I have a great sex life, but I still found the books interesting! The only bit that annoyed me was the "his jeans hung off his hips in that way" thing! The rest of it isn't exactly Booker Prize material, but it's no worse than any other piece of erotica. and MUCH better than fucking Twilight!

MAYBELATERNOWIMBUSY · 04/07/2012 00:14

download the original "story of o "

Dprince · 04/07/2012 06:39

The book is shit. As shit as twilight, in fact its practically the same book as twilight. The characters are the same, situations are the same (she can't touch him, he saves her from getting run over, he tells her 'stay away, I'm dangerous them continues to stalk her)
The only difference is that instead of wanting to drink her blood he wants to spank her. I was left hoping he did gag her just so she would stfu. And he is a badly written character and a dick.
Won't read the others.

Dprince · 04/07/2012 07:15

And as bdsm erotic novels go, its not even that erotic nor very bdsm-ish.
Its rather vanilla. Well that's what my inner goddess thinks, anyway.

paradisechick · 04/07/2012 07:32

Oh god that 'way they hang of his hips'

The constant reference to her inner goddess and subconscious and what they are doing or saying.

The holy crap. The holy Moses. Who says that?

The business speak from Christian when she hears him at work.

The lip biting. Always the fucking lip biting.

Makes me want to poke my eyes out.

valiumredhead · 04/07/2012 08:24

I think ana is more empowered than people realise

I think it's a bit sad that Ana is empowered in any way, shape or form tbh.

clarerachel · 04/07/2012 12:03

I read it. I loved it. it's only a book, everyone gets different things from it. She negotiates all the way in book 1, and he likes it like that. A whole new reading experience. Well written ( not excellent) . The author knows what women want. sexy tough demanding damaged vulnerable sad funny happy jokey thoughtful admiring pilot.

valiumredhead · 04/07/2012 12:04

Well written?

Is this the first book you have ever read clare? Grin

Alurkatsoftplay · 04/07/2012 12:18

"A whole new reading experience" Clarerachel?

This sort of thing has been around since I was knee high to a grass-hopper

I wouldn't mind a thoughtful admiring 'pilot', but I don't think that was in this book.

valiumredhead · 04/07/2012 12:30

Yeah, nothing new about it at all.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/07/2012 16:07

read all 3 - soft porn though enjoyable and oh did well out of it Grin

tbh mr g isnt a nice bloke and a bit of arse

but i got the books before all the major hype, so 3 for £9 from amazon and now seem to be sold out

worth a read, if nothing else does kinda have a story

MrsReiver · 04/07/2012 16:22

I am six weeks pregnant and really not looking forward to people asking if it's the fifty shades of shite effect.

Fortunately the people who matter know it's a "two years of ttc" baby.

valiumredhead · 04/07/2012 16:24

People would never say that in RL would they? Shock

MrsReiver · 04/07/2012 16:26

Oh the mums at our school gate definitely would! Loons each and every one.

valiumredhead · 04/07/2012 16:26

God almighty, you will have to move Grin

MrsReiver · 04/07/2012 16:28

It's being given serious consideration.

I shall spend the next 6 weeks making my opinion of the books well known so when it becomes apparent that I am with child, they won't dare mention it.

HeadfirstForHalos · 04/07/2012 16:32

I'm reading the first one, I'm about a third of the way through and ready to scream every time she says, oh my, holy crap, holy Moses (?!), oh crap, and when she mentions her inner Goddess or her "apex" Hmm

Though I did laugh to myself when I saw an elderly lady at our local coffee morning sitting reading 50 shades freed with her coffee Grin

Porno lit has become publicly acceptable!

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/07/2012 17:26

have said it before on another thread but considering ana is a virgin she is very happy to try anything and a darn sight more then blondes would !!!!

i actually like vanilla Grin

thebody · 04/07/2012 17:52

Really funny shite, barbera Cartland with cock and orgasm.

Well written!!!! Ha ha ha ha

febel · 13/07/2012 11:06

Well, I am SO glad I found this thread! I have stuck the book out, with difficulty at times, and I too thought...Twilight! (which, sorry, I prefer..mainly for the werewolf/vampire contnet cos Edward is way too GAP for me!) I did manage to get into the book after I was about two thirds through it, but merely cos of the tantalising glimpses into Christian (did she choose this name ironically?!) and his previous life. I find the fact he is so controlling, stalks her, bothers her all the time, wants to control her life very disturbing...and I have been there believe me. May be ok for a while, even flattering, but after a bit it gets too much and you want your life back...I certainly did and I got out. Hacked me off no end when you were somewhere and HE turned up...
The way the book is written ANNOYS the hell out of me...very BAD MIlls andBoon to me...can't stand it.

All I can presume is the fans of this book don't read much. There are plenty of better books than this, in a similar genre and if you want the titillation, many better books, and they don't have to be "porn" these days..god I've read thriller and detective books with better porn type scenes in.
Having said that, I'm still tempted to read book two/three, just to see if there is an actual story and how it develops. Why is Christian the way he is and what happens? mind you...if you want to send me a summary of the books and spoiler alerts I won't bother to actually read them!

Milliesmummy12 · 30/08/2012 22:51

I love the book think its a great love story, can't beileve u all hate it?? Totally shocked. Christian grey is my dream man!! ;-))

thebeesnees79 · 31/08/2012 08:08

I have read the trilogy. and yes its poorly written and largely irritating but very compelling. I think the first book is better than the second which is so repetitive!
Its really immature the way its wrote and some of the phrases will really grate on you after a while but its still worth a read imo.

I'm reading it (nearly finished the first book) because I'm nosy and wanted to see what all the hype was about. I think it's an easy read that requires no brain cells to take in and understand, but I just can't shake the indignant feeling I get when I read about him telling her what to do.

I don't think I'd make a very good sub. I'm too stubborn!
