 19:53

oh your home and changed Smile

sc2987 · 24/06/2012 19:59

Did you mean yellow or me?

Elimination Communication (EC) is when you offer them the potty when they need to go instead of relying on nappies (although many families still use them as backup/in case). My daughter's been EC'd since birth.

There's a support group on Facebook if you are interested: www.facebook.com/groups/18129126922/

AdventuresWithVoles · 24/06/2012 19:59

Baby's dirty nappy will stink the bus out whether it gets removed & replaced or not.
I have a feeling I once changed a dirty nappy on a train floor on a long journey, couldn't safely do it in the toilets.

seeker · 24/06/2012 20:03

These people who change a nappy the minute it gets wet a) how on earth can you tell and b) how can you afford all the nappies? Oh, and c) what do you do at night?

No i wouldn't.

EugenesAxe · 24/06/2012 20:07

I did that on a train once but when I peeled it down saw it was a pooey one! Gross! I apologised to people around about.

I'm a bit on the fence; it wouldn't bother me if I was a passenger.
