I have to admit I found it quite entertaining.

I too would love to here SGB recommendations.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 15/06/2012 21:58

So bad. So so bad. I only bought it as it was top of the Amazon best sellers list and wish i'd read the reviews first. It's terrible.

Chubfuddler · 15/06/2012 22:00

Doesn't she bite her lip a lot because Kirsten Stewart is constantly biting her lip in twilight?

Note I have not read 50 shades of grey.

bronze · 15/06/2012 22:04

Well the authors not going to give a shit whether people like it when they all have to buy it first to find out

takingiteasy · 15/06/2012 22:05

I do bite my lip in sexual moments!

MizK · 15/06/2012 22:05

Lots of people on Facebook are burbling about this and staying up all night reading it. Have avoided the whole Twilight thing, but am starting to be tempted into reading this, mainly because it spawned the pukey term 'mommy porn'.... Must. Stay. Strong.....

aawcmon · 15/06/2012 22:06

I downloaded for the exact same reason, to see what all the fuss was about. I swear, the writing was some of the worst i've ever come across, and the author's overuse of the phrase 'my inner goddess' (sometimes 3 times per page) made my skin crawl.

fedupofnamechanging · 15/06/2012 22:09

Amazon do 'Fifty Shades of Beige', 'Filthy Shames of Lame' and for MNers 'Fifty Shades of Grey and Zombies'!

Chubfuddler · 15/06/2012 22:11

I don't think I could cope with burblings about inner goddess and biting lips. Make stephenie Meyer sound like Proust. I will retire to my DVD of twilight and the moment you first see Edward Cullen. I know he's manipulative, egocentric and deeply unpleasant but he is hot.

PeggyBabcockBoot · 15/06/2012 22:19

The writing is poor but it definitely improved my sex life for a few days. My dh didnt know what had hit him!

Chubfuddler · 15/06/2012 22:20

Improved sex life, you say?

MaeMobley · 15/06/2012 22:22

I'll read rubbish if it improves my sex life .

KPT083 · 15/06/2012 22:28

If you want something a little tastier than 50 shades of grey, try Anne Rice Writing as A.N. Roquelaure....

FoxSake · 15/06/2012 22:30

Utter utter shit,I put it on my kindle, have read 1 chapter and the writing is bad it's making me cringe. I knocked out better essays in school. I'm going to skip to the smut and see if that makes the purchase worthwhile.

solidgoldbrass · 15/06/2012 22:33

Have a look on here. My recommendation would be any of the anthologies that appeal to you; anthologies are always the best way to start with erotic fiction as everyone's tastes vary. I would also solidly recommend anything by Elizabeth Coldwell, not just because I know her...

defineme · 15/06/2012 22:35

I think the reason a lot of women like this is because for them it's like an entertaining ott sexy daydream.

The reason it's more popular than more well written stuff is because it was introduced through Twilight which was incredibly popular.

I also don't think a lot of people care about a book's literary merit and care about character/plot that will get them in the mood(especially if they're willing to suspend their disbelief)far more than carefully crafted words.Surely there's room for both Mummyporn and Booker prize winners on a bookshelf-I have both.

I think it's far healthier to read this fluff than all that 'my tragic story of abuse' that has its own section in the supermarket-how is that entertaining?

takingiteasy · 15/06/2012 22:37

2nd chapter... Still shit.

Someone on another thread about the book linked to a blog that rips the piss out of the crapness of the writing.

cupofteaplease · 15/06/2012 22:38

Well I enjoyed the triolgy! I've read all three books this week and I have to say, they weren't half as bad as they've been made out to be here! They put me in a good mood in the bedroom too Wink

cupoftea realises this is far TMI and slinks away from the thread discretely...

takingiteasy · 15/06/2012 22:41

I'm no literary extraordinaire. Far from it. Marian Keyes, Jodi Picoult, Stephen King and Sophie Kinsella are some of the more featured people on my bookshelves. This is way below any of that in terms of how well written it is.

What's it got to do with twilight? I'm even more embarrassed now!

PorkyandBess · 15/06/2012 22:44

Having read half of this semi-literate shite, I would say avoid, if you have half a brain.

lovebunny · 15/06/2012 22:44

daughter says she first read it as fan fiction, with twilight names which have now been changed.

squeakytoy · 15/06/2012 22:46

I read all three too and didnt think they were horrendously bad. They could have been a lot better, but it was ok. The storyline itself is reasonable and a better writer could have done a lot more with it.

I read the latest Lynwood Barclay book though this week, and was much happier to be back to a book that was a very very good read.

PeggyBabcockBoot · 15/06/2012 22:47

Yep. Pure erotica and nil story - hence its popularity. I love all this talk about the 'story', yeah right... that's what we are reading it for!!

bronze · 15/06/2012 22:49

The blog is here I haven't read the books but it still made me laugh

takingiteasy · 15/06/2012 22:52

I just read the bit about his tongue caressing her name and thought about him licking her name badge.
