to be amazed at people going to church

I really didn't think anyone still did the whole church on Sunday thing (this is not meant rudely, am just genuinely amazed).

Why do you go?

Don't you go out dancing and drinking on Sat and have a terrible hangover?

Or don't you want to have a lie-in with the papers?

Do you have roast dinner after?

Where do you live?

eg make something out of nothing (which is incidentally what evolutionists believe too)

No no, that's not what 'evolutionists' believe (they believe in molecules+energy+time, lots and lots of time, essentially). That's what physicists such as Stephen Hawking believe Grin.

IMO the more one researches evolution the more faith it takes to believe that theory
That doesn't seem to be the conclusion reached by people who actually research evolution as opposed to reading stuff which may or may not be misinformation online. People who research it don't 'believe' it.

Ode - you and I have similar experiences of God working in our lives, and similar passion for our faith, in seeing it as utterly life changing.

We don't have the same view on origins/the bible being completely literal. But that's OK. I'm guessing we believe the same most central stuff :)

Grimma, yes, for sure, many 'gods' have been made in man's image, thus are a mix of good/bad. Only one God has made us in her image. God is only good, but there is always a mirror of an image. :)

It's got quite deep after starting out wondering if we had roast potatoes and yorkies after the service hasn't it ? (speaking as a veggie) All good though Smile

madhairday · 26/06/2012 16:28

Grin yes juggling it does seem to have! Always the way. At least it's not gone into faith schools

shouldn't have said that

After all, God himself didn't do all of the writing/translating, so I hardly expect perfection!

No, you need the Q'uran for that don't you - wasn't it dictated directly to Mohammed and you're meant to learn the original not translations.

Or the Book of Mormon, straight from the angel's silver plates.

Why do you doubt the Qur'an but believe The Bible. having read both, the Qur'an is much more credible IMO

I get the concept of believing in god/ heaven/Jesus. I just don't get why people don't grow out of it at about the same time they grow out of believing in Father Christmas.

smokeandglitter · 27/06/2012 20:22

Hahaha. Is this a joke?

I go because I like to learn more about God, and a lovely bonus is I have friends there to spend time with after the service. It's a great meeting point if you know you're all going to be in the same place at the same time each week.

I can no longer go clubbing because of disability but if I go drinking I can still get up to pop out for an hour.

A lie-in until 9am (service at 10am) is a lie-in.

When me and DP move in we'll probably have a Roast after, but that's more tradition and not needed it's just my mum did it every sunday and DP loves my roasts.

I live in South London.

Oh, but of course where I went to secondary school everyone dd what's known as the 'Luffa Shuffle' and had to go to church to get DCs in. I don't know why, I thought it was a rubbish school especially pastorally but that's an opinion and really for a different day. Ahem. Grin

JugglingWithTangentialOranges · 27/06/2012 22:17

Why the "Luffa Shuffle" smokeandglitter

< curious, slightly drunk, and slow on the uptake Smile >

smokeandglitter · 28/06/2012 11:55

Ah, yes, sorry. Wink

'Tis the Luffa Shuffle because the school is called Bishop Luffa and everybody who couldn't get their children into private school (shuffles) moves house to get closer to the catchment area, especially now there is no rule about being prioritised if you have a sibling there. Some people rent a flat inside the catchment and give that as their address so they don't actually have to move. It's quite amusing really. Except for the children who live so far away in reality they get up at 5:30am to gt ready andd be there for 7:45am
Haha. Can you tell I didn't enjoy my time there. Grin
